High - Five Kevin! This is by far the best KZbin video I have watched in my 25 years of existence. Honestly because I have been feeling lost in my design journey. I have been a generalist, starting from contextual enquiries on field to building prototypes; I have done everything. But, I've always felt that the work hasn't seen my full potential since I'm juggling between wearing so many hats. This video is the reminder of why I actually started this journey and now, I'm on my way to become the badass UX leader. If you ever see me as a part of building something so impactful, know that its only and only because of you! Mad Love! :D

@ Yes, a detailed video on secondary research with the help of AI tools to research and to analyse would be very helpful, if I want to validate any problem statement, if I could answer if it’s even worth to do primary research or continue building a product. How much information can we actually get through secondary research and how you conduct your secondary research.

UXR laid off a year ago here. I'm wondering if your course would help me Kevin. Is there a portfolio building element? Backstory: I took some time to process, deal with other things. I still keep in touch with my original team and have glowing letters of recommendation from everyone. Unfortunately, it was my first fulltime UXR job which left me with a fragmented portfolio because I did all the work leading up to the study, and as soon as I was laid off they ran my work and didn't do anything with the results and are unable to share more than a few sentences with me about how they went. I know the job market is rough right now, but I feel like my portfolio lacking isn't helping. It's an odd place to be because I don't know if a masters degree would help to pad out my portfolio and allow some time to pass, or if that's a waste of money and I should just...try volunteer? Would companies see that as useful? UXR is a little challenging to volunteer with at scale though. If any other UXR's have recommendations on how I can continue to grow I'd appreciate it!

@TheFairytaleLifestyle Thanks so much for sharing your story! I feel ya ;/ it's a tough market for sure. You have things you can speak to from your previous role, and that's great. Impact-wise, we can talk about potential or expected impact (even if you don't know what happened afterwards to the product). But also, feel free to shoot me an email [email protected] and we can set a time to chat and plan something out (free)! To answer your question about the class - funny enough, I am launching the careers course later this month!!! and there's a promotional discount for the launch. Love your videos. I've been thinking of transitioning from being a tenured university professor to becoming a UX researcher in the industry for a few years now, after I was introduced to this area from a former colleague of mine. I've learned a great deal from watching your videos about UX research--thank you so much! I do have a concern - my age. I am 52 years old. My concern is that I may be too old to make the transition and have a lengthy career. I have already had an initial interview with a hiring manager, and I have been invited for a panel interview. However, I have trepidation. Although I do not want to get ahead of myself, I am not sure if I should quit my tenured position and take the job if offered because I feel I am too old, and I am not sure how long my career will last as a UX researcher starting relatively late in my life. Any thoughts? Many thanks again!
@zerotoux
@zerotoux 2 ай бұрын
Hey Anonymous citizen! Thanks so much for your comment and for watching! Quitting tenure is a tough decision! I recently was on a call with someone in a similar position; someone in their late 40s, working in government with a pension, wanting to transition into UXR and wondered whether or not it was worth it to them. I asked them "why do you want to transition?" They said "I want something more now. I've done what I could in my gov't career. It's cushy, it's easy. I can sail smoothly to retirement if I wanted to, but I'm bored. UXR seems exciting." I don't know your reason for UXR, but definitely ask yourself the same. Don't think of it as "I'm giving something up" as opposed to "here's what I'm most excited about doing, even if I am 52!" Which, btw, I wouldn't call "old"; I would call "experienced"! :D It's a big question! So if you ever want to chat, you can book a time with me! calendly.com/zero-to-ux

Watching your videos as a staff researcher now is wild. I had a good time with that quiz. The whole time I was looking at the percentages like "Ewww. Never" lol. What would you say would be the ideal order for the questions you used in your example?
@zerotoux
@zerotoux 2 ай бұрын
That's a great question, Geobeene! I actually had a discussion with my group and we determined there is no "ideal" order! Why? Because it depends on our survey goals. IF the goal is to gauge people's specific feedback about the product, then we may ask the overall question last, and start with their feedback first. IF we wanted an overall impression for analytics, we might start with the overall question first, and then ask for more details later. It's tricky! Now if you were to ask me what I would do personally, if there were no goals in mind, just standalone "best practice": I personally might ask the overall satisfaction question first, just so people can dig in more later. Just like asking a scale question and then probing for qualitative info later. I figured most people have a rating in mind first and do good job explaining.
@zerotoux
@zerotoux 2 ай бұрын
what are your thoughts?
@Geobeene8
@Geobeene8 2 ай бұрын
@@zerotoux Hmm interesting, I didn’t initially think about goals of the survey impacting the approach when I stated that question. Yeah I have to say that your assessment is absolutely correct from your explanation. I tend to align with your thoughts on gauging initial thoughts on the product first and then seek out the qualitative feedback after.

I think a lot of choices are not entirely made through the functionality of the website or even the offer and price. Sometimes, users like to pay more to get less in return. For example, if your business approach breaks with the traditions of your industry. If you sell acting classes that promise to get really good at acting through a new method, customers will walk away because they don't understand what makes a great actor in the first place. They'll go for something that feels more safe. Also, if they are too lazy to invent a password for the sign up, chances are they are looking for a solution that promises minimal effort. They'd rather be less good at acting, pay more for the classes and produce less effort themselves. It can be quite complex!
