The reason for its slimness is due to some western tower houses being built in two stages, the second stage completed the form and made the plan square. There are many examples of this two stage process nearby, deerpark is just a unique example because it was never 'finished'. Just down the road in Lakyle is Creggmulgranny Castle, a completed two part castle. The split between the two halves is clearly visible.

Great video. I grew up playing in and around that house, and the mill. I remember the house before the fire that ultimately led to it's abandonment. We never called it Quartertown house though, we knew it as Park House.
@huzcer23 күн бұрын
what year abouts was that fire?
@LegioXXVV23 күн бұрын
@@huzcer We called it "Park House" and not Quartertown house. I was very young when the fire destroyed the building. It must have been early to mid 70's. We played in the old mill as well, and that was a death trap.

The British Aristocracy believed when they seized/stole land in Ireland, their legacy and bloodline would continue forever. Now the monuments to their crimes are crumbling into the West cork landscape. Their remaing foothold in the North Eastern corner of this Island will inevitably suffer the same fate, sooner or later!

An odd house with a very unprepossessing entrance, as if it was an after thought. it will make for a beautiful home but really needs some focal point for the entrance
