If anyone is willing to part with theirs because their children don't want it or no one left in their family enjoys aviation, I'll buy it. However, it must be completely built and has at least one test flight that took off without complications but also landed the same. I'm being silly, but I'm really interested in having my first plane be a delta. I would love it and cherish it beyond measure. Hangars are what stop me from having one. Since they fit into a garage, I figured it would be best to put my wife in my unheated garage and have my plane next to me in bed. 🤔

I can seriously convert this to RC format, and from there, it could be built full scale with much greater ease then how they went about this project.

I have no idea about aircraft design but to conceive of an experimental home built plane that can fly your family around the country is mind boggling. This is the same guy who put a propeller on the back of a bicycle!! He must have been a very unique individual.

A very inspiration story and a very inspirational plane. The main reason we don't see delta-wing planes in small and relatively low-speed aircraft is the very difficult recovery from stall/spin issues, relatively higher stall speeds, and the delta wing's low lift efficiency at low speeds resulting in longer take-offs and landings. This plane is very stable--until it isn't. There's little room for error and recovery from that error is fraught with knife-edge maneuvering windows with very "mushy" control authority. To use an analogy, it's the akin to the handling differences between a traditional front-engine rear-drive car and a mid-engined layout.

That pretty bird is too good a design to not be produced. With modern materials and precision production like CAD machines that are found in plenty of garages that graceful and beautifully logical little bird could be produced in under 500 hours...if you can weld.

Not sure if 500 is attainable but certainly fewer hours, agreed. It would be nice if someone could breath some life into this design.

Was the function of those wing stubs actually explained? He pointed them out, at 7:30, said the wings folded for storage, but didn't actually describe their function. I assume they had something to do with either the folding or towing, but what exactly? I re-watched the video about 15 times. What did I miss?
@aircraftadventures-vids23 сағат бұрын
Ouch, 15 times? I'm so sorry, you are right I did a piss poor job in making the connection between the stubs and folding wings - those are the hinges used to support the folding wing mechanism. I came to realize this only after getting some critiques after the video was published.

As a South African myself, it is thoroughly interesting to hear about our farmers wielding AK47s and demanding ransoms. I have quite a few farmers in my family and friends, stretching over every province except Limpopo, and I have never heard that story. Neither have I heard any stories of farmers demanding ransom ever. Sounds like an Australian embellishment on a sales page to me. Is it possible? Yes. Is it just as possible as in Australia or America. Yes. Can AI or myself find instances of it happening? No. I think someone just REALLY wanted to do the project so they exaggerated a bit.

A one meter span scale RC model of the JD-2 has been designed and built by Laddie Mikulasko, a Czech-Canadian who has designed many delta wing models: his North Star amphibian has been copied by many producers. His JD-2 plan and article are available for download from Outerzone.

fantastic nice but I miss basic info as stall speed rotation speed etc ,for comparison
@aircraftadventures-vids22 сағат бұрын
I didn't load it up with too much technical info to keep it interesting for non-aviation folks and avgeeks alike. I'm not sure about rotation speed but I believe stall is 61 kts. It is a runway hog no doubt, and eats up a lot of runway on landing as ground effect is strong.
@44R0NdinКүн бұрын
Delta wings make a lot of sense for a fast, yet easy handling GA aircraft. Great high speed performance (that's why you see a lot of early supersonic aircraft use them), great for landing on rough terrain if using a low-mounted delta wing (delta wings get effected by "ground effect" more than any other kind of wing I can think of from just my memory, meaning you don't get much of a choice, every landing is going to be a soft landing if it's above stall speed), and delta wings still show up occasionally in fighter jets to this day because they're unusually difficult to stall even at extremely high angles of attack, and even when they do stall, if they are designed correctly the aircraft with such a delta wing will usually simply "drop the nose" rather than have a preference to drop either wing in what is known as a "tip stall".
@aircraftadventures-vids22 сағат бұрын
I was advised that because of ground effect, it's a runway hog as it takes a long time to bleed off speed/ altitude while it's in ground effect.

An amazing story of shear determination showing real intelligent from experience than from having a sheep skin denoting intelligence. Such a wonderful aircraft! Certainly one that would be heirloom quality bequeathed thru family. This gentleman was far ahead of his time. Agree with other posts regarding use of modern materials & CNC equipment the construction could be significantly reduced. Yet not to many home builders have CNC at their finger tips...would enjoy a much simpler version built for 2...smaller scale....
