Only listened to the beginning. Another Catholic apologist turning things upside down. I was really hoping for a good discussion but your opening statement is really saying something like: "Because you don't agree with me, you are being divisive. Therefore you are bad." When Jesus said "this is my body", is it POSSIBLE that it was an allegory? Think about that for a moment. Don't just dismiss it in your mind. If you read the scriptures relevant to that verse, it is very reasonable to see it as an allegory. OK, you take it literally but I most certainly don't. There are a lot of types and shadows about bread and food and the word and so on surrounding that passage. They clearly show me that it is an allegory. If I was to bend to your belief system and see it as literal I would be going against my own conscience. So why do you make me bad for having a different understanding to you? I don't see you as bad. I think you are wrong and somewhat brainwashed by Catholic thought but I don't think you are bad. I'm not calling you "divisive". I respect your convictions and I have no reason to fight with you. How about doing the same for the Protestants? Some things in scripture are not entirely clear. And that's OK. Why not accept that instead of bashing the protestants? Bury the hatchet. There are some things that we will never understand in this lifetime. Disunity comes when we choose 1 side of the fence over something that is not clear and throw rocks at the guy on the other side. You can keep on shooting or you can say "OK, the issue is unclear". I can do that and we can shake hands and be brothers. That is what unity is all about.

@robin...: It would appear that you view the words, "...this is my body...my blood..." as symbolic only. What evidence is there that Christians of the first or second centuries would agree with you? How about the fifth century? The tenth, twelfth? Is it POSSIBLE that every Christian accepted Our Lord's words at face value? Do you have any evidence that they did not? Would the Holy Ghost allow Christians to be misled (lied to) for fifteen hundred years before the Protestant 'reformers' finally saw the 'truth'? If this literal interpretation of the Sacred Scripture was not acceptable to all Christians, then there must be documentation somewhere to that effect. Somebody must have written, taught, preached this during those fifteen hundred years. But where ? I'll go along with Flannery O'Connor, who said, "If it's just symbolic then to hell with it!"

Metropolitan Kallistos Ware of blessed memory, used a handy little catchphrase: "ALL are priests, SOME are priests, and ONE is priest" i.e. ALL baptised Christians fulfil a priestly function in the world, e.g standing before God in intercessory prayer for family, friends, church, community and world etc.... SOME Christians are called out from among the ALL to serve in the church, administering the Sacred Mysteries, and ONE is priest, i.e. Jesus Christ, our Great High Priest, from whom all other forms of priesthood receive their efficacy and validity.

I think what you mean to say is that at the Fourth Lateran Council in 1215, for the first time the Church dogmatically used the term "transubstantiation" as the correct term to describe the conversion of the bread and wine to the Body and Blood of Christ. But there is a consistent and persistent witness in the Church Fathers right through the medieval age of a conviction that the bread/wine became the Body/Blood by the power of the Holy Spirit through the prayers of consecration. Think of it like this: At the Council of Nicea in 325, the Church for the first time dogmatically defined Jesus as "consubstantial" with the Father. But the Church did not invent that belief in 325 - the conviction is centuries older. But when the need arose to carefully and dogmatically define what we believe to be the true nature of Christ, the Church used that term. That is the same thing that happens in nearly every ecumenical council, including Lateran IV in 1215. I hope that helps.

Gen. 14:18 - this is the first time that the word “priest” is used in Old Testament. Melchizedek is both a priest and a king and he offers a bread and wine sacrifice to God. Psalm 76:2 - Melchizedek is the king of Salem. Salem is the future Jeru-salem where Jesus, the eternal priest and king, established his new Kingdom and the Eucharistic sacrifice which He offered under the appearance of bread and wine.

@NuLeif James Chapter 2 Speaks about the Profitability a Believer’s Faith! “What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” ‭‭James‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬-‭26‬ ‭KJV‬‬ This speaks of the Profitability of our Faith not the Justification of our Faith!

The "reform" was far from the first assault on the Holy Eucharist. 500 years earlier, the divisive spirit which incited Berengarius of Tours to deny the Eucharist and demand bible alone was simply recycled in Luther. Berengarius reluctantly repented just before death. Luther's ego would not allow him to repent. Luther diluted the Eucharist, while Zwingli dissolved it completely and Calvin decided to split the difference. 1 John 4:3. At last someone is listening to what I have been saying for a long time. We come from the one loaf, Christ, on the grounds of His dying on the cross for us. When we break the loaf and share, we are proclaiming Christ's death as the means of us being part of the Body of Christ. He is the Head of the Body in Heaven, and we are members of that Body here on earth. The feast is a remembrance of the one who died, the Lord Jesus Christ, and a testimony or proclamation that we love Him and belong to Him. There are many assemblies of believers who remember Christ on the Lord's day, but only one Church, no matter where you are. The Roman Catholic church is NOT that church, and no individual 'church' is.

