CFA v CPA:Which is Right for You?

I get so many questions regarding accounting and finance careers and I try to cover more than the CPA on this channel. In today's video I will be doing an overview of the CFA as compared to the CPA exam. There is not one credential that is better than the other as these are quite different.
The CFA is a chartered financial analyst and a highly respected title in the finance space. The CPA is a certified public accountant and it is the highest credential you can hold in accounting. While accounting and finance are not mutually exclusive, they are also pretty different. Someone looking for a career in finance may lean more towards the CFA than the CPA.
I hope that this video is helpful in providing clarity and a comparison between the CFA and the CPA.

Liked your video ! I just successfully passed my CFA level 2 .pass rates of may 2021 exams have never been so low ( ~ 25% for level 1 ; 40% for level 2 and 42% for level 3).just hope those recent rates will not be the new trend ...

It's probably due to COVID- the past year was mentally draining so I couldn't imagine studying through all that. Congrats on passing though!

You can absolutely have both. I worked with a guy who held both but he worked in finance and didn't use the CPA anymore.

Do you think being at a Big 4 experience can also tap into the required hours for the CFA?

I’m sure it could but I guess it would really depend on specifically what you’re doing at t he big 4. It may be hard to argue that tax is related in anyway but it’s worth a shot

If you have an MBA can you take the CFA without 4,000 hours?

It’s my understanding that you would still need the hours. Relevant experience needs to be work related to investment decision making process.
