I would rather be able to defend myself and those I love than beating the shit out of someone and put them in the hospital.

I used to do haedon kumdo up until the graduation to enter the higher classes where the "master" was a pot belly dude that never showed anything and spoke about energy blows. It was too bs at that point which is sad because I was loving it until then

the movie is amazing, i think it would be received better if it was called something like "kung fu kid" not "karate kid"

I’m a sixty year old man who started serious study of Seido Juku karate when I was twenty three. When I became a brown belt in karate I also started taking judo lessons. I learn Goshin jujitsu and judo. I was taught all striking attacks in judo. By the way board breaking was popularized by judo ka in Japan. Wrestling is more practical for a serious judoka to learn than BJJ.

Just watched this video now/today. The coolest thing about Ranton is that you are trilingual, that's something you have mastered and will drive you further in life than any amount of videogames&exercise.

I am 64 years old, I began training in Boxing at 12 and at 15 I found a Wing chun class that impressed me to no end. I had attempted to join a Shaolin school located at 34ths street Braoday in Manhattan, but they did not spar at all, Pretty moves, but coming from a boxing back ground, it sucked. However the Wing chun school I joined, with Sifu Duncan Leung, had us sparring on day 1!They especially liked me because of my boxing background. To this day I coach boxing and use many wing chun principles. In a nut shell, I don't care what TMA you practice, if you don't spar, you will never make it work. After my Sifu left the states, every Wing chun school (in fact all Kung fu and Karate) I visited were focused on uniforms and Kata. I was used to punching and getting punched. So I dropped out of martial arts and continued boxing. I still have my wooden dummy and practice wing chun forms. what I have learned is that not every technique is effective every time. Real fighting is chaotic. Also, I feel that Wing chun is more of a grappling art rather than striking, Chi sao works great for me in boxing as I tie up an opponent, and in grappling, the unconventional attacks throw people off, but no technique works great ALL the time. 50 % skill, 50 % luck, 100 % circumstance. Thats real

I've studied multiple martial arts. I also worked in bars, on and off, full and part-time, for 12 years. Aikido is a very useful martial art. In the 12 years I worked in bars I was in, literally, no hyperbole, no exaggeration, hundreds of bar fights in some of the roughest bars in my city. When you are trying to defend yourself and control your opponent, as opposed to just beating him up, Aikido is ideal. Furthermore, when dealing with armed and/or multiple opponents, I think it is the best martial art.

the house isnt moldy, its from burning charcole, in rural places they still burn beehive coals to get warms in winter. Also if you see the stove, he burns wood for the stove. the blackness is more likely from the smoke and fire than black mold (the NorthEastern China is typically cold and dry, less likely to be mold).

I'm glad there's so many people that love this movie, many people hate it beacuse there's no mister Miyagi and beacuse well... they don't do karate. But in the end the only reason is beacuse its called "The Karate Kid" and don't get me wrong I love the original Karate kid movies but this movie as a standalone is great, its charming, beautiful and just fun, its silly in many areas as you showed sure but its still for the sake of being cool and I can dig that. the music and the iconic shots, so good. besides you cant be mad with Jackie Chan

I’m training in taser aikido… I hold one taser in each hand… And I really make people fly. OK, I’m lying… But it would be fun to have such control over Chi that you can make people jump back. I suppose there are a handful of people on the planet who can do that. of course, having a can of bear spray help the less capable of of us.

But then judo and jujitsu are just better than aikido for control applications. Have bounced and worked security, corrections etc. The control applications of aikido are done better by the listed above arts

I was told an amazing point on this subject by a gentleman who spent 50+ years in martial arts: “the monks box no different than what you see on Golden Gloves. All those katas are simple muscle memory techniques to make your body react naturally in case your brain doesn't/cant. Then they go train those reaction times to appear faster and faster. Martial arts are nothing but drills for muscle memory for when you actually need it. No one was actually meant to stand like a praying mantis wih chicken wrist hands. But I bet if you hit someone by surprise with it, they might think twice.”
