I know this is an old video, but I really wish the names of the games were on the screen when you show clips from them! I saw a few whose clips really intrigued me, but I have no way of knowing what game you were playing without asking in the comments with a dozen time stamps…

Terraria, Dead Cells, Hollow Knight and Hades changed my gaming "life". Each of these in their own way showed me what a game COULD be and to this day remain my favorite games of all time bar none, don't even have to think about it.

I really enjoyed the isometric retro sci Fi horror "Signalis". Very much a 1990's PC vibe from the game.

I like Pathway. It’s like X-Com meets Indiana Jones wrapped in a rogue lite.

Really enjoyed your analysis, and I have a new list of 'want to try' games by going through the comments. I'd like to add 'Tacoma' as a space mystery recommendation. Very linear but I thought the way the game is designed was pretty special.

Amazing video. From seeing some of my all time favorites like Hades and What Remains of Edith Finch to getting hyped to play games I have had on my radar for a while to finding new games this was an excellent 80 minutes to sit through. Much praise

Suprisingly boring and predictable list, including 50% of games which not even pass 4 criterias at the beginning. From all top-lists of mystery games i wached on youtube, this one is the most empty.

My favourite realization by far is in case 5. I read the book about encoded messages with a word on each new line and then, after closely examining every note I could find, found that the poisoner had been informed in a seemingly innocent note to poison the target.

If you put Hades and Dead Cells on any list I wont take it seriously. They are good games, but there are many rogue type games that are just straith up better. In cause of Hades its all art budget that carries it unfortunately. Without fancy character illustrations no one would bat an eye

I remember playing Outer wilds on play pass, cause i thought the rocketship looked cool in the photo of the game - i thought, oh! "A fun game about space" - Of you haven't played it, go experience the best game ever made. ❤ Thank you for a video with several titles i haven't played!

This is the rare list that I largely agree with, except for your top spot. I felt like I was in a tedious loop of snapping up a tidbit of information before I had to start over again on my painfully slow path to inevitable victory -- except it was just too boring to get through. Like hangman with endless guesses.

Man, I was so disappointed with Sea of Stars. Coming off of The Messenger, I was expecting more clever dialogue and tight gameplay, and it really whiffed on both. The aesthetics were the highlight for me, everything else was frustrating. To your point about Zale and Valere, I couldn't help thinking the story was more about Garl than the supposed main characters. I applaud the devs for the massive amount of work they put into it, but I get the sense they were more concerned about making an 'homage' than a cohesive game

A mention I'd like to make is Heaven's Vault, another game by Inkle. You're an archaeologist in a unique fantasy world of islands floating through a nebula you navigate by sailing its streams. You seek to find a lost colleague while learning about the ancient history of the world around you, spanning thousands of years. It's a point-and-click game at heart but the fascinating aspect is that you have most of the answers in front of you, but you need to translate them from the long-forgotten ancient language. You slowly piece it together through context and inference, learning the words and grammar. There are some choices you can make in the game that will change how your story turns out, some things may or may not be possible depending on what you do. You can also play a new game plus mode when you beat it, which is still the same except the language decyphering has a lot more to it.

something i think is great about Her Story’s initial question is that it’s not ‘who killed simon?’ it’s ’did she kill simon?’ and i think immediately pushing focus on to one suspect and learning so much about her life and what led up to the murder is what makes it work so well