We as catholics believe that God created us in order for Him to comunicate His Love and to be loved and glorified outside of Himself. This may be a fancy way to say that He created us for Himself. In His divine will to comunicate His love, what could be definitive way of doing so? Well, it would be by giving Himself to us, knowing that He is Charity Itself. This reality begins here on this life, by the very Sacrament he instituted: the Holy Eucharist. By material signs of a consecrated bread and wine, of eating and drinking it, we take part in a reality that will last for all eternity in Heaven: to be void of ourselves all else and to be filled with the Most High. To expect the eternal life to be like an eternal picnic in the woods among snakes and lions is to miss the point completely.

*Everyone can see Roman religion is a false religion. Only RCs could not. 95% of RC doctrines and 95% of RC clergies did not come from God's Word. Why would a true religion have such statistics?* 1. Catholics say Mary was forever virgin. Yet Bible says Jesus had brothers and sisters. Mary was not perpetually virgin. Mk 6:3, Mat 13:55, Mat 27:56, Mar 6:3, Mar 15:40, Mar 15:47. 2. Catholics say clergies must be celibate. Yet BIBLE says Peter (supposed R Church first leader) had mother in law. Bible says celibacy is not a qualification for clergies. Mat 8:14-15, Mar 1:30-31, Luk 4:38-39. 3. Catholics say Mary was sinless. But Bible says Mary offered a sinner's offering. She was a sinner. Bible says Mary needed a Saviour. Lk 2:23-24, Lev 12:6-8, Rom 3:10. 4. Catholics say confess to R priests in a box. BIBLE says nothing about confessing to priests in a box. Bible says confess to God only. 1 John 1:9, Mat 6, Romans 10:9-10. 5. Catholics say drink of the physical blood of Jesus. Yet OT and NT both say do not drink blood. Acts 15, Lev 7:26. 6. Catholics say pray to passed on Mary and "saints". Yet Bible says do not contact the dead. NT Church did not record a single case of NT believers asking passed on saints to pray for them. Deut 18:11, Isaiah 8:19. 7. Catholics make and bow down to statues. Bible says do not bow down to graven images (statues). Deut 4, Exo 20:4-5. 8. Catholics sprinkles “holy water”. But NT Church of the Bible mentioned nothing about “holy water”. There was no record of any Apostles sprinkling “holy water” on believers. Catholics claimed “holy water” came from OT. Yet Num 5:17 says “holy water” was water used to test adulterous women in OT temple. Hardly the same. Those were for Old Covenant Jews. Not New Testament Christians. 9. Catholics say Peter was pope - bishop of all bishops. Yet Bible says Peter was just a leader of the Jerusalem Church. Bible says nothing of the office of bishop of bishops. Gal 2:9, Mat 16:18. 10. Catholics say there is a seat of Peter. Yet BIBLE says nothing about it. Jesus said “not to lord over others”. 11. Catholics has clergy priesthood. Bible says clergy priesthood was done away with in New Testament. There is no clergy priesthood in NT. Heb 7:27, 9:12, 10:10. 12. Catholics preaches Works Salvation (faith + good works + partake R sacraments + submit to R pontiff + be in R Church + devote to Mary = to be saved). Yet Bible says “believe in Jesus to be saved”. Bible says Works Salvation is cursed. Gal 1:8-9. Acts 16:30-31, John 3:16, Romans 10:9-10. 13. Catholics says they must do Penance to atone for their sins. Yet Bible says repent, confess and sins will be forgiven. Catholic Bible changes the word “repentance” in NT into “penance”. Original Greek NT does not use or mean the word penance. Penance = work to atone for sins. Repentance = change of heart. 1 John 1:9, Mat 6. 14. Catholics say Mary went straight to heaven without dying. Yet Bible says nothing about it. 15. Catholics say Islam and Christianity have the same God. Yet Islam doesn't believe in death and resurrection of Jesus and Trinity.

