Too bad they edited the live performance in this video to remove all the crowd sounds between songs. You can't hear me screaming out songs to play (but you can on the CD of the live show :)

I’m not real keen on the slide on this one Dickeys choppy country kicks work better in my ear yes Derick is good I started doing slide at age 17 as one day it just came to me I’d use a Strat and soften the classy highs off

From a 1981 edition of the BBC's "Something Else" . The BBC recently added a compilation of Kirsty MacColl performances drawn from their archives spamming 1981 - 2000.. Amongst them there's a version of "Queen of the high teas" taken from the above set.
@mattdix13322 күн бұрын
This is actually a separate show from Something Else, Kirsty didn't perform Chip shop on the BBC show.
@PolygoneNative2 күн бұрын
@mattdix1332 She performed "chip shop" on BBC totp. I'm definitely sure I've seen footage of it somewhere.
@mattdix13322 күн бұрын
@@PolygoneNative Yes she did, 3 times - I was just commenting that you said this specific performance was from the BBC's Something Else show, which it isn't, its from Irish TV. The Something Else show had Queen of the high teas, I don't wanna play house and You can have my husband. Something Else was very close datewise to this Chip shop performance, but this performance wasn't for the BBC. :)
@PolygoneNative2 күн бұрын
@@mattdix1332 I stand corrected. The above looks like a very similar looking setup and Kirsty appears to be styled in a very similar manner to the "something else" appearance .

Great band, highly underrated, IMO on a par with REM. And Easter's guitar playing was criminally underrated as well, he is one of my top 50 favorites of all time, there is a hint of Led Zeppelin in their songs. Anecdote- Robert Plant was a huge fan of Let's Active, and in particular Mitch Easter, Plant heard a shade of Zeppelin in Easter's songs.

Husker Du certainly was the world's greatest power pop band ever these guys were never hardcore. Strictly power pop. Nothing wrong with that all their tunes are catchy. And I can't remember how many times I seen this band in Green Bay I think it was something like 75 times hey we got to hear the new records before I even recorded the new records very entertaining back in the mid-80s. Good old Northside bowl and Riverside supper club. Av rec center in union labor hall.

I am incapable of hearing this song without bursting into tears. Sometimes I lose it with just the opening chords. For me, the song is an allegory for someone who is so shut down that they cannot let someone in and end up killing any chance of making a meaningful connection.
