Great reminder of years gone by. When I was young in the seventies I really loved Jan Francis but didn't realise she looked so young, but we all did I suppose.

I’m pretty sure it’s Crisp Street Market in Tower Hamlets, East London. You can see Balfour Tower in Poplar in the background. It’s not much of a market these days, nothing like on this wonderful video, it does however have the best Pie & Mash shop in London! Maureen’s. IMHO 😂

Looks like the park scenes were filmed in Victoria Park - 'Julius Caesar' resides on the Burdett-Coutts Drinking Fountain.

4:49 Obviously not a real policeman. I think coppers couldn't buy anything, including food and drink, whilst on duty and in uniform until about 2000, i think ?

I think the execution superseded the concept. I mean, the get go is sorta intimacy harassment and at least offensively forward. I get that it was a different time as is commonly stated, but I was a young adult in 1977, I mean, it's post second wave feminism. But yeah, really well done with the little brass band, in the interesting flea market setting.

@@WygruceLooks to me like an ad for science teachers. I can definitely see the word science on the right. I'm a child of the 60s/70s. I went to a grammar school but they were always trying to recruit into teachers training in Birmingham where I grew up. I wanted to be a nurse, they tried to get me into teachers training but I stood my ground and became a nurse. ETA it looks like a science textbook now that I've looked again.

The lodger starts off starchy and ends up falling for her. But at first it seemed like she was going to turn out to be a phycho, but as it developed and she explained how George had mentally abused her, the fears for the lodger's wellbeing dissipate and it becomes a touching romance. That gradual switch from potential horror to probable romance is what makes this.

Ah the "freedom" of the 1970s! It all hangs on Dennis's cheeky charm and vast acting range in lieu of a script. Yes well, at least Mike Westbrook & co got a couple of bob! And Dennis's hair is a thing of wonder, natural ear muffs as the rest retreats defeated. Many thanks! 👍
