Are there any differences with the door handles? I've a friend who has a 328i Pre-FL, his door handle opens outwards rather than upwards. When I asked he said this was typical of Pre-FLs.

The philosophy of french cars interior and exterior design is unique also they have a rubost engines and modern technology , but unfortunately some brands are killed by using horrible transmissions like Peugeot & Citroen when they choosed to use"AL4",and some by using bad electrical stuff like Renault

Interesting I never had a Safrane but I had the first Renault Laguna with the 16V engine. It was very comfortable and nice to drive but very unreliable. Spend £5k keeping a £3k car on the road about 3 years. Electrics, doors, radiator, engine, lights, everything went wrong before the rust finally killed it. Sold it for £400 scrap. Shame really, it was a great car to drive but unreliability is pretty much the single worst flaw you can have. Anyway good video, I like how it is very indepth
@collectingmodernclassiccar97713 ай бұрын
I think the variance in quality of cars like Renaults or Peugeots (non premium manufacturers) can be very marked. Either the cars are crackers or really problematic, rather than anything in between? Glad you enjoyed the video 👍

I’ve just checked what it is because I couldn’t quite remember. It carries an antenna for cars equipped with BMW Assist. Quoted from someone else: “That antenna, on the E46, is used on MY 2004 and up cars equipped with BMW Assist. It's essentially an analog cell phone network antenna, but can be gutted and used as a housing for a Sirius/XM antenna (Delmarco has a write up on it). For E46s with Nav, the antenna is located under the parcel shelf in the rear, or, for convertibles, behind the instrument cluster in the dash. “

So first off within a few seconds I have to correct you about the taillights. The pfl uses standard halogen globes, the facelift uses a solid unit with pcb’s and little individual leds soldered onto those pcbs and then driven all by a single control unit within the back of the taillight unit.

It’s a fair question. I’m no expert but I can offer an opinion from my experience. They seem to be VERY sensitive to condition and to a lesser degree engine, gearbox, colour and spec. An auto 2.5 in Executive trim in an attractive colour is a considerably more attractive proposition than a 2.0 manual with cloth seats and a drab colour. At the minute I can’t see one selling for more than £4K ish but then neither would a MK1 Mondeo so that’s not bad is it?

That's some stiff competition for the best car you've ever owned. Are you being serious?
@collectingmodernclassiccar9771 Жыл бұрын
It depends on the definition of best. It’s not the best looking, not the fastest, not the most prestigious but there really is something about this example. For purity of purpose, for ‘how could it be made better’, for standing the test of time (it’s over 30 years old now!) it really is right up there. Touch wood it never goes wrong, doesn’t throw hissy fits, starts first time every time and just gives out so much driving pleasure. Plus because it’s not fast you can really lean on it and drive it hard and not sorry for your licence. Pretty compelling package I think…
@S-Ltd1000 Жыл бұрын
