Many people make it both their job and hobby to restore cars from rusty heaps. KZbin has plenty of videos showing people bringing cars back to life from being rusted and abandoned and dead in the mud. This should technically be possible in this universe then, which means potentially car necromancy. Also if Oil is their blood, and also their food, are cars Vampires? What if they absorb the gas and oil inside of them through mucus membranes that line the gas tank and oil tank instead of having intestines, and instead they just have kidneys and liver that filter out bad oil which is then what they excrete, which means I suppose that bad oil they excrete is a urine/bile mix. Which would also mean that the gas is food and the oil is just never ending blood transfusions that also enables vampirism. Cars needing oxygen isn't weird either since engines need air to light. Maybe think of it as an engine made from biological material, where the pipes are veins with the addition of kidneys or some other unique filtering technique while gasoline is just used to keep the engine running.

Something I don’t often see people mentioning when it comes to male vs female cars in this universe is the "eyelashes". It seems to be the only noticeable difference, but it is CONSISTENT. Female cars have dark edges to their upper eyelids, almost like mascara. And I can't think of one that doesn't. I think that's the distinction, aside from what may be different where we CAN'T see it. The 'mascara' is how other cars know if they're talking to a male or a female.

I get shes trying to make sense of the things that happen in the universe, but she's looking TOO much into comparisons to people rather than cars themselves. For example, the popping/lighting headlight situation could mean different things depending on the scenario. A middle finger to a friend means something completely different to a middle finger to a random stranger. Or like in some countries shaking hands with your right hand is considered disrespectful because people wipe with their right hand, cant really compare our societal norms with literal cars. Simply put, it makes sense to them but not to us and trying to make sense of stuff like that is almost pointless. Also, you can really tell she is not familiar with cars whatsoever, not the movie but actual cars; explaining car aerodynamic physics as "Hacks and cheats" and compares them to humans getting piercings and tattoos. Aerodynamics are a real thing race teams and drivers spend millions, if not billions, of dollars on research and development to even shave a second off lap-times.. just like how a swimmer in the Olympics will shave ALL their hair to reduce drag making the more aerodynamic. Or how a professional athlete will take enhancement "chemicals" to give them more strength and stamina. I tried to be really open minded but you can really tell she is not familiar with real life cars at all and trying WAYY to hard to compare them to our societal norms.

5:50 cars in real life needs oxygen for the engine, it helps to even out the combustion of air and fuel mixture. If water travels into the air intake system and to the cylinders, it can waterlock the engine (seize). In automotive terminology , we refer it as "hydrolocking" Oxygen sensors is crucial for timing the combustion of the engine. They are located in the exhaust system where they sit next to the catalytic converter (typically 2 sensors after and before the catalytic converter) its purpose is to send data to the ECM (Engine control module), it helps the ecm to perfectly calibrate the timing on sending fuel or air to the engine cylinders. Another theory is that headlights are simply a feature that isn’t comparable 1:1. They clearly have a practical use which is being able to see at night. The security guard using them to deter cameras makes me believe that they’re some sort of social component. Much like when animals have ridiculously large appendages that are simply there to attract mates. The headlights could be another way of emotional expression which in some context could be meant to be used sexually. The guard example in real life would be like someone throwing their hand up in front of a camera. Arms aren’t inherently sexual, but some people like big arms. I see it like thatc
@oxymoreproducer Жыл бұрын
honestly the whole video got me really frustrated because at absolutely no point it has been suggested that maybe cars ain't a 1:1 of something we know already. It's like trying to fit mushroom features on a platypus, you can't, they are different living species and they do not work the same, do not bear the same features, and do not behave the same way. I was really hoping for it to be the final theory... (not mushrooms, the fact that they are not something we know). A lot of things become way easier to understand like the oil/fuel debate : maybe it's not food, drink, blood, nor pee, but something else we cannot compare it to, a sort of universal fluid system that works differently from what we know. I still liked the video though, I just think it needs a complementary one where we try to understand how it works instead of just trying to find in which of the boxes that we know it could fit.
@forkliftman3240 Жыл бұрын
@@oxymoreproducer yes, this is true. As funny as it is to point out how ridiculous and silly some scenes are when translating them literally to human terms, it’s important to first and foremost consider that a society made up of sentient vehicular organisms would function separately to ours. A very comparable example to this is the transformers. They’re obviously more humanoid in their appearance but at no point does the series try to suggest the idea that cybertronian society is identical to the human one. This is obviously because they are not only far more durable and larger than us, but because of their ability to transform. They have this strange element called energon that they use basically as their blood, but it also powers their weapons and non-living machines. And to them this is completely normal because the comparison of energon to blood ends at both being fluids that circulate through the body. But anyways, I’m getting off topic. My real point is that if you wanted to make a more “””””scientific””””” analysis of the cars you’d have to completely remove yourself from any ideas of human comparisons

