Modeling the Sphere

Finally, a video to start putting those tools (at least the value scale) to use.
Concepts to remember:
1. The Law of Transition (Rule of 3) - it takes a minimum of three value changes to make a gradation
2. Three Approaches to Describing Form -
SPATIAL - top/front/under/side left/side right
NOMENCLATURAL- Highlight, Light Light, Middle Light, Dark Light, Halftone, Light Shadow, Middle Shadow, Dark Shadow, Accent
TONAL - Number values from 11 (white) to 0 (black)
Painting Procedure:
mosaic the light mass, couch the shadow mass
Step 1 - Background
Step 2 - Middle Shadow
Step 3 - Light Light
Step 4 - Dark Light
Step 5 - Middle Light
Step 6 - Blend (perpendicular blend)
Step 7 - Halftone (parallel blend)
Step 8 - Dark Shadow
Step 9 - Light Shadow
Step 10 - Highlight (and Accent if one exists)

Up until the plandemic I was doing a lot of teaching with some senior ladies. We worked in acrylics and they were just happy to paint and not at all interested in the technical side of the process. I did very little serious painting on my own during that time and now that I have all this time to paint I discovered that I am REALLY rusty. I've repainted a portrait of my new horse 3 times and still can't get him right! I spoke to Ann Pedrick and she gave me much needed encouragement. ( wish she & Chris were still here in NJ) This video gave me some good advice on areas I need to work on. Thank you.

Im thinking about the 'warm/cool/warm theory'.......If I applied this process in the video to a portrait - and my shadow area = warm - then the next area is darkest light = cool - mid light = warm - light light = cool - specular highlight = warm? Or is that theory bunk in your experience? Basically should each mosaic tile alternate in warmth?
