When you get a chance can you be a little more specific about getting rid of the emissions thing. While I have my motor out I will get rid of mine to. It’s a 1999 classic have an oil leak in the top backside running on top the pipes.figured it’s the rocker box

Does anyone know if turning the clutch basket clockwise a little bit will cause issues? It turned the other gears a little bit. I'm not sure if I messed up timing or anything like that

Great Video David. I loaned my son my bike (01 drifter vn1500fi) and he changed the oil as a favor too me but he overfilled it and I drove it not knowing. Now it stalls and I've drained and can't get it to stop stalling out and fouling. Any thoughts? Would it be the crankcase breather? How would I get to it to fix it? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I hope this comment finds you Dave. You video certainly took me down some other avenues on the Kawasaki motor. I was certain the HLA's were the noise problem but I'll also look at the other things you mentioned . Any links for timing chain adjustment extenders??? Thanks, Big Bill

back in the 60s when I was in high school, working summers evenings and weekends at the local service station/gas station. There were products in pretty much all the parts stores and some gas stations that you could add to your oil, those products claimed to reduce lifter noises in your engine whynns friction proofing, Bardol , and others made these claims One of my friends that went on to Marietta petroleum Institute after high school. When he came home for summer vacation after the first year. He told me about some of these additives. He said they are generally 90% kerosene. He also told me that STP is just raw petroleum. after it is taken out of the ground and refined. Before they put the additives packages in and polymers, and anti-foaming agents and zinc, phosphorus, for anti-shearing improvement to give it a better film strength. STP is just like buying Flower before you start making cakes and bread. Has nothing in it but flour... I also went to school with a classmate that went on to be a Volkswagen dealership mechanic for decades. Those old VW air, cooled boxer engines. that did not have Oil filters. And to top that off, that was before the wide usage of oil with detergent in it. So engines always got filled with sludge. I once saw a Chevy 327 Corvette engine with the valve covers off. They were off because the valve cover gaskets were leaking… when the mechanic pulled those valve covers, the sludge under those valve covers, looked like a block of Jell-O. It maintained its shape under that entire cover. Like somebody poured yellow into a mold, and just removed the Jell-O, by turning it upside down and allowing the Jell-O to stay on the plate. It was amazing. It was an almost perfect block of black sludge.. that was in the days before detergent. Oils were widely used as they are today… OK, so the trick back then to remove sludge buildup, was to pour a cup, or a quart of pure kerosene into your warm engine just before and oil change. And drive around for about five or 10 minutes easy. The kerosene acted like detergent. What do detergents do. They mix with dirt and water, and they keep the dirt suspended in the water when you wash clothes, so that the water can hold onto the dirt so it will go down the drain during the rinse cycle. well, that kerosene acted like detergent. It mixed with the sludge and the oil, and it kept the sludge suspended in the oil, so it would drain out with an oil change… I think I would attempt to put in a cup of kerosene into an already warm engine, and let that engine run for a while with no load, or just run it around for maybe five minutes around the block, and drain that oil out, and maybe even repeat that adding a cup of kerosene, to a fresh batch of inexpensive Motor oil maybe even car oil because you’re not gonna run it, you’re just using it to flush and clean the engine, mixed with kerosene.. then, drain that out, and let it drain overnight. Then put in fresh oil only, run it for a day or two, maybe 50 miles, and drain that to flush out whatever remaining kerosene may be in there. The key is to get it hot so that it will get the sludge, the gum, the varnish suspended in the oil. so it will drain out when you pull the plug. I believe I would try that before pulling the engine, if as they say in some of the videos here on KZbin, that you can service a collapsed hydraulic lifter that is plugged up with gum/varnish/ Sludge

Hey David! this is Mark great video! I have a 2002 kawasaki Vulcan classic 1500 and I was wondering if it's normal for the bike to clunk during shifting up or down I just got it a week ago and this is my first experience with something like that occurring, it's got under 24k on the clock. my previous bike was an old kawasaki kz400 from the late 70' and shifting gears was quiet and smooth. Please let me know what you think. Thank you.