Hihi. Car guy here! I got too invested in this. 2:30 Real car thing. It's a window duct. Race cars can have multiple of these. Each one is hooked to a flexible fabric hose that can be used to cool off the driver, electrical systems, heat exchangers, or other things that get hot during operation. The human equivalent would be sweat pores. They're used for temperature regulation 5:50 I'm going to heavily simplify this :D During the combustion cycle there are 4 steps: suck, squeeze, bang, blow. Basic single cylinder engine: you have a cylinder with two valves, a spray bottle nozzle, and a lighter on the outside of it all poking through the top, inward. Inside is a slightly smaller cylinder of it that can slide up and down which is connected to a metal stick below it that can go up and down. The left valve opens, the inner cylinder drops, and it sucks air in as it creates a vacuum like a syringe. The spray bottle also sprays a mist of gas at the same time. The valve closes, the spray stops, and the inner cylinder goes up, squeezing the mixture really really tight. The lighter sparks, igniting the mixture creating a bang, pushing the inner cylinder back down. The right valve then opens up and momentum carries the inner cylinder back up, blowing the exhaust gas out of the outer cylinder. The reason the car would breathe oxygen is your car can't run on gasoline alone. It needs air. Secondly, water doesn't compress. If your car breathes in water as the suck valve opens, the engine is going to stop during the squeeze part as the outer cylinder is now FULL of water. Remember that stick that I said is attached to the inner cylinder? That will bend when this happens. It's the car's equivalent of inhaling water and having a heart attack in a fraction of a second. Horrible way to die :D As for the O2 sensor joke, I giggled. XD I don't know if regular water by itself can foul those, but they are sensitive pieces of equipment and salt water absolutely will ruin them. 6:10 this is also a legit issue that happens with real cars. Oxygen starvation! If a car's computer is trying to hit a target power output, and it needs a certain amount of oxygen and fuel to make it possible, it could falter not having enough oxygen. Easiest fix is a wider bore air intake and a high flow air filter. 6:49 I like how they acknowledge that a car's alternator can keep an engine running and electronics working so long as you don't put it under too much load. Disconnecting the battery during running is strongly not advised with modern cars, but an older car like Luigi and Mater can handle the irregular voltage. 7:53 "Walking on their rims" as the van in this scene has their wheels and tires on the blet and is walking on their wheel hub assemblies (my wallet hurts seeing that). 8:51 The front wing isn't a bumper. It's a dummy expensive aerodynamic bit of carbon fiber. You ain't bumping anything with that. lol 13:26 Theory 2 is the winner. In the irl car community, you have headlights, but make the headlights pop-up headlights and suddenly you activate the neurons of every car guy in a 10 mile radius. Don't ask me why but pop up headlights are * chef kiss * minifique! Going even further, the Twins are Mazda Miatas. Specifically the NA models. The proceeding models are the NB, NC, and ND. Some people like to perform what is called a "face swap" where they take the NA front off the car and put the NB front on with its flush mount headlights like every other car, which is wrong, sacrilegious, and a crime. 15:21 Exposed suspension components. The human equivalent would be an exceptionally fit man who is comfortable being shorts and a tank top. Think stereotypical-male-lifeguard. 17:11 Hearing a sniffer test be called a colonoscopy gives this scene an entirely new horrible meaning. 