The Italian Muscle body Joes were put out by Polistil. Also the European Muscle bodies are a bit different than the American ones, so on the shoulder rebuild you need to grind the excess plastic inside to fit the replacement shoulder joint into the body. The US versions don't require this.

Bought the German soldier as someone for my Indiana Jones-figure to fight. The high quality of the figure has convinced me to get some of the other ones, especially the WWII-line.

I think some of the Takara figures after Henshin Cyborg that Ace mentioned are actually called "Android Ace." Some people just call them "Android A" but the "A" is like the Ace on a deck of cards. (It even says "Ace" smaller on the package). Ace should definitely have a GI Joe descendent named Ace. :)

The coarse material on canteen covers and other accessories was NOT necessarily first issue. Thje Coarse weave material was simply made in Hong Kong. The finer weave materials were made in Japan. I have proven this with sealed packages.

The reason the Joe faces changed from heavy eyeliner to more normal eye paint is simple. The original Joe faces were painted by hand in Hong Kong. The later faces made in U.S.A. Pawtucket, RI were spray painted using a mask/stencil so that all of the faces would look the same.

Interesting stuff. I have a lot of vintage accessories, but I never paid much attention to which ones were early issue or not. From your examples here, I don't think I have any of those early issues. Regarding knockoffs mentioned at the end, I know I have some of those. Even as a kid I had some because they were a whole lot cheaper than authentic Hasbro, and I didn't have much money as a kid. . But some of the knockoff accessories were pretty cool, as there were some that Hasbro never made.

Great discussion 👍🏼 the other difference of these euro musclebodies with US mb joes aside from skin tone is the plastic itself, the euro joes seem to be made of a thinner or weaker plastic. Also, the feet difference is not just the flat bottom or the missing notch but the very sculpt itself, they seem to be like the vintage small feet but flat.

It is said that based on catalogs and ads, the first anime head Takara Joes came out in 1970, followed by the henshin cyborgs in 1972. Also, this first generation Takara Joes were called "New" GI Joe because the japanese word for New appears on the box. The later 80s Takara were the ones called Combat Joe

Excited to have my Super Joe back!! The only thing I don’t like is the body doesn’t have the muscular sculp of the old ones. The original was anatomically correct, almost Big Jim like. The legs look like he has been starved. Small price to pay. Thanks White Elephant.

Awesome vid, learned a lot about Action Man. One thing to note as well, is that apparently Palitoy borrowed quite a bit of stock from Hasbro Canada in the startup, and this is evident in the amount of Hasbro Canada stamped figures, along with mixed Palitoy/Hasbro Canada figures. On that note, I’m curious if Palitoy got their molds for production from Canada or USA? The butt on the Palitoy has the same “X” pattern as the Hasbro Canada molds. Looking forward to the Bob Bryn GI JOE book.

Hi guys really great video I have a theory about the raccoon eyes when action and gi joe were filmed in the 1960’s they were in black and white so these figures for filming had the eyes accentuated for film so they could been seen properly early action adverts even had painted looks left or right so I think that’s the answer to the raccoon eyes have a look and see for your selves

Funny fact: Mountie boots are actually burgundy so none of the Joe variations are correct. I traded my Mountie set years ago. Kind of wish I hadn't. 😉

Simpson Sears released the Hasbro Canada Mountie Gift set in 1966. It was a Canadian exclusive. It came in a corrugated box, with and without front litho. The Mountie was also released in Canada as the "Action Men of the World" window box set with a brown rifle (without brown medic pouch, radio, mess kit and knife). The stetson is stamped Hasbro Japan and is a thick plastic that is not opaque. The third and final release in Canada of the Mountie was in 1976. Hasbro Canada worked with European licensee Schildkrot in Germany to release window boxes for the Canadian Mountie, Wild West Indian, Wild West Cowboy and Polar Explorer. The stetson for this release is brittle and somewhat opaque. No coffin box was ever released for the Mountie.

I recently bought a Mountie set for $500. He is Hasbrough Joe. He came with a long Sam Browne belt and Brutis. There is a guy on ebay who makes gloves and I bought a set for him. I also have the Brittish made Mountie. His face sculpt is quite different and the hand sculpt is round. I live in Austin so I am a fellow Texan.

Being English, where these uniforms were staples of the Action-man range for many years, I'm genuinely surprised to find oit these weren't popular in the United States. The UK market got a U.S. Green Beret instead of the Japanese soldier, French Foraign Legionair outfit was later added to the range.

The prices for parts on the GI Joe or Action Man RCMP sets are pretty high, likely due to scarcity. I eventually got pieces from the Dragon "John Steele" RCMP set and used a Cotswold hat. I have still not found dark brown boots that I am happy with, and I need a black horse for him.
