The last time I was in Balaton was when I was 10 in 1994. It's pretty much the same but now it's a little bit more modern. We spent all my childhood summers there until we had to move back to Argentina. My Mother hated it because she loved Hungary and would speak to us in Hungarian all the time.

I have the recipe that was written by my Hungarian Grandmother and she added eggs to it and it was scrambled. I remember being at Balaton and eating this. But I can't find it anywhere with eggs. She did add sausage but when we were kids she made a non sausage one for us.

How do you cook it with more meat? I missed the instruction. Edit: I just cooked my 1st lecsó, and my parents both loved it. Thanks! We just found a new favorite!

my long lost "cuzzie bros" i found out i have one or two ethnic Hungarians in my family tree along with Polish, Germans, Slovakian. it's really fascinating to learn about you guys. my grandma was Audrey Janet Nathan (née Sands) of NZ. only a few generations before her were the Dovalosky/Dowaloskis who settled around Otago and Gore and still live there today, contributing to the local country music scene. that name comes up as from Somogy right? i hope i can come for a visit one day

Both of my parents were Hungarian refugees. I was born in the United States. I did visit Hungary as a child, Sopron, Kapuvar, Gyor and Budapest. I am not familiar with the Eastern countryside... But realize that this is a very beautiful region. My mother's ancestors - an old noble family ( Tisza Ujhelyi-Ujhelyi) was originally from Eastern Hungary - Tiszaujhely( from where they had gotten their name ) this town is now in Ukraine. The family also had estates in Zemplen county.

Did I see correctly? Train station of Berekfürdő? A VERY RUNDOWN station! I remember holidaying there with my mother and brother in the early fifties. it was a most basic spa with wonderful thermal water, smelling of sulphur. The old ladies used to wear underwear in the small pools, mother proper bathing costume. the whole set up was primitive, but fantasticly so. Every Saturday live music in the restaurant and dancing. Had my very first dance there with a boy from Budapest. Then, in 1991, out of pure curiosity I revisited Berekfürdő. Gone was the simplicity, the primitive old charm of the place, and gone was the live music. have lovely memories of the old Hungary, poor as we were, but young. Now, at 85, after having lived in the UK for more than half a century, I am back and I am very happy here.

a big, big difference between the east and west part of Hungary, the east being very poor compared to the west. I am surprised that there are actually people still living in such villages. if my memory serves me right, Kunmadaras was one of the many homes of the occupying soviet army. The restaurant is great and without trying to be too bigheaded, Hungarian doughnuts are absolutely sublime, light and fluffy, nothing like those heavy, cold British ones. my brother would easily polish off 10-12 at one go.

My opinion. Hungary is a safe country, from Budapest to Szeged to Eger to Kiskunfeleghaza everywhere I go I feel safe and feel my kids are safe. Europe is a mess and very dangerous largely due to Migrant ghettos and uncontrolled illegal immigration. I wish we had a leader like Orban in England. I go to Budapest as often as possible! I wouldn't take my kids to London or any other major city here. Hungarians are respectful and decent albeit a bit Moody. At the age of 44 I remember England when it was a good country with core values held by 99% of folk. Now it is a sess pitt and it breaks my heart. Im glad I met a Hungarian girl and potentialy have a way out for our kids. Peace to all x