18:55 The Rust Belt would kill for car bidets. Some car washes up here now have undercarriage sprayers built into touchless wash stations. Road salt in the winter is no joke. I have one of those yard water sprayers that create a fan of water that waves back and forth that I slip under my suspension a few times during the winter to rinse all the road salt off. 20:14 Yup. You got it. License plate just says what the car is, who owns it, where it belongs, and if it's road legal. VIN number however tells you EVERYTHING. The car's components bumper to bumper, where it was built, everywhere it's been registered, who all has owned it, what it was used for, all of its service records, how many wrecks it has been involved in- everything. 20:54 Grey sweatpants era. Mcqueen is done up in primer paint. 21:55 To answer your question here, yes the modifications can more than likely be undone. A lot of land speed cars are purpose built using existing platforms or guts. Tieing back to all the context of building a car, open engine surgery, and so on, i have a running headcannon that if you were to do like Superfast Matt did and take the guts out of a Honda and put it in a land speed car that is half the width and twice the length of a refrigerator, it is still that same Honda, just in a different body. 23:08 To be honest, you have to be at least a little unhinged to be a part of the lemons community. Still, the 24 Hours of Lemons is one of the most entertaining irl races out there. The uber-downforce-Miata still blows me away at how it DESTROYED the competition two years in a row. 24:22 You can put a car into a wall as many times as you want, you can blow up as many engines as you like, you can have as many parts fail over time, but if the unibody or the frame gets broken, it's a write-off. I'm not too sure how this would translate over into the cars universe as open-engine surgery is about as casual as blinking. Maybe windowing the block or spinning a rod bearing would do you in? The frame/unibody rotting through would be the equivalent of your back breaking and your spinal cord getting severed as your wire harness gets stripped out of its sockets. That'd be the only sure-fire way to kill a car. 25:41 It's common practice to start a small fire under exploration trucks in sub-zero climates to warm up the engine bay and differentials. Oil nor diesel are combustible unless subjected to stupidly high levels of heat. McQueen's paint would ripple and bubble long before his internal organs have any chance of catching fire. 25:47 Partially for comedic effect, but if you have a car indoors that isn't moving and running (dyno tests for example) you want a blower fan on them to get clean air blowing over top of the radiator so the radiator fans don't need to work as hard. Sally, however, is rear-engine, and this doesn't apply to her. 26:41 I just pretend they consume distilled water for cooling instead of antifreeze. it's a fine substitute for countries that don't see freezing temperatures, and coolant does burn off over time. Following up with that, if it's implied the elevator is full of blood, and blood is coolant, then does that mean water is also... blood? You're making me do a heckin' think and I don't like this. 33:35 The joke is multi-tiered. Part one is Pixar finally making a car the way the audience has been asking them to for years, and the second part is the French make weird-ass cars that don't conform to current styles or standards. Ever see a Renault Avantime? The Twizy? How about a Citroen DS steering wheel? That's the level of odd they've perfected. I LOVE the hermit crab theory though as it ties in perfectly with the shell-swapping theory, aging, and upgrading as you brought up earlier. It would also give a definitive way for them to die, as in the fleshy bits give up on life before the mechanical components do. Oh MAN, this was a fun thing to hyperfix on for the past two hours!

