Just wanted to thank you. I’m a model builder I am truly at the end of buying little acrylic or oil based tins ready mixed 😂 I have started making my colour wheel and bought oil paints instead as I am going to get a lot better results with those bottles and tins is different finishes all the way. I better learn this. So I’m on a self made colour mixing course. You’ll be happy to know I took your recommendations on nuetral Grey set from Williamsburg they do sell here in the UK. 🇬🇧 so I am very happy I will learn though. From ivory to white by learning. Also the colour wheel in going to complete however for me I am only really needing browns sand colours flesh tones and all the greens and grey-blues naval air or sea I am also going to build some galleons wooden ones and detailed and so I want the whole thing to work from the off. I thank you as this is upping my game even though it’s not on canvas I thank you again.

i noticed you didnt give any tube colors for some of the bracketed colors. is that because there isnt one, or just didnt mention them? im curious since i basically own every gamblin color from a previous project.

How do you translate the home value to the step of CHROMA? E.g. Cad Orange HV 7 = 16 steps chroma. You lost me there. Thanks much. I am charting and learning so much.

Gamblin is musell friendly. They list the value of all their hues. A master chart is available on their site. That is extremely helpful for their grays when we want to make our own grey scale. Our scale will be more accurate because of their help. This is the only site I’ve found that shows how to mix the Musell charts. Thank you.

Excellent, unique, consolidated, clear (explanation & photography). Difficult to intuite where darks are placed, appreciate your showing us. The colcolumn’s show a steady progression in value paralling the grey scale. Chart actually shows two dementions?

You are an excellent teacher, by the way and you can indeed draw and paint. A picture is worth a thousand words and if a teacher does not demonstrate, I find that useless.

Fantastic! Years ago, I learned the Riley System but no one ever taught beyond Part 1 of your modeling the cast (what you call the "fill" stage), they would call poster and blend. Color in the shadows were always greyish brownish, not attractive but color in the lights were good. No Riley teacher ever demonstrated and I wondered if they, indeed, could draw or paint or were just quoting Riley's notes. Part 2 of modeling the cast demonstrates how you finish or model the form. Would like to see specifically portraits done outdoors. I did find useful finding the local value of flesh at 6 or 7 and shadows 3 or 4 for form lighting. Do not mix the Riley palette but with just the broad value of the flesh in the light and shadow can modify from there. Interested is some of the theories if not the palette itself.

Just did a plein air competition this past weekend. I've only painted outdoors like this a few times and am realizing that the hue green in nature can be VERY challenging. Could you please make a video on mixing greens as seen in nature and things we need to be aware of so as not to end up with a painting that is all the same value or too saturated, etc. THANK YOU!

Could you substitute venetian red with burnt sienna (RYR)and raw sienna for burnt sienna(YR)? So the colors would be yellow ochre, raw sienna, and burnt sienna🤔

I love that you've done this series for making chroma charts, but man, we have to mix so much paint to make the color wheel, flesh wheel, chroma charts, etc. I'm going to do it, because it is seriously helpful, but a lot of work.

In a million years it would not have occurred to me that I'd need to mix the burnt umber and raw umber together before making this string of color values. Absolutely essential information. I just found your channel, and this is the best explanation, and method, I've found yet, especially how to identify where on the value scale a color falls. I've struggled with that in past paintings as I'm learning. This will help me dramatically!! Very pleased. Thank you! 😊
