Pressing where the wall meets the slab is such an amazing idea! I found that when handbuilding pots like mugs etc that had a wall and base this helped immensely with cracking! When the pot is leatherhard I go back and burnish this area just a bit and I haven’t had a single crack since doing that!!

I felt kinda stupid watching this video. I was just trying to brush up on the basics through a video but now you tell me Ive been doing it wrong all along. I thought you use your thumb to make the divot and then use both thumbs to deepen it. Now I'm sad. 😥

When you say absorbent surface. What do you mean? What are you rolling the clay on?

You would not believe the number of people on KZbin talking about "squeezing" then pulling straight up. But when you look at their technique it is obviously "offset" and stretching like he is explaining here! The confusion is that most people don't even know what they are doing; clearly their fingers are offsets (inside is higher than outside) but they think the fingers are aligned and they are squeezing! They will even cut the pot in half and tell you they are squeezing... An amazing explanation in this video.

I just discovered your KZbin channel as well as your Pottery art. I found one of your mugs at a thrift store and I thought it was in the top ten of beautiful coffee mugs I have ever had. I will be 72 in a few months so I have had a great deal of coffee in my days. I love your pottery! Where can I purchase some?

I find quite strange that you would do a video about shellac resist when, obviously, you are not using shellac in this demo, but what looks like wax resist.

Thank you!! I’ve been struggling with this and I ruin all my pots I try to trim! I realize now that the angle seems to be important, I think I was trying to go at it at a straight on instead of angled!

This is one of the best tutorial videos I've seen! I've been throwing since February with pretty decent results, but your video helped me realize a few potential flaws in my technique. I had been pushing inward with my knuckle to create the bulge and I think that's why the bottom of my cylinders were never quite right. Excited for studio time this morning! Thanks so much for the terrific lesson.
