Before you comment about the Moomins: they are Japanese "pop culture icons" that were originally published in Swedish and Finnish before being exported to Japan in the 1960s. They are very beloved in Japan on their own merits. I thought it was an important comparison because I have read criticism of Takara's big/round noses and how they wouldn't be favored by Japanese audiences because of preference for small noses- but Moomins basically prove this untrue. It is unknown why the Takara ponies did not sell well. "Japan is the largest market for Moomin goods and has served as a second home since the late 1960s" - Hyung Gu Lynn, read more: apm.iar.ubc.ca/moomins-multiplied/

You're doing some wonderful work for toy collectors everywhere! When it comes to MLP collecting, the Takara ponies are everyone's white whale. With 3D printers becoming more available and more affordable, we may be looking at a new era of reverse-engineered and reproduced old toys, all thanks to creative and dedicated people like yourself. It's kinda like abandonware, but for physical items! How freaking exciting is that??
@AlottaBoulchit

That is SO awesome and I really hope it becomes the norm for folks to just recreate old, lost toys in this style! I am 40 years old and there's so many toys from my youth that I wish either lasted longer or would make a come back in some way. Also as I am into customization, I wish I could have snatched up a bunch of these old toys so I could customize them. haha Being able to print a reproduction would be such a boom to creatives everywhere!

The bigger one you designed is adorable! You can probably find someone you could pay to use their 3D printer at a table-top gaming store! There are some people at a gaming store I go to that only charge the cost of the amount of resin used so I've had three minis printed for about $12

This is so cool! I've heard of Takara Pony before this, and that they were highly sought after as grails by MLP collectors due to their rarity (haha), and somehow I had no idea they were kinda like MLP + Sylvanian Families in nature, probably due to being only familiar with fakie babies.
@art-eroflore
@art-eroflore 4 ай бұрын
Yeah, the sylvanian families were actaully released that same year as the takara ponies I think, but by a different company. Takara also had their own line of sylvanian family esque toys, called the "3-2 classmates," which were also fuzzy lil anthro characters. It seems to me the Sylvanian families just took off and eclipsed the other, similar toylines at the time.

@@art-eroflore Considering Hasbro owns Kenner, and Blythe was at one point tied to Littlest Pet Shop, it's pretty interesting that Takara Pony didn't seem to go anywhere, but that Takara would get a big break from the deal with Hasbro similar to the Transformers one not with MLP and Takara Pony, but with Blythe in regards to adult doll enthusiasts! Seriously! Blythe is huge in Japan to the point I think a lot of people get confused and think the dolls were Japanese in the first place (they were created by Kenner)! P.S. This video is taught me about Transformers having Japanese origins! I assumed that they were inspired by a Gundam fan working at Hasbro or something! I never knew until now that they were a Takara property initially! It does make sense though, the super/giant robot is a trope associated with anime, and TF was basically the only example I could name that is a "western" super robot franchise!

@@art-eroflore it was just stuff like how you block out shapes first in blender, which shortcuts you use etc - I've never used blender because it's so intimidating, but breaking it down and seeing you use it made it seem so much more approachable! With making stuff with clay, I've never even thought about using tinfoil to bulk out the shape, then add clay to that, plus the ingenuity of how you made the joints was rad. So much to learn!!!

oh she's so cute!!! your other dolls look incredible too. I'd love to try making my own bjd someday but it seems really... planning intensive, which is not my forte, lol. i didn't even notice the head size discrepancy. also, i think yarn hair brushed out works really well for a pony doll- it's not the traditional silky shiny nylon you see on store shelves, but it gives me a more pastoral air, like I'd really see her playing with friends out in the fields. definitely subscribing. Cos Clay is better for thin bits of clay. I'm not saying, hollow either. Just thin in general. And when I say thin, I mean VERY, thin. Good for tails, wings, and small tentacles. It's also one of the clay you want to use dry and you smooth it after you bake it or you use isopropyl alcohol to help smooth it.

I saw this video on my recommendation page right as it refreshed. I felt so sad as I tried desperately to find it again - didn't have the name saved to my memory so I couldn't search it. Thank whatever god is watching for letting it fall back into my lap, aka my recommendation page again. 😂

@@art-eroflore I genuinely thought this video was by a big creator like Dollightful so imagine my surprise when it doesn't have as many likes as I believe it deserves. Not only did you make a model for others to use but you informed me about these cutes little ponies that will no doubtedly become my next hyperfixation. You've certainly earned my subscription and I hope you get the attention your beautifully made video deserves 😍😊

I really, really want to make BJDs via 3D printing. I feel like I've waited my whole life for this technology. There was a lady on IG that I watched who had a very similar pony doll design. I backed her Kickstarter, but it didn't earn enough. If you wanted to take this to Kickstarter, I'd be happy to provide some swanky graphics as part of a collaboration, and to learn more about doing this myself. And an anthro horse doll BJD? Yes please!

I've become really interested in the more anthro and unique bjds, 3D printing has made those so much more accessible but due to lack of access im still kind of limited for now! I'd be interested to know about that project, I know some other people have printed takaras (while I was working on my video, RetroGeek Crafts came out with a scanned takara) I have the little takara files provided for free and I'll probably put the big takara online for free or relatively cheap (assuming I can test it). I'm afraid I don't know much about kickstarters or the logistics of getting this sort of stuff 3D printed on a large scale. I'd need to test the design a bunch too to make sure it worked properly before I could offer it to people for money!

anthro pony proto is a lil uncanny, tbh but a very good idea n will b great w more progress. i think it will get lots of attention. if you r able to print some, it would be fun to see some doll customizers on yt customize it in different ways!

The ball joint version looks like it needs a letter more fleshing out, but it's a great start! It's just the top/upper torso part that feels off to me, but it may just be me 😂

ngl I made her butt and chest smaller after watching the playback and realizing it looked too exagerrated; it's hard to keep the chibi body of the little ones but also make a big character LOL. I'll keep trying though, she's not done yet!

It's really cool to see your works on the Takara dolls including the less chibi version I found out about the Takara dolls by chance(I forgot where) & was hoping to find one online but given what you said I can see why I struggled to find any. I don't own a 3D printer but it'd be cool to make one with the 3D printer model one day.(Maybe a pony version of my fursona with his kid since there's a baby version just to try things out) These are all pretty cute & man there is a lot of work that goes into this, I knew that already but it still amazes me.

I only learned about the takaras last year and they are super niche! One thing I forgot to mention (or didn't know at the time, idk) was that HQG1C produces takara baby replicas, they're an MLP fan project that makes g1 toys.

Hi! You don’t need to retopo for 3d printing. You can add the balls using booleans :)
@art-eroflore
@art-eroflore 5 ай бұрын
This here is true and something I didn't know when I started cause I began by making 3D models for games/animation. But I still try and retopologize things because it makes editing pieces a lot easier. So I have a sculpt mesh where I use booleans for the holes and then a separate, cleaner mesh so I can edit slightly and more precisely.

I'd like to test it before selling it if it comes to that, hopefully... I do plan on adding a less curvy variation (I actually already made the base one less curvy, this footage is from a while ago); but one with a flat chest as well.
