I've had my 940CD 2.3 LPT manual estate for 15 years. Best car i've ever owned. Done around 62k in it. Around 142,000 now. Spent a few grand on it this past 2 years as I was neglecting it and wanted to get it back into a nice classic. Been thinking of going down the HPT this next year as it does feel sluggish in power now.

Wow, 15 years is a good old stint but great to hear you’ve got the car back up and onto the road again. People do appreciate them- the Half Million Mile Volvo gets videos and pictures taken all the time. They also make for superb value classics although having owned yours for so long I don’t suppose it owes you anything now? As for the sluggish comment I suppose that’s just how modern machinery makes anything less than a few years old feel?

Judging by the triangular LED thing on the windscreen it would originally have had a Volvo Guard 1 alarm with remote central locking and immobiliser. The fobs are rare/expensive now and there are very often minor issues with the system which can be fixed with a bit of know-how and patience.

Ah I see. I did wonder if it was alarm related. To be honest I don’t think trying to resurrect it is a good idea. Alarms and immobilisers on ‘classic’ aged cars are often more hassle than they are worth, and I also think not messing too much with things that aren’t truly ‘broken’ is often the pragmatic approach. Good to know I could sort it though if I change my mind 👍

I have an odd problem with my 940 1996, i can only unlock with my fob but keys cant unlock doors or boot lid Ive tried all 3 keys i got with the car. But as I have the thicker/bigger key Im pretty sure i have immobiliser and i have no problem starting. Could it be related to volvo guard or do i just need to change locks?

Where did you put your coffee if that thing doesn't have cupholders?

🤣 lift the lid on the centre console and you’ve got a makeshift coffee cup holder 👍