So you have a somewhat truth and then a complete lie. God has sent proof of the righteousness of the Catholic Church. I will point to 3: 1) during WW2, a group of German Catholic priests survived the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan. The lived 8 blocks from the drop zone. They SURVIVED an atomic bomb. They did not even get radiation poisoning and died of old age. Explain this. 2) Incorruptible bodies (organic) of several saints over centuries. Including recent Pope St. John Paul II, the first African-American nun St. Wilhemina Lancaster and St. Padre Pio. Their bodies do not decompose - natuarally. They prayed to Mary all throughout their lives - they did not worship Mary or the saints. There is physical proof here on earth of their sainthood. Explain this. 3) The tilma of the Virgin Mary, from OL of Guafalupe, that material disintegrates within a couple of decades, here it still stands nearly 500 years later. Their are other miraculous details... like the picture having the temperature of the human body. 9-10 million Aztecs were converted to Catholicism. The Trinity made Mary Queen of Heaven. But we do not worship her or the saints. You are bearing false witness on Catholics and judging us. Matt 7 :1-5; Luke 6 :37 and James 4: 11-12 Explain this. All Protestant leaders from the "Reformation" were not prophets. NONE of them had any miracles or signs they were prophets from God. These were all ex-Catholics that were ex-communicated. Martin Luther had made vows to God which he broke, he married a nun that also broke her vows. Following Protestantism is mostly following disobedience. Now there could be innocent people that did their very best to follow Christ and God will know their hearts... but there will be very, very few. However, pretty soon God will give an opportunity to repent - it is called The Warning or the Illumination of Conscience. Many, many, many Protestants will realize that the Catholic Church was the true Church all along and will rejoin us. There will be some that will not convert, but hopefully most will. This is soon to happen. See Garabandal or the Illumination of Conscience. This will be the greatest miracle seen on earth ever. Time will stand still. All humans above the age of 7 will go through this event.

He not only died he was raised from the dead. Peter himself preached same. He is sitting on the right hand of power. And without his ascension no promise of the holy spirit. Show scripture of any apostle having the power to change the Eucharist into his own flesh and blood.

What about the Jewish interpretation of their Messiah is jesus. It's all about the predestination of God our true father of our salvation. God is God apostle Paul said so, did Paul consult a magisterium like you describe. Read epistle of Romans chapter 8 v 30.-31. who is going to challenge that your magisterium or pope's. God knows his own.

Wait! But didn’t Paul had to go to Jerusalem and meet with the “pillars”, Peter (Cephas) , John and James to let THEM decide as the Magisterium, what to do about the judaizers!?! Wasn’t he made an Apostle by the laying of hands and baptism of Ananias? Seems Paul was in line with them and their leadership. (Gal. 2:9, Acts. 15).

Ok here is a brief actual history of the canon of scripture. Right from the start there was widespread disagreements about books. Marcion put together the first canon list sometime around 145 AD. It consisted of ten Pauline epistles and a redacted version of Luke's Gospel. For the next 200 years lists of books came and went, including many, many of the books considered non-canonical today. They were regularly used in worship depending on the geographic location. For instance Jerome used the now lost non-canonical Gospel of the Hebrews in his Vulgate translation. The Epistle of Barnabas and the Shepherd of Hermas are found in the Codex Sinaiticus. The Catholic Church doctrine of the perpetual virginity of Mary comes directly from the Gospel of James. The concept of the martyrdom and crucifixion of Peter comes directly from the Acts of Peter. The earliest complete manuscript of ANY canonical gospel is in the Codex Sinaiticus, from the 4th Century, though of course there are fragments before that. The oldest complete copy of the Gospel of Thomas, extremely important to the Egyptian Church, was found at Nag Hammadi, and is the same age as the Codex Sinaiticus. A copy of the Gospel of Judas was just found 20 years ago. So there was never at any point in the last 2,000 years just one type of Christianity and there was never just one set of canon books until the 5th Century.

So the Holy Spirit had no involvement in the final canon? What we have now is thanks to the Holy Spirit guiding man in all the confusion that was widespread during those early years of the young Church. Just because there were other texts circulating around back then doesn’t mean they were inspired by God. Satan was hard at work back then as he was during the Protestant rebellion and still to this day. What we now have as the Catholic bible is what God wanted us to have for this long. Otherwise, where is God then and Jesus’s promise that the gates of hell wouldn’t prevail against his Church?

@@CoreyJason "So the Holy Spirit had no involvement in the final canon?" No, but of course everyone who write or edits a holy book claims to have been inspired by God. "Just because there were other texts circulating around back then doesn’t mean they were inspired by God." The winners decide who was inspired and not, just like writing the history books. "Satan was hard at work back then as he was during the Protestant rebellion and still to this day" I'm fine with you believing that. I just deal with history. "What we now have as the Catholic bible is what God wanted us to have for this long. " Well it's a book written solely about Jews and mostly BY Jews, so that's a hard sell. "Otherwise, where is God then and Jesus’s promise that the gates of hell wouldn’t prevail against his Church?" The word "ekklesia" cannot be translated as church, since neither the building-type, nor the organization-type, nor even the English language itself existed in the time of Jesus. To a Greek, the word would have meant a civic assembly. To a Judean it would have meant a synagogue. Thank you for the reply.

And then we have a major problem with the Novus Ordo. Which is more a less a rejection of Roman Catholicism and is a new sect of Christianity (We’ll 60 years old now) calling itself Roman Catholic but its dogma and liturgy are not Roman Catholic. In the new rite everything was changed abruptly to the new rite and the old (Ronald Knox Church) was thrown out for this new not Catholic rite.
