I'm an atheist, but I have no problem with students using religion as a theme in their work. Separation of church and state means the public school cannot exclude students on the basis of faith, cannot lead prayers or force them to worship, and cannot recognise a religion as right or true. It would be wrong for teachers to set an essay like "God's plan for your life", but if a student wishes to write about their faith and it's relevant to the topic, they should be allowed to. I would be comfortable having my kids hear Dave's paper read in assembly. They could decide to learn more about his religion, or discard it as a joke, while allowing him to share his opinion. As long as they aren't forced to claim a religion or worship something they don't believe in, it's fine. Most non-religious people I know would say the same.

That should be old-fashioned by now but nobody calls having sex with a bunch of random people and Old fashioned idea. If you go back a little farther you find the same thing happen in the 1920s and in the 1880s. When I was a kid I was told my ideas were old-fashioned but the reality is if you have morals and principles based on something other than your worldly desires people will criticize you. If you try to live a higher law people will tell you that those ideas don't fit in a modern society. There really are not a lot of new ideas especially when it comes to moral principles and ideas.

Crazy beliefs, like men can give birth what the heck? At least christians can claim with dignity that Jesus' birth was a miracle, because the definition of a miracle is exactly, it is outside of science, but atheists, since they claim their religion is based on "science" itself, their claim has to be true each and every time, and I have never ever seen one single example of a man giving birth. So that's a 100% failure. So... what beliefs are laughable really?

Religion is fine as long as folks don’t try to force their religion on others.
@josephwheeler1 Жыл бұрын
Having a discussion about that is fine. The issue is how do you define forcing your religion on someone else? If your religion says murder is wrong and you vote for a law that makes murder illegal is that pushing your religion onto someone else? Most people would probably say no because a lot of people agree that murder is bad. So let's say half of the country doesn't agree that murder is bad. Am I now obligated to vote against my religion and vote for a law that says murder is okay just because someone else has a different belief than I have? It doesn't make moral sense to tell people that they should vote for things that they don't believe in. We are seeing a lot of religious beliefs pushed on people today but they're coming from people who claim that they don't have religious beliefs. This is kind of a fascinating phenomena. They seem to say that because they don't have any religion they can vote anyway that they want and that if your religion disagrees with them you're morally obligated to vote against your religion to support their belief system. When you're using the word religion their arguments almost sound like they should work. They fail flatly though in many situations. The most obvious one is that if you analyze their belief system it looks like any other religion except that they don't call it a religion. I think that they view that as an advantage but really it's just a manipulation tactic. From their perspective you're somehow less Worthy or less intelligent or less academic if you have a belief system that differs from theirs. What's really messed up is that like all religions they have an origin story, a death of the universe story, venerated saints or holy or respected individuals, religious rights and rituals, special sects or individuals who are above reproach and who's actions are beyond criticism, and every other aspect that defines a religion and religious interactions. Before you get excited think that you found a loophole there are more than one religion that believe disappear into various forms of nothingness when you die. The fact of the matter is there are just some people who want to force their religion on others and some people do that by claiming they don't have religion yet their personal belief system looks and acts exactly like a religion and then they try to enforce it on other people.
@elliotglickman4599 Жыл бұрын
@@josephwheeler1 while I see your points, it is not always that easy. Look at Florida, Texas and Oklahoma. Attempting to use a certain brand of Christianity in the schools. Alienating students of other religions. Wanting Christianity taught in the public schools. Is that right and fair. Rewriting history to say slavery was a good thing, because it was an acceptable practice in the Bible. I guess you can justify anything you do if you can find and twist a supporting passage in the Bible. Freedom to practice your religion does not mean you are free to force your religion on everyone else. It also means be respectful if someone is of a different faith, or no faith. Don’t weaponize your religion.