I love overanalyzing this franchise, it's absolutely nightmarish. Something I like to take into account is that Planes takes place in the same world. At one point in the first movie, Skipper says "Do I look like I was built yesterday?" suggesting that the cars and other vehicles are built and not born. Edit: Forgot about the fact that in Planes FaR, when Dusty and the firefighters enter the lodge and there are cars getting off the train, a pair are shown taking about a steam spa that "takes off 50,000 miles easy." Maybe this is similar to treatments that are supposed to make one look younger, thus hinting at mileage being an aging thing.

I always assumed Lightnings reaction of "Oh, I love being me" was in response to the fact that the Twin cars had gotten his number on their headlights. Sort of a tattoo on their "chests" showing their devotion to McQueen.
@Wh33led0ne Жыл бұрын
I believe this is probably the more correct answer to the headlights debate. They are not sexual, but 100% functional. The body guards function are similar to real body guards where they are able to let the fans get close to the star, but have only limited time to interact with them because they are so busy. The star wants to spend more time with the reporters and fans, but the body guards also double duty act as time keepers, to get the star to their next appointment. This is why the guards only react after the twins flash their devotion to Lightning, because he was getting too involved with his fans and losing track of time, and he had to hit the road right away to get to the next race track.

They probably have protection on their eyes, but the reason that they put glasses on when getting out the welders at 4:50 is because the brightness of a welder can severely damage your retinas, or go as far as make you blind. Those aren't welders, they are torches. Likely oxy-acetylene torches being that they are the torch most often used to cut metal. Eye protection for brightness isn't really needed for torches, more for just protection from flying sparks. The reason eye protection is needed for welding is due to the arc between the welding rod or welding wire and the material being welded. The electrical arc in that gap produces very intense UV light that can give your eyes essentially sunburns of a very high degree, but you will not know you've had that sunburn in your eyes until hours later, even the next day. You are basically blind for a couple of days while your eyes literally go through the sunburn process your skin does while healing. Ask me how I know...

One thing I'd like to point out is that cars in the cars univers, do IN FACT eat food. Not just gasoline. In cars 2, we see literal food in that one scene where Mater tries that wasabi that he thought was pistachio flavored icecream. Not only do we see the wasabi, but for a few seconds when Mater drives up to the sushi bar, we actually see both sushi and all the other foods that they use for it. Even for the viewers who didn't see it, Mater says pistachio icecream, which already confirms that pistachios and icecream exsist as food in their world, and in that sushi bar scene, there is MEAT seen in the glass cases that the bar employees work behind, which also confirms that cars eat meat in this universe. We could asume that the meat comes from the other vehicles in this world that represent certain animals, and if thats the case, then that also confirms that all the other vehicles that are people in this world also have meat inside of them, which are their organs.

A lot of the oddities can probably be chalked up to just how their culture works. Rather than trying to think of everything as having some kind of 1 to 1 counterpart with human cultures, it might be more accurate to think of it more like an extraterrestrial civilization that just happens to be vaguely humanlike. For instance, the specific example of pop up headlights getting treated similarly to women flashing their breasts could just be that kind of thing culturally in that specific context of use, kind of like how various different hand signs only mean certain things to certain people under certain contexts. It's not that headlights of any kind are inherently a 1 to 1 comparison to breasts or nipples, but rather that this specific usage of them is culturally treated similarly to how we would treat such a thing as flashing breasts. It's basically like the twin cars in question were flashing a hand sign that is seen in their culture as sexy and inappropriate. Basically, the point that I'm making is that their behavior towards certain things doesn't necessarily point towards certain things as being perfect comparisons to human anatomy. Rather than thinking about things like headlights as nipples or breasts, think of them as headlights that are sometimes culturally treated like how we would treat nipples or breasts but only under specific contexts that have to do with how they formed their culture. As for their anatomy itself, I'm increasingly convinced that they don't have any consistent anatomy. Rather than being mechanical or biological creatures, they are something that could not exist in our universe that exhibit traits of both but in ways that can not possibly make complete sense to us.

I think this implies some kind of deific figure or organization in car society responsible for the creation of the cars. How this "manufacturer" fits into the picture would tell us a lot about how the car society works, and would even give us hints as to how the cars themselves function. My first thought is that it refers to the AI from the Pixar Theory, but there could be any number of explanations for what Mac was referring to in this one line. This could be nothing, but I think exploring the origins of the cars would be very helpful in figuring out their anatomy.

