Almost at this stage with my 68. My first time also, I'll be happy if mine turns out as well as yours did. I'm more of a mechanic and will be glad when I can get to that stage. This has been a long learning process, each step (at least for myself) understanding there are no shortcuts, and so much more to painting a car than I had first realized. Thanks for tutorial. Your car looks fantastic. ((sub'd))

@@kevinfriend3514 I ended up taking a break for a couple years to finish my new shop. I haven’t had had a chance to work on it but she’s nice and cozy now. I’m considering it selling as a project for someone to finish. If not, I’ll probably start working back on it sometime later this winter.

Great work and perfect explanation. In the very past we did a lot of wet sanding and it was more common than dry sanding. Now it has changed to the opposit. I still like wet sanding exactly for the same reasons you have explained. Greetings from Germany

Thanks for posting this. Do you think it would be possible to replace the roller pin on the lower hinge without removing the hinge from the car? Trying to determine how hard I want to try to do that so I don’t have to remove and realign my fender on my 68. Thanks
@JakesShop5 ай бұрын
I don’t think you could replace these pins with the hinges on the car. I guess anything is possible with enough effort and the right tools but you’d spend way more time and possibility’s of messing something up. if it were me and I thought my fenders were aligned properly I take the doors off first then the hinges, and keep the fenders on. but I’d mark where they were at on both the door and the car before I remove them so minimally they should be on the car the way we’re.
@tkmoseley5 ай бұрын
@@JakesShop ah, that makes a lot of sense. It’s been so long since I’ve had either the door or the fender off, I thought have to take the fender off to get to those bolts. Appreciate the input.

Started wet sanding instead of dry & IMO it's a game changer. Finish is incomparable & cost wise, you're using fractions of the amount of paper compared to dry sanding. You can get a finish that really pings - makes a huge difference to the final product.

Hey bud, just ran across your video now. Got a little info . and a really cool "cheap" hack !! Number one , Jake when you see a dipstick and it isn't all chewed up -just a clean cut and you can tell this by putting this piece in the pan on the end of the cheapo dipstick that was in there. If they match up then it just cleanly sheared it off and you will know---don't be alarmed. Only be quite scared when you see a mess of brass and silvery metal particles on the pick-up screen and you should cut open your oil filter too and see how it looks. Then when you go to put your stock pan back on find another junk 350, take it's pan , cut the lower 3-4 inches of pan off the bottom of pan and you got yourself a damn cheap 8 quart oil pan. Just make damn sure you get or fabricate a correct dipstick for that motor now. Take Care!!!! p.s. we've(my shop) and I have bought, sold, and body-off-framed just over 400 1967-1972 Chevy/GMC 4x4 trucks, so needless to say we know alot of tricks !!!!!!!!!! Jim

It depends on how much primer you want to throw on top of it. It’s a little corse for final prep for a nice finish. But if you build enough primer on top it would work fine

What kind of spray guy did you use? The 3M guns designed for their brand undercoating are outrageous.
@JakesShop Жыл бұрын
I used an old undercoat siphon topper/gun. Basically just spins on the top of their 3-m can. They make generic undercoat spray guns. Like 20 on Amazon. My old one didn’t fit the threads on thr 3-m can top perfectly. So I just taped it on to ensure it would not fall off. :). I then tested it and adjusted pressure until I liked how the coating was coming out.

I’m sorry, but this information you are giving us is incorrect. Continued heating will fatigue, metal, and cause hardness which makes metal more difficult to manipulate using a hammer and dolly. Heat shrinking is meant to tighten up metal that is oil canning or is stretched at work or inward. But the heat itself is not used to remove lows or highs. The hammer and dolly is used for that after the heating. Then the quenching shrinks the metal back as does the hammer and Dolly. You cannot remove a low, with just heat. the metal hardens and causes more distortion overtime. Even though some of your tips are great, you are misleading individuals who would like to learn this the correct way. You are not doing it correct and I’m sorry but I have to add that because I am a collision repair technician that does this hundreds of times every year And there are plenty of videos on KZbin that show the correct process. But it is a process you cannot just use heat alone and expect a low or high to be removed from the metal metal does have memory, but it doesn’t have that good of a memory. Please watch some other videos of those doing heat, shrinking the proper way using the proper process and then practice this for years. And then once you become proficient at it, then you can go back and create another video and show people how it’s really done. I hope you the best and I hope you learn as you grow.
