8:04 - I have never noticed that Sally's face and body stitches are different colors!! I did a whole body-paint several years ago, studied the film, photos, stills, behind the scenes, and never once did I notice that! Nobody in the behind the scenes mentioned it. But looking at the still in your video, and looking up stills from the film, you're absolutely right! I guess they figured black stitches on her face were to distracting, but black stitches on her body were okay? Wow. Learn something new every day! Your doll looks great! I admire the dedication to put her stitches all over, even where the costume covers. This way, you can make different costumes, and no matter how they're cut or how they fit, she'll be all Sally all the time.

You mention how many other Sally dolls there are on KZbin. Gurl, your Sally is so different!!!! Please don’t second guess your work. Your interpretation is beautiful! And even if you did a straight up Sally, your art style is what people watch for. ❤
@BleuPanda-em9to7 күн бұрын
Yeah a ton of people have done certain characters, but I've never been bored or rolled my eyes at it because the styles are so different that it doesn't feel like the same thing over and over. Even if it's been done a lot, do it anyway. Your art is unique to you.

You done very amazing but fun fact there's a book called the pumpkin queen and it's about Sally's past, actually her "father" figure is actually her kidnapper since she belong in dream town (something with the sand man) she was kidnap at a young age
@art-eroflore7 күн бұрын
huh, I didn't know they wrote a book. looks like it was in 2022, so I'm not sure I'd consider it "canon" to the movie, it seems like they just got a writer to make a sequel. i might have to read it to see how it goes, although im not sure i like the idea of her being kidnapped since it kinda diverges from the movie.
@rin_rin21467 күн бұрын
@art-eroflore it's actually Canon to the movie and a continuation of the movie. definitely should give it a read and put your opinion to it.

Have you tried using epoxy sculpt?
@art-eroflore8 күн бұрын
In my most recent video, I used 2-part apoxie, it's something I've started using more recently. But I have heard it is not as good for ball jointed dolls because it is very heavy, or at least it needs to be used sparingly. (it is also rather expensive! so i use it in small amounts)
@Angelina_Davis258 күн бұрын
@art-eroflore Have you tried moldable plastic or friendly form or worbla thermoplastic sheets?

She's so cute ! I think the vibrant blue of her scars/stiches contrasts quite nicely with her outfit in these warm colors. I like the pale grey you chose for her iris, it makes it very subtle so she still looks like the movie version of herself
@art-eroflore8 күн бұрын
ty ty! Making a character with such contrasting colors is not really my "style" usually but I feel like it all works cause she is just meant to be a little "clashing" in her original design

Aaah she looks amazing!! The quilted outfit definitely seems like a challenge, I think you handled it nicely, though the coat/bustle thing would have been cool. I dressed as Sally one Halloween when I was very little and had this yarn wig that tangled so baaaad lol. The crazy thing I find about her in the movie is that it at least seems like the Doctor created her to be a wife (given his creation of his "better half" by the end) but their relationship also seemed very father/daughter so it feels 🤮 I love your interpretation! The magical girl approach is super cute~
@art-eroflore10 күн бұрын
Thank you!! That outfit sounds like it would be very cute, a red haired rag doll would remind me of a raggedy anne type! Yeah, I kind of had more to ramble on about the Doctor and Sally, but to me their interactions read very firmly as parent/child; he calls her "girl" and stuff, but then he does create a wife at the end... but then again, his "wife" literally just is him again, half his brain, so there's something going on there. I was looking at videos about Sally and found a lot of theories about whether she was someone specific before she "died" and i always I guess interpreted her as like... not really a frankenstein, because leaves fall out of her arms and legs. Anyways now i have a lot of thoughts on Sally I didn't before, even though I've seen the movie many times!

I love the colors! The pastel rainbow turned out really nice, and I like the contrast between saturated and muted colors. The poodle's eyes still turned out spot on, to me, and I love the take on the ladybugs shiny galaxy eyes. Lps is nostalgic to me for both toy and art reasons- it was my first dive into stylization as a kid! I had a stuffed animal version (yes, it was a stuffed bobble head) that I made a character and drew constantly (his name was Prince), and my obsession with big sparkly eyes started there!
@art-erofloreАй бұрын
Thank you!! Also that's so adorable! I think my first dive into making characters was inspired by Pokemon, but I dunno why I didn't draw LPS much. I do know I rarely named my toys except for one LPS who was named Diamond... I miss diamond </3 I don't have her anymore
@hannahisapalindrome44Ай бұрын
Aww, these turned out cute! For the poodle stand, you could save the metal part of a can of biscuits and paint over it or something. Should be about the right size unless I'm misremembering how big LPS are.
@art-erofloreАй бұрын
Thank you! And that's a good idea- I don't really have cans of biscuits around (I imagine you're referencing the UK version, like cookies?)- I do go through a lot of cans of beans though, so I can maybe clean and trim down one of those!
@hannahisapalindrome44Ай бұрын
@@art-eroflore No, I'm from the US lol. I meant like the canned pillsbury biscuits you get in the cold section. Regular canned food would probably work too. Try finding some with the pull tab so you won't have to trim it.

Out of all the repaints I've watched this is the most interesting. I love nanana dolls and have so many that are thrifted and have messed up faces. I didn't know what to do to repair them. This worked so well. She's so cute abd her elf ears makes her unique from the original dolls. Like she is a fairy princess or something. She needs wings now.

The patchiness of the short hair as you were applying it reminded me of someone with trichotillomania! Would be a reasonable explanation for why she wears wigs ❤

awww headcanon accepted! I like having little backstories/facts about characters, it makes them more unique!
@CyanDocs2 ай бұрын
As a short haired girl who would consider wigs over growing my hair long, I approve this doll! I've definitely met some very femme girls who got full buzz cuts, but I love the character flavor. I used printable iron on design paper forever ago, I wonder how that might fare with something like this, just doing whatever custom face you want digitally...? You'd probably have to transfer it flat and form it around the face, which sounds like a pain, but possible? It would sort of be like wrapping a texture on a 3D model lol. I'm so down with watching some LPS redesigns, they're very nostalgic to me! Ponies would be cute too, maybe you could make one to match your humanoid doll!

I wonder if applying spray glue to the face before applying the fabric would help the fabric conform to the molded facial contours? You could even sculpt more pronounced cheeks and noses with some foam clay first
@art-eroflore2 ай бұрын
Depending on the thickness of the fabric it might help but honestly the mold is *so* faint I'm not sure how much that would change things. a foam clay would for sure help.

I think the run looks like a little scar on the doll, it gives her a story. Maybe it was just a scratch from her cat, Maybe she got it from a near death experience, Who knows? Maybe her name is Sunday Paws?
