Is it charging the car directly and bypass the battery meaning not charging the battery first?
@julesacompanado393

Hi, thank you for your question. I have the ecoflow charged at 100% and the car is charging from it at a rate of about 1,400 watts. The input from the 2 solar panels are only about 125 watts (Fall sun). So, this is not enough to balance the load. Eventually, it will deplete the ecoflow before it gets charged back. Hence, it does need more solar panels to make it sustainable. However, on an emergency situations the ecoflow can be charged from the solar panels at 100%, then use it to charge the car to make it run 3-4 miles.

It's an interesting concept, which I've thought about doing too... but like others have stated here, 200 W solar panels won't cut it... it's not enough power to be worth the hassle to set up for EV charging... As many have stated, best to go with around 1kW solar panels and a permanent array setup.. maybe some day I can get to do that...

Yes, that is what makes it sustainable. Hopefully, in the near future I can invest to a Tesla Powerwall and solar panels on the roof (fingers crossed).

What is your lifetime wh/mile and are you tracking this metric over time for degradation?

Hello and thank you for your question. As of today, 12-10-2024, my total mileage is 36,104 and my total energy is 9,584 kWh. The average energy usage is 265 Wh/mile which translates to 3.76 miles per kW. As far as battery degradation goes, I haven't checked that one yet.

Not a video to follow. 2x 100w does nothing for your Tesla. On a great day, you may get about 1000w which is 1kwh. And then moving that 1kwh to to Tesla causes more energy loss so you may get 3 miles from all that. I have a 1000w array just for the Tesla and I get maybe 5-6kwh on a great day. That's around 15 miles. 200w of solar panels does nothing for you.

Bought a 2017 Chevy Bolt used for 12k, spent 5k building a 3kw solar system to trickle charge the car, add anywhere from 10 to 50 miles of range daily. So for 17k I got a car that uses no fuel for my use situation. Doubt Tesla is gonna hit those marks any time soon, buy a Bolt and take the money you save to put up some solar for a gas station.
@WingAddict
@WingAddict 14 күн бұрын
This is great! We are on the same page! But, why would Tesla not be able to do this same thing? Sure it can. 12k usd is the equivalent of $17k cad where I am. I just got a 2018 M3 long range for $18.5k cad and it has a 75kwh battery. Since your Bolt has a 60kwh battery technically I got more value with my Tesla and it’s a higher end car. I just wanted to make sure that others were aware that this is not something you can only do with a Chevy bolt. There are lots of good used electric cars you can do with this concept to power it only by the sun!

@ivanbenkocky3290
@ivanbenkocky3290 Ай бұрын
Efficiency from solar panels is mostly 72 % and in direct sun maximum about 82%. All depends from position where are panels situated. So my advice is : Delta 2 max has solar input of 11-60 V 15 A = 500 W; but it has dual port 500+500 =1 000 Wats. Get a simple 2 big solar panels from any brand (it is very cheap around 130-160 dollars) but with "more" then 500 wats of solar power. Ideal 570 watt or even 620 watt. ( example 620 wats in efficiency of 82% is 508 wats...solar cable with possible extention cables with XT60i connector can make loses from 5-15 watts. So 508 watt of solar power minus loses of average 10 wats from cables is in range of 500 wats for solar input to your delta max to solar inverter ). Plug each panel separately to both XT60 ports. !!! Voltage from solar panel - check his Voc - can not be more then 60 Volts !!! . Ampers can be even bigger then 15 A - do not worry, ampers will be limited by ecoflow solar station invertor to maximum 15 A for each port. With this set up you can achive constantly almost 1000 wats of solar charging. With yours 200 wats portable solar panel will give you usually only 120-180 wats. Good luck

As I recall, that model EcoFlow can take up to 800W total via solar. so... You just need more panels! Be sure to set up two 400W connections, because the unit only accepts 400W per connection.

This guy expecting to get "at least 200 watts going into the [200W] panel" is dreaming. 200 watts is in ideal conditions, in a laboratory, set at directly perpendicular to the panel, at 25°C. Your mid afternoon solar intensity is not that high, ambient temperature not optimal, orientation lacking adjustment.

People are missing the point. With a little expense and a little research you can produce your own power to charge your car. Your setup is too anemic to be useful for daily driving but in a pinch you could get some useful range out of it. Annalysis: Tesla Model Y uses 300w/hr per mile. 100w panel will produce 600w/hr (6 solar hours under ideal conditions). That will give you 2 miles of range per day. Your 4800w/hr battery bank will give 16 miles of range + 4 more from 2x 100w panels. 20 miles is better than no miles, but you are not going to get more than 4 additional miles per day with that setup once the battery is depleted. If you want a useable amount of range. Say 20 miles per day. You are going to need 1000w of panels. You will need to wire your panels in series to produce 24v so the battery's internal charge controller can handle the additional power. It would be gentler on the controller to do a 24v setup anyway even with small panels. For a round trip commute, it would be 2000w. An actual reasonable amount of solar panels to have on site. (4 large 24v house panels.)

Thank you for this detailed analysis. I have no plans in charging my Y with solar as it is not ideal with my current set up. I do have a Tesla Level 2 charger in the garage. Maybe down the road, I would get the Tesla Powerwall with some solar panels on the roof to support it. 😉

Don't plug your battery into the house power to charge it with that ground plug in The house power is already grounded. It might break your battery. Input from your solar is different than the house power.
@CC-gt3ro
@CC-gt3ro Ай бұрын
Exactly. Only one neutral to ground is allowed, or else any of your devices in your house with metal casing would be a risk. In a RV, the charger/inverter have a ground relay that detect the power automatically and shut down automatically the inverter neutral bonding when the rv is connected to a campground shore power. But it is not automatic with these powerstation. Make your grid plug well visible so you know if it is plug or not.

This is for keeps. Degradation is supposed to taper off after the first year, but we'll see. For now my 74% gives me 232 miles. That's 232/0.74 = 313.5 miles on a 100% charge. Brand new estimate is 330 miles. So, degradation is 330/313.5 = 1.052 or 5.2%.
