Great video. The houses at the start at 1:24 were actually completed in 1995 rather than being Victorian!

Oh wow... I must say that when we filmed there, it was relatively clean. We didn't look into any bushes. Certainly, when we are afloat, we take great care to not brass anyone off or leave evidence of our being there. It's a shame that some others do! Thanks for commenting.

Hi Layla, I live in South Africa. The sun is always shining here and there is always the risk of developing skin cancer if you have a light skin. I developed a growth on the lower eye lid of my right eye. I do not know if it is cancer or just a benign growth but I went on a high nutrition diet for about two months and the growth have shrunk noticeably. I would like to share the diet with you. The soup Ingredients: - two handfuls of Chopped broccoli, one chopped onion (purple), two bags of green tea, two pinches of mixed herbs, two sticks of cut celery, Two handfuls of frozen and crushed spinach or kale, half a table spoon of crushed garlic, Three shakes of black pepper, seven shakes of turmeric, two tablespoons full of apple cider vinegar (with the mother), one bag of white onion powder soup for flavour, a hand full of cooked red speckled beans and a handful of cooked mince meat. Just add all the ingredients in a pot, add boiling water and switch the stove on high till the water boils. Then lower the heat until the water simmer, Let the soup simmer for an hour. The soup is now ready. I would only drink water in the morning. At 12h00 I would start eating the soup. There will be about two helpings that you can eat in the 12h00 to 18h00 time frame. I also ate a fruit salad every day in the 12h00 to 18h00 time frame. (Note: Apparently turmeric reduces the effect of some chemotherapy drugs and thus should not be taken during chemotherapy.) During the rest of the week I would also eat food that contains vitamin D like avocado’s, mushrooms, liver and eggs in the 12h00 to 18h00 time frame. It seems to be working for me, maybe it will also work for you. I pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ that you will be healed and that the cancer will not return. Amen. Fab video. Been on that walk but not as far as you. Thanks for sharing. But yeah, those urban canals in Brum with new and old buildings surrounding them is really quite astonishing. Those side tunnels are where the canal used to go direct into the factory for loading of goods. There are many throughout that have been bricked up. It’s not Venice but it’s post industrial Britain.

Why isn’t Lincoln’s Fossedyke ever mentioned when it comes to the oldest canal?
@idocanals
@idocanals 5 ай бұрын
That's an excellent question Charlie The Fossdyke Navigation, probably engineered by the Romans (not conclusively proven) and subsequently managed and maintained by King Henry 1st, King James 1st, Bishop Alexander of Lincoln and many others. The navigation possibly follows an old line of the old River Trent or other river and therefore is a 'Navigation' and not a singular canal. The Fossdyke and several other River Navigations predate, by hundreds of years, our Canal network.

What a palavar. I would have exited the lock, approached the landing and attached a line to the first pile. Then using it as a spring line reversed with helm pushed to port and the boat would have pivoted counter clockwise and it would have come along side the landing with no risk of the boom above the weir.

I think it is not possible to over estimate the importance of this canal! It can reasonably be shown to have kickstarted the industrial revolution with cheap coal into Manchester! The Starvationers were, I believe the first container boats each able to hold 50 (I think) tons of coal. They were moved underground by two methods. One was a series of low "locks". When the simple boards of the lock was removed the boats within were washed down to the next lock. The other method was "Legging it" A person would hook a chain to loops fitted in the tunnel wall and walk (leg it) to the other end of the boat, quickly unhooking themselves and nipping to the front of the boat to repeat the process. They wore a leather harness for this and there is a picture of one lady who was persuaded to dress back up for the photo. She lived in one of the cottages now long gone from the canal side 1/4 mile on the right toward Manchester. The Nail makers Cottage is actually an office, but has had many uses previously. The boat used for Queen Victoria was hosed in the boathouse 100yds on the left with the black and white striped doors (visible at 18:30). Unfortunately (or fortunately) it is now a house with the boathouse being only a facade left in place! There is much more to be told about this place but I will leave the last "nugget" as the disappearance of the Ochre colour ( iron still seeping out of the mine) is due to a publicity stunt by United Utilities who pump the water through a reed bed next to the M60 Barton Moss! You can now see the bottom of the canal right up to Trafford park on a good day!

Has there been any attempt to send in a remote vehicle of some kind to see what its like inside the mines these days? Obviously not saying send people in but it would be so interesting to try get some sort of 3d map of the workings to show just how much there was, would make a really interesting sculpture as well to represent all the tunnels as a big casting 😊

Just had my MRI and blood tests. PSA 25, biopsy next and not sure what is ahead. U.S.A. Thanks,
@idocanals
@idocanals 8 ай бұрын
PSA 25 is not too bad. Mine was 88 when treatment commenced. The biopsy can be a little uncomfortable but is conclusive. You'll then get a Gleason score which grades speed of growth and aggressiveness. Each are 1-5, 5 being the strongest. Mine was 4-4. Once they have your Gleason, they will determine the course of treatment. Hormones and radiotherapy is most common. Sometimes combined with surgery. I was too late for surgery, so I had hormones, chemo, brachytherapy and radiotherapy. This September, I'm FIVE YEARS CLEAR. Above all, keep a strong positive attitude with a determined focus on YOU. Where on our planet are you? Happy to chat privately if you wish. All the Very Best, Simon

I’m in the States. They told Me anything above a .6 was bad and since I’m a 25 then I have cancer and it could spread so I went on my own and had the MRI done and a few blood tests. Started out January 1 - February 15 at a 22.5 and then the end of February at a 25 score. So we will see I guess. MRI results next week then a biopsy if it is needed from the MRI which I think will happen. Thanks again for the video
@idocanals
@idocanals 8 ай бұрын
@@AmberWhiskeyRGS There's a lot of stuff online that can give you the wrong impression. PSA is a factor. More important is the Gleason Score which you'll get from the biopsies. My score of 88 was quite high but I've met men who were in the hundreds and are now years in the clear. My PSA rose quite quickly, 78 to 88 in four weeks. Some guys I've met have experienced much slower increases or even fairly static. Wait for your biopsies and try not to read too much online as opinions vary so much and are often way off reality. Stay Strong and believe in yourself. Surround yourself with supportive family and friends. Wishing you the Very Best. Stay in touch Simon (UK)

As an American, not really knowing British history intimately well as a person who grew up there, I thought this was very well done and explains at the beginning to an outsider. This is one of the first places in the UK where the industrial revolution began. It makes me think similarly of the Arkwright Mill in Manchester, the first known textile mill, from what I know, that made Manchester the first textile mill town in the world.

My bladder retention and UTI problems + an increase Gleeson score from 6 to 7 sent me to a radical prostatectomy. That was 8 weeks ago and I’m pissing like a stallion , on no drugs and regained continence. My PSA is now negligible. In short my recommendation is , as my Urologist agreed , get it out .
