Yes, must try a freight at Stourbridge coming from Round Oak direction, that is probably about 1,000 metres. Be more sensible to use a tripod, but of course I don't.
@andrewhadley20265 күн бұрын
@@SharposWorld I know..I keep thinking about a tripod...but then you've got to carry it around, set it up (correctly) and I know at some stations, they don't like you using them as it's a 'trip hazard'...
@SharposWorld5 күн бұрын
I did try a tripod many years ago but panning was jerkier than holding a camcorder. Perhaps if I'd had an expensive tripod that smoothed out jerky movements things might've been different.

@@SharposWorldquite the long zoom if you stand where I stand at stourbridge ;)
@SharposWorld5 күн бұрын
Yes Liam, I did a lot of those long shots when I first had a camcorder. Back then the southbound freight in the morning was after 10am and I could get there for free on the train, but it runs at an earlier time and before I can use the oldies pass.

Imm guessing this spot is all overgrown now ? You aren’t up on the top of the hill in the first field by the tunnel.. wouldn’t mind giving it a try myself

Thanks for reminding me of that video, just watched the 2-6-4T and thought how well I filmed it!!! Not been there for a couple of years so not sure how clear the view is now. I was by the hedge between the two fields, should be easy for you to work out where if you have a walk in that area one day.

Yes, it is Stourbridge Junction. If you look at the video of the 50s on 1st July you can see the station sign with that name, and also that clock in the car park, same with the video of 47773.

You haven't done any bird videos lately, so here you are with the sounds of gulls at Birmingham (can you get any further from the coast?). It's a few years since I went on 'The Shakespear' with our son. The tunnels at Snow Hill were more impressive than Stratford IMHO.

Raises a few questions - Do camcorders age at ten years per human year (like dogs do 7)? How many times have you 'volunteered' to walk to the supermarket (at certain times)? Does your wife watch your YT Channel or is it 'just coincidence? 'I'm sure she sees the health benefits in it for you!🤣🤣 Sorry, Steve. P.S. Nice vid!

Really atmospheric video, great stuff. Does the loco go all the way back to Moor St to cross over, rather than using the release at Snow Hill? (And they’re still showing white lamps at both ends! Tsk!)
@SharposWorld23 күн бұрын
Thanks. Yes, I think the cross over at the end of the platform is just for trains heading towards London from platform 2. There does not seem to be any signalling for a train coming from the London direction to use that cross over.

I never knew the climb from Moor Street was so steep! Was it always like that, or was the original Snow Hill more on the level?
@SharposWorld23 күн бұрын
It's the same as it was back in the old days, being in a tunnel I suppose it would be very difficult, and expensive to alter the original trackbed.

He wasn't a problem, amused me when he shouted "stand back" to the people on the other platform. Apart from getting bowled at Smethwick a few weeks ago, that's the only steam loco I've seen since the SVR gala a month or so ago.