I like the hermit crab idea. Partly because it means that the various types of intelligent being, cars, planes, boats, are all the same species, and they just have different habits. Presumably they can cross-breed, but can't easily change shells once adapted a particular type. (I wonder if they have insults based on unlikely mixed parentage? "Yo' daddy was a dinghy and yo' momma was a dirigible!") However, the scale of things is off in the drawing. They don't need giant brains, just human- or dolphin-sized would be enough. The eyes are way too big for diurnal beings that use lights in the dark, so potentially what we are seeing as giant eyeballs are actually mostly decorative features used for communication and the light-sensitive parts are much smaller, perhaps a bit larger than human eyes. In that case the decorative feature could be fairly thin and flat, possibly with some muscle or even just photochromic cells (like octopus skin). In that case the choice of the weird positioning of the eyes in the headlight position for that one car could be explained by the lack of glass (the resident didn't want to expose sensitive parts of itself to the environment, and maybe just liked creeping out other cars by being freaky) and the reactions to that weird position could come partly from a simple 'WTF' reaction to the odd placement, and maybe partly from the repulsion of seeing someone with their eye-membrane split in half (like the first time a human sees someone with a split tongue). That doesn't explain the necessity of giant glasses for vision correction. I think things like that, and like neck pillows, are purely style choices. That leads us toward a deep, weird rabbit-hole about the psychology of these creatures and their pathological need to emulate human-like behaviors and artifacts that I'm just not prepared to explore. They would need some fairly large and powerful features for moving heavy wheels and lifting the whole car body with them, but possibly these are operated with biological hydraulics, which could explain the need for large quantities of oil, the need to excrete used oil (it might become contaminated or mixed with metabolic waste products), and the embarrassment of leaking fluids. The bulk of their biological component might be some big, thick muscular sacks that hold oil that they use both to remove biological waste and to drive hydraulic actuators (possibly some actuators are fully biological, and some are mechanical extensions). This would explain why they need both food and gasoline engines (the engines would be just regular engines that they use to provide extra power). Genitalia could be internal, but accessed from below and near the rear, which would explain the slight embarrassment associated with unplanned underside views. Those who want to show off their undersides, like whats-his-name the lowrider in the first movie, would probably just have no exposed biological parts under there, so it's not really a big deal. Like seeing someone in a cheerleaders skirt maybe. That would also explain the lack of obvious external gender markers other than shading above the eyes. It might also explain the pain they sometimes experience. I'd react too if I got my bits stuck in a cactus. However, they also might grow thin membrane over their shells to provide sensation. That could help to explain why crunching a fender would be painful, but not particularly life-threatening, and also why they might need medicated ointments to treat rusty panels. Perhaps the rust irritates the membrane, and the medication helps with that, rather than the actual rust. Presumably most cars go about with no underpants for utilitarian reasons. Maybe it's hard to remove a cover to pee, so they only cover up if they are showing off their undersides frequently. This raises questions about mating behavior. Since their shells are evidently fairly tightly tied to their identities, it seems unlikely that they extract themselves to go mate. More likely they are external fertilizers, one of them lays an egg and the other inseminates it.

There was I think it was a behind the scene thing where some of the creators of the first movie was discussing one of the scenes. And if I remember correctly, one of them mentioned something along the lines of "we can't have Lightning open his door because that's where his brain would be." It's not something that was ever elaborate on in official media, but thought it was worth sharing.
@randocommando7945 Жыл бұрын
On a similar note, there's a deleted scene from Cars 1 where McQueen has his engine removed and placed in a steam roller so he can perform community service. He reacts in a horrified manner, and later Mater has his engine put into McQueen's body and messes around with it. It's then revealed that this was a nightmare, and the empty steamroller was never touched. This would imply that engines act as the human equivalent of the brain, but I can understand why it wasn't mentioned in the video, since it never made it into the final film or was acknowledged in other media, essentially being non-canon. In fact, the existence of cartoonishly large brains in Cars on the Road seems to disprove the engine being the brain.

I'm not a professional mechanic, but I've had a few project cars and done a lot of restoration work, and I have a few thoughts on the death and disease section. The racecars crashing and still being able to be repaired makes sense because most racecars have a tube frame chassis, basically a skeleton that body panels are bolted on to. Body panels can easily be replaced and the tube frame can be bent back into place, or have sections entirely replaced. The best comparison I can think of to having the tube frame repaired would be like treating a broken bone. The older racecar (I forget his name) would most likely have a body on frame chassis similar to a truck, the structural part of the vehicle (the frame) and the body are two entirely separate parts. The frame is kind of like a ladder laying flat with the body mounted on top of it. The frame could be repaired or replaced and the body panels could be replaced but it would be more complicated than repairing a tube frame. More like a hip replacement rather than fixing a broken bone. New cars use a unibody chassis combining the frame and body into one unit. Repairing these vehicles after a serious accident is a lot of work and can be very complicated, requiring damaged sections to be cut out and welded back in. Mechanics that can do this well are often masters of their craft or dedicated hobbyists and would be the equivalent or neurosurgeons in the 'cars universe'. New cars are usually "written off" after a bad accident due to the time and cost needed to repair them.

