Not impressed with Bubba and this is an advertisement. You will never see a fishmonger or butcher use this knife. Try Dexter Russell or many others. Bubba is junk.

I always heard you couldn’t release lakers caught in over 100 feet of water??
@calebwistad2 күн бұрын
Not true. Lake trout are one of the very few fish that can expel air from their swim bladder as they move towards the surface, thus equalizing the pressure in their system as they come up. Most fish cannot do this and suffer severe barotrauma when pulled from deep water but lakers are very uniquely equipped for quick depth changes.

I've never seen so much meat be discarded. Growing up my daddy would have whooped my butt if he caught me trimming half the fish away into the trash. Also, store bought catfish has the red areas and nobody seems to mind. Oh and never ever cut towards your hand or arm with a slimy fish. I've seen some gruesome mishaps in my time.
@calebwistad2 күн бұрын
This is not a video about how to get the most meat off a catfish. If I wanted to show that I would have cleaned and cooked it whole. It’s about getting the cleanest, mildest fillet off the fish, which lots of people prefer. And I 100% guarantee you that removing the red meat off the back of the fillet will yield a milder tasting fillet. I’m not out here trying to convince people that this is the “right way” for but it works very well for most people.

@@calebwistad I should add, my spinning reel only holds 150yds of 10lb braid, so I find it unnecessary for a backer. If your reel holds double that or amore , I would definetely fill it up with mono first to save some money.

I tried circle hooks yesterday and still had two fish swallow the hook. What am I doing wrong??
@calebwistad2 күн бұрын
I’m guessing you are using offset circle hooks. If you are using offset circle hooks there will still be some fish that get hooked deep, although not as many as with j hooks. If you use a true in-line circle hook it is very rare to hook one deep.

@@LifewithJames The true inline circles are hard to find in smaller sizes. Most of the Gamakatsus you see in the store are offset. Here is a link to some inline circles that you can get down to size #4 which should work for panfish. amzn.to/4faj1e1

Tough fish to eat really. It’s always reported there is no bones , until you eat this fish and obviously have bones as fine as hair wedged in between your teeth. Really it’s a scary fish to eat. Yes it cooks well and holds up well cooking, except it’s just a matter of time finding these bones as the people who clean them all say they are boneless, but yet mysterious bones still find a way into your mouth. I’ll pass

Rotating my walleye rods during the day and id agree if you havent tried the 68 to 76 ML xtrafast action for finesse jigging your missing out. Previous to this i had med fast rods only for jigging and that flex is not only great to feel light bites but absorbs any headshakes while keeping the fish pinned.
@calebwistad3 күн бұрын
Yes. You do sacrifice some of the fish holding characteristics by going with the extra fast but as long as you don’t horse the fish in it’s typically not a big deal.

Excellent tutorial. I messed up the first fillet of a freshly caught fish (dorado) through poor technique & wasted a lot. One question, would tweezers for the pin bones instead of a knife help retain more flesh?
@calebwistad3 күн бұрын
You can use fish tweezers and it does make a pretty clean fillet on most fish. It can be hard to pull the bones on some large fish though.
