Looks like the real thing. I ve read the Boxer cartridge was made of 0,003 inches think rolled messing sheet (2 1/9layers) with paper inlayer and an drawn brass ground plate. Yours looks like one

It is my understanding that there were no cartridges made after the war for the military models. The smith became obsolete very quickly with the adoption of fully contained metallic cartridges.

@@bgeipel Hmmmmm. Yeah, I guess so. But paper Ctgs were made for percussion revolvers, for along time, I think...into the 1890s. Too bad there wasno viable way to convert the Smith to fire self contained metallic ctgs.

That was the biggest problem with the Hall. That gas leak. I've heard that on some Hall Rifles. That front part of the chamber was cut back, just enough to allow the use of a greased leather gasket. At least that's what I've heard.

It was a Connecticut state militia Peabody in .45-70. Price was three times what I paid for mine which is also a Connecticut.47-70