My views on a few things like attraction are a little different. The fact sally was into the open wheels shows attraction to engineering, also shown with the hydraulics being a sudo engineering advancement for a car. I think the cars are not crabs or people but they are in a universe where life is just cars. Drinking and leaking oil seems kinda normal when you look at it as just how life is for them. As for how they age i think its a combo of miles, time, and upkeep. Growing and birth i think you described great with the robots reference, its just at certain points to become an adult car you need to leave your teenage bodykit behind so you can fit in the adult infrastructure. One thing you didnt look at is the infrastructure of the world. Seeing as a younger car wouldnt fit well in most places we see adult cars it just fits with the theme. Also the parents might not get to choose gender, it may be up to the first engine start like if it starts and keeps going or needs to start again to stay running. Oil and gas are like food and drinks i guess but very basic ones, some cars even try to spice it up by making it a certain way. It might be an old tradition while the human foods are just pleasure like candy. The fact that planes and boats exist show that parents could go to a factory and have an altered child probably for a heavy price. That or after leaving their first body kit they can choose where they want to go to. After figuring out flight and water travel i can imagine a lot of young cars wanting to leave the ground and be different. The speed mod cars are probably just like gym junkies who need that extra pump getting steroids to the point they cant wipe themselves. I actually own a book titled “Funny! Twenty-Five Years of Laughter from the Pixar Story Room” which is a compilation of various doodles of cut gags from a variety of films (the canonicity of which, is… debatable). One of these sections is cars, and it has a variety of very concerning concepts, lore wise. There’s “Car junk food” with visuals of various mechanical parts being served like food, like “rusty nut kabob” or “greasy lug nuts” or, worst of all “Hot Sludge (served in funnel)” while, on the same page, there is an image of a car getting fuel from a pump labeled “Espresso low 40”. Furthermore, there’s an image of a car looking confused at a set of footprints(!), a concept of a “nude car beach” where it’s literally just the wheel chassis with an engine and eyes, on a towel. There’s another where a car is doing the stereotypical guy-with-trenchcoat-pedalling-wares-by-opening-said-trenchcoat, where he opens his DOOR, to sell hood ornaments. But, there is two that I find the most horrifying. There are two gags that are concepts for the origins of cars. One is mostly normal, yet kind of concerning: a colossal factory with eyes, with streams of cars driving out of it, labeled “Mother of All CARS”. The other is far, far worse. It’s shown like an equation, entirely visually. I’ll try my best to describe it. “Human with bowtie + regular, non alive car + nuclear explosion = sentient car with bowtie.” This… terrifies me. I’ll leave this here. I’ve owned this book for a while, and no one seems to talk about it. It scares me.

I had no idea about that book, sounds interesting, I like the nuclear/apocalyptic theory that cars just took over after humans were wiped out. Relating to the factory thing though, in the first movie there is a picture on the wall inside the courthouse of a factory bathed in a kind of "holy light" with cars driving out of it, so that part must be canon, the factory is their creator and "god", but then you gotta wonder who built the factory? It also didn't have eyes, it's just a regular looking factory. Was a bit surprised it wasn't mentioned at all in the video.

