I don't think Tomie was ever a human. She's a species of creature. Alien or natural, not sure, but not human. The way she reproduces is similar to a flower. She attracts men (bees) and they cover themselves in her polen (body parts) and the polen goes on to help grow new flowers that attract new bees etc. Her instincts are to reproduce through mutilation. So everything she does is designed to achieve that result. Her feremones drive men mad, similar to a queen with her bees. They do her instincts' will, which is reproduction through mutulation even though she's not conciously aware of it. Tomie just does what Tomie does.

How I see it, the cars are creatures that inhabit automobiles like parasites. They hijack things like wheels and engines and what not to move about, using oil and gas and regular car things. However, in the empty parts of the car is where the organic matter lies, and this is what consumes food and deals with other things like reproduction and higher thought. Cars are born without the mechanical side, and must either find a host or build one (as their society gets more advanced). The fleshy inside however needs a car host to survive, yet it benefits this host by directing it to sources of oil and gas. The outside of the car can be modified however they want, as this is just the shell they inhabit, while the biological interior is harder to change or repair. Why they can feel pain? Perhaps their biological components are extremely sensitive, being able to feel the outside like how you would feel someone scratching your shirt. It’s hard to explain but I could go on

The bigger question is how they came to be. I feel as though when cars where invented, somehow humans inhabited them then history continued as normal, with cars and technology advancing as they have done in our timeline. I am saying that the creatures inside the cars where humans, how could they not? They share human history, language, and custom. I feel like a lot of the beginning of car society is either not touched upon or forgotten to time. How could car society evolve to how it is now before the invention in the timeline of cars? Did the beings inhabit other shells? How did they evolve so quickly to inhabit these new car bodies, given that the mechanical and biological are so intertwined? I feel like somehow some sort of I have no mouth and I must scream sort of human modification happened at the advent of car invention, perhaps done with the involvement of aliens. From then on all biological life forms, including humans, where transformed into these beings. Why? Honestly no idea

I really think the bug and cow cars point to the idea of a fully robotic ecosystem as in the Transformers franchise. I think the only explanation is that they only coincidentally resemble Earth machines and culture. The problem is the Dinoco car with Texas longhorns and the RVs operating a BBQ grill. What are they cooking? Where did those horns come from? WHAT ARE THEY COOKING?

I like your high beams theory! To tweak it a little, the way I like to think about it is that using your high beams can mean different things in different contexts, like the officer shining the high beams while yelling could mean that you might be in big trouble, but in the context with the twins, it’s sexual! Or if someone want to tell a story they may use their high beams as an exaggerated gesture like we would with our hands or something. I like to think about it like that :)

It's a very interesting video, but I disagree about the decease. I think it's a curse, a curse of thia specific space. And it comes from the ancient spiral city beneath it. I think the city carves the human sacrifice every few hundred yeas and the curse manifests itself. I like a lot your point about obsession and depression, I think curse prospers on these people, they are furst to succumb. I think Shuichi is, yes, a psychic that can see the curse and is resistant to it somehow, but while Shuichi is an exception, Kirie is resistant because of her character and that bouncy optimistic nature.

People often go crazy when working alone at lighthouses. The reason the go crazy is often chalked up to the intense isolation of such a job, but that isnt the whole of it. The other half of the insanity is caused by: Mercury!!!! The lights of light houses are usually made with murcury and murcury is not good for human consumption or to be Around for extended periods of time.

i view Tomie as an attempt by Junji Ito to make a demon which represents misogyny; she is an "imperfect victim" who is a target for violence which impugns her attackers. there's never any real explanation for why she must be killed and taken apart, just vague excuses which are readily accepted. it reads as satire of reality at least as much as horror

Well to answer the question for whom the punishment was.. no one. It wasn't punishment, or a try to right wrong things. The curse seem to be nothing more than a manifestation of the evil around her. And yes the cursed does drive men crazy, but it didn't came from her, it came from men. And it seem like just make the evil side them stronger. Maybe even the accumulated evil and badness from all of her life. Also she is very much a reflection of her very first end. She never tries to intentionally make people go completely crazy, she is totally indifferent to it - like her teacher was. I also think she is not really human anymore. The dismembering was also her humanity being ripped apart, in a way. I don't think we should look a tomie the way you would look at her like antagonist with real agency maybe not even like a human. That would be doubly messed up, considering that the reason why she became this, was because she was treated like an object to begin with.

how are they going to use minecraft but not go into the ending where there is an existential aspect to it. where the " gods " are talking to one another. so many missed opportunities in this movie. how are y'all going to use media and not actually get meaning out of it to use to benefit the movie.

I feel like tomie is all the representation of beauty for example she just exist and people think shes flirting something that happens to a lot of pretty girls and when they dont reciprocate that love they "kill her " i interpret it as people throwing dirt to her name or reputation but she also represents those girls who step on everyone who make men and women insecure about themselves she fights with other tomies because thats what those kind of girls do they fight for the attention because they need it

tho "pinky" is always sorta overlooked... i always felt that was REALLY important that it shows Tomie can ONLY regenerate when feeding off of someone's (preferably male) negative energy... if u notice in "the boy", she looks healthier EVERY time, after she... abuses Satori... and coincidently he loses a little bit of his sanity each time as well.... justy a theory i have that i dont see anyone propose..

I dont know how you can say she did nothing wrong. You gave a ton of straw man arguments to try and justify it but no, it doesn't matter if the people around her are awful. No, it doesn't matter if she knows she won't live long. No it doesnt matter that she was extremely abused. Yeah, that's all super awful, and it's even easy to put yourself in her shoes and feel bad for her, but she did a lot of wrong things. That one really bad chapter, she did something horrible. It doesn't matter if she's just a teenager. It doesn't matter if from her perspective, she is in the right. She inarguably did something wrong. Stop justifying this kind of stuff. You don't need to justify horrible things. Once you're there, you need to realize what you're really accomplishing. Also, you are so dismissive of any argument against her. So much of it is not about her being pretty or a girl. She was wronged, horribly and she also wronged horribly. Generational trauma does not excuse itself. Her pain does not excuse her actions, and that is ultimately what you are trying to argue.

Some of my favorite horror is basic psychological horror, but what if supernatural though. It has elements of examinations of cycles of abuse, but what if it was a girl who can regenerate from little bitty bits. What kind of psyche and mentality would a being like that have? I've never heard of this series but I think I'm going to get it and read it for myself now! That's one thing you can expect from Ito. Something new. Something different.

The two sides of the coin watching this either from the point of view of a misogynistic torture porn validating shallow hatred of "women" through hatred towards Tomie, or the horror of witnessing this cycle of violence knowing Tomie is just a young teen girl being abused and killed endlessly, and being told it's all her fault, if someone says this is their favorite manga you genuinely gotta watch out for the former

With that car with her eyes inside the headlights, How would you explain the fact that there looks to be a full interior inside the car. We can clearly see a steering wheel, which means that there also must be seats, a dashboard, and maybe pedals?? How would that make sense and what would it mean for potential human existence?