Many many of the founders of this country or Christians with devoted beliefs. That's all coming under attack today because some people don't want to believe that any intelligent people are ever religious. The idea was supposed to be more that people are free to choose how they're going to live their religion. Of course the assumption is that people are not using violent means to force other people to follow their religion. This happens all the time and other countries but much much less here in America. I'm not just talking about the Middle Eastern countries either. Even many Asian countries have violent religious conflicts that often end in brutal beatings or death. This is not very common in the United states. We see conflicts mostly due to culture that gets painted up to look like different types of conflicts. Something that we are starting to see a lot more of the United States is the enforcement of state-sponsored religion. You might think this is crazy but hold on a second. You know that public schools are government entities right? This means anytime a school teaches something it is literally being taught to the children from the government. The term public School shouldn't even be used. They're not so public. Not anybody can choose to go to any school. They are government schools. I don't think I could tell you how many times I heard teachers at school talk about religion or religious people. These teachers who are saying this type of thing are literally government representatives forcing their belief system on children who are not allowed to leave. This wouldn't be so bad except that the last few years we've seen extremely strong and sometimes violent attempts at pushing extreme belief systems on young children. If you agree with those belief systems then you probably don't have a problem with what's going on. I find that there is a segment of the population who is okay with using violent and manipulative tactics to force their belief system on other people. What you really have to ask though is if all the techniques that you support were all being used by the other side to teach things that you disagree with would you be as excited about it? I've never had a single person say that they would be okay with all the garbage that's going on in schools if they disagreed with what was being taught. This is what it was supposed to be about in schools. We should be free from government manipulation which includes manipulating children in government controlled schools. There are many ways to combat this problem. One of the ones that is the best is also the easiest but the government to enact. Give people school choice and let the money follow the students. This is incredibly unpopular though because of how much power it removes from the teacher's unions, the school boards, and the government in general. It's a fantastic option though for students and parents and improves outcomes on many scales every time it's tried. Of course if you ask the school boards they'll tell you it's evil and it's terrible for children but there are lines hundreds of students long trying to get into these programs where they do exist. You might not think that these things are related. It all comes down to not being manipulated for power and control by the government. And just to be clear as a final statement I realized that the government does have some important functions like our court system and protecting us from other countries etc.

Bearing the weight and punishment of the sin of the entire world and facing the righteous wrath of the Father on our behalf (for those who believe). The creator of the universe decended into human form to be mocked, beaten and killed for our sake. For love. Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

MARK 8:38 WHOSOEVER THEREFORE SHALL BE ASHAMED OF ME AND OF MY WORDS IN THIS ADULTEROUS AND SINFUL GENERATION; OF HIM ALSO SHALL THE SON OF MAN BE ASHAMED, WHEN HE COMETH IN THE GLORY OF HIS FATHER WITH THE HOLY ANGELS. ---- MATTHEW 10:33 BUT WHOSOEVER SHALL DENY ME BEFORE MEN, HIM WILL I ALSO DENY BEFORE MY FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN.

This is a 1958 drive-by Jesusing. The kid stands up for what he believes at the risk of ridicule. That's pretty awesome!!! Of course, if it were any other group, it wouldn't be ridicule. It would be beatings and blood on the floor. But they're not Christians, so that's ok?

This was before "Christian" came to mean worshipper of Trump, and "thoughts and prayers" came to mean doing nothing about problems.

It's funny because you obviously watch the video and yet you're doing the exact same thing that the people were doing in the video. People are trying to follow their honestly and legitimately help beliefs and other people are telling them that they're not allowed to. Christianity has nothing to do with trump. That's just something that hateful people say because they want to manipulate and politicize everything.

@@josephwheeler1 My comment was in praise of the Christianity as it was often practiced at that time -- before the political right manipulated and politicized it.

Is their belief harming you? Or being forced on you? Stop fussing then silly
@johnburkardt32023 жыл бұрын
@@debbienuke They can't call it a "non-God God obsession" It's like saying "You are dead to me!" to a mother or father. And then someone mentioning some of the mother and/or father's good points in ear shot "they're loving, wonderful, merciful, beautiful and the offended one responding "No they're not! They're stupid, tyrannical. hypocritical inhumane, monsters who don't exist to me!" Seems to me some people who claim God doesn't exist spend an awful lot of time in their lives writing about Him and how He doesn't exist to people like me who believe He is Love and does exist. Just goes to show that their are militants everywhere. Full disclosure I'm a devout Catholic and like this video. Most Christians I know well (Catholic and Protestant) are devout in their beliefs so what's the point in militant atheists mocking God and Christians who are already firm believers in Christ and His power. They aren't going to "convert" to secular humanism or something. Except for the "giggles" of having a Christian typing the stock phrase (in their opinion) of "I'll pray for you." Really weird dynamic going on. I would have the same advice for Christians what's the point in preaching to atheists who have closed their minds and hearts to full truth and God? Preach for the "Stan's" of the world- those who may be open to God. If you run into "Ziggy's" so be it. But I would say to Christians in summary "Know when to quit personally, but never give into the temptation to quit living in God Presence fully in full love, mercy, and justice. You never know who will come to God through your witness. Remember it;s about God's Truth and Love not about your feelings and being sidelined for standing up and being counted for Christ.