I think that you're the closest with your headlight theory with option #3; but I think that a big thing for that one scene could be the fact that they have special "95" (McQueen's number) headlights + high beams, not just a generic white beam or other Outside of that whole... thing I think that Sally is into shoulders ? As for the oil / blood; personally I think that gas is indeed their somach contents. The bit about the vampire cars that Mater makes, makes sense as gas is what actually makes them mobile. A non-moving car is as good as dead (without a tow), so if an in-universe writer wanted to make horror, they'd make it suck your gas, since it'd be horrifying to be effectively restrained bc you can't move. For drinking oil regularly and excrement, I assume that being living cars, they like to get fresher oil regularly, rather than getting it replaced every couple thousand miles like we do in real life; them going to the bathroom at all suggests that they have a second oil pan to drain like a bladder for old oil. In real life, cars leaking oil is indeed common for aging cars, or cars that have problems. It's a sign of age or malfunction, which could be seen as a point of ridicule? As for the bidet, there is actually a good reason! The undercarrige of a car getting mud stuck to it is the most common source of rust. Cleaning out the wheel wells with pressurised water to clear it out is actually preventative maintaince.

I think this kind of analysis says a lot about how we view sentience. This isn’t the first time people have questions about “body horror” in cartoons, a very good example is the skin theory in SpongeBob. I’m personally not very disturbed by these concepts, but I’m very interested in the fact that they cause disturbance in so many people. We directly associate sentience with humanity, therefore a sentient car taking it’s wheels off is equivalent of a human taking their arms and legs off. But they aren’t humans. We only find that disturbing because we compare how their bodies function to how our bodies function on the mere basis that they’re sentient and share a few physical characteristics with us, since they’re cartoon characters. We try to apply our logic to worlds where it’s impossible to apply. I don’t know what to think of this phenomenon exactly, I just think it’s interesting. Why don’t we apply the same logic with cartoon physics and slapstick? So many cartoon characters go through deadly situations and stay alive and well, and we don’t question it. However, when live-action media uses cartoon physics, I’ve seen a lot of people questioning it, because it’s so visually close to us. It’s kind of beautiful even, really shows how evolution made us relate to our own humanity and others’ on a deep level.
@snaildad193 Жыл бұрын
This is the best comment on this video. Every time someone questions Cars or the Robots movie they mentioned in this video, they inevitably bring up analogies to human anatomy, which I don't think is fair for the analysis. It reminds me of people in space exploration and astronomy fields searching for life in the universe by trying to find Earth-like planets, when it's possible that there could be life even within our solar system that simply doesn't need an Earth-like environment to survive. But like you said, empathy is in our nature; we search for ourselves within things alien to us in order to find common ground and understanding. If we hadn't, the human race wouldn't've survived this long
@demete1230 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking about this as well. I love the in-depth analysis of how this car universe could rationally work, but I think that applying human-based logic is not the best way to do it, because as a result it gets confusing that things don't work like an actual biological animal would. Like for the question, "Why do they need both oil and gas? Which one is food and which one is blood?", I think the answer is just that neither is blood nor food. They just need both, because its the logic of their universe. Similarly to how cartoon physics work, as you pointed out, it's just a different logic. Ultimately, everyone knows these are just cartoon characters and that none of these scientifc reasoning were intented by the creators. It's still fun to do however, but I think that we should reason with in-universe explanations and just accept things for how they are sometimes.

Plus any replacement parts also need to fit together with the old parts as well.

I hate that you made this captivating enough to watch, and that you've made me see what McQueen Monster you created. Truly Cursed. Great work.

In response to your proposed reasoning for the behaviors relating to headlights and lightbars: I propose that the headlight behavior is analogous to behaviors of birds displaying their plumage - mate selection or intimidation. It's not just human breasts used for mate selection, other species have their own physical characteristics that tend to feature in courtship. An exisitng part of the body gets functions behaviorally; mutations to the overall gross morphology have a large chance of being deleterious while behavior changes might not even be relevant in the first generation after gaining the trait. On top of that behavior has memetic transfer rather than just genetic, which can compound and drive the genetic selection - The local population gains the meme "Show feathers to look as big as possible" and then you have a selection pressure favoring larger feathers. A simple example of this would be scavenger animals learning human trash is a good source of food and passing that behavior to others of their species. The previous function of the body part is retained, in birds the wings provide locomotion, in cars the headlights provide improved perception during the nighttime. i.e. They're just lamps from a functional perspective, but have additional behaviors associated with them from complex messy cultural factors that don't have to be sensible to remain in place.
