Hello Courtney, I'm waiting for my approval to sit for the exam, and I won't start my job until August. So I have most of the Summer to study for the exam, probably beginning with FAR first, how many hours a day (Sun-Sat) should I study?
@TheAccountingStruggle
@TheAccountingStruggle 2 ай бұрын
I would recommend studying frequently throughout the day in multiple sessions as opposed to marathon study sessions. Study on your lunch breaks, in between chores, etc. so basically all day but with short breaks in between

Hey Courtney. I had a question. If I get my experience with public accounting, would I be able to find contract work during the busy season ? I've read that there is a lot of contract work during busy seasons for both tax and audit. So I could work Jan-Apr and make a good chunk of money.

I’ve known and worked with both CPAs and EAs and I would say that, by and large, CPAs are more polished and more educated. However I’ve come across many EAs that would run circles around CPAs when it comes to taxes.

Don't call us Latin X. Is the moat ridiculous thing ever. Alsoz yeah you are black...bht many of us are too and we all suffered the same fate after 1492. Don't let the media or the politicians cloud your mind with our identity. Anyways, great concept of the channel not sugar coating things. I have been thinking that if I ever opened a busienss i wanted the focus to be on helping blacks and hispanics and even pacific islander since, again,, we were all victims of 1492. But the moment we want to focus on ourselves or each other we are called racist and other bs. P.S I think you have a great heart caring about the image you put out. I think more ppl should be like that.

I recently had a situation happen where a colleague made a comment about my hair (passion twists). We are all remote and manager forced us to turn on our cameras without warning one day, so that everyone could “embrace their natural beauty.” Anyway, once I turned my camera on, someone made a comment saying “wow your hair got so long!” Mind you I’m the only black person in this meeting and everyone else are Caucasian females. No comments were made about their hair or appearance so I felt awkward, uncomfortable, and put on the spot. I did not appreciate that at all. I didn’t even respond.

Thank you for this video! It’s three years ago that you made this. I came across this now. I’m also in tax, and I love the challenge. But I have felt that the stress of other people has been wearing on me. This video was spot on. I don’t like the WLB but I’m thinking of taking CPA still (just because it’s been my goal for a long time) and maybe going into government or another accounting field that would allow me a proper WLB. Accounting isn’t my passion by any means but I do like it and I like learning and I pick up things quickly but my anxieties and stress levels are at an all time high.

Hi Courtney, I am so glad that you are bringing up this topic. Many refuse to discuss it and it's real. I am a mature black female that has had their license since 1998 and sad to hear that the behavior is still going on. I feel it as well but now I get it with ageism. Anyway, I want you and your black followers to look up this book and you will see how far back this goes. The book is called, "A White-Collar Profession" by Theresa A. Hammond and it discusses the struggles of African American Certified Accountants since 1921. It changed me because I was one who changed my appearance by changing the color I loved for me. However, this book gives you insight and the courage you need to strive, soar, and succeed through this behavior and realize you are a great asset to this profession as you are with all the great intelligence we have to offer in addition to the beauty of our race. It is an honor to be a black CPA.

Thanks for the info, I plan on taking mine in VA as well despite living in a meighboring state (5 mins from VA line) due to some technicalities. My question is, what if there is no licensed CPA where I go to work? For example, what if I take a job at a small factory as a cost accountant, but there are no licensed CPAs working in the accounting department? Does that flat out not count as experience? I saw that the AICPA website was offering a service where a CPA verify your work for you, but it is like $700 and seems like it takes a while to get done.

The diversity in the accounting profession stretches to how broad-reaching your experience is..and how well you can fuse accountability in your everyday interactions. three things in accounting sticks out and they are assets, liabilities and ownership(equity). In your general interactions, friends can be an asset while enemies can be a liability. You might say enemies are not taking anything away from you, how are they liabilities? I'll tell you that the extra time you have to spend watching your back, the anxiety that can potentially generate a hospital bill, the payment for extra security and the payment for cleaning up your reputation after enemies must have damaged it are all liabilities. friends on the other hand can bring you happiness even if they have a financial problem, the worth of their friendship and the happy emotions you experience around them is worth more than the money spent in solving their problems. The Psychology of being the black person at work takes the company policies into consideration and how other racial counterparts behave and relate to you as the odd black person in the workspaces especially if they act contrary to policy and to your detriment. So the question now remains. Who are your friends in the workplace and who are your enemies?

My life right now. I quit my job in 2021 and had already started my business September 2020. I also do taxes. But then I also picked up a public accounting contract with a firm so I’m doubling up on my own clients and the contract with the firm. My own clients- not making enough to replace my old income. Need to restructure for sure.
