Agreed 100% about the boomer frequency lists. I was involved in making one based on kdramas, and it was so much more relevant to what I was actually immersing in. I was already beyond the point of needing one but I could tell it was better than the basic TOPIK lists you find from the Korean government.

Not gonna lie, I almost stopped watching after this dude straight up said Spanish doesn’t feel like anything more than a collection of synonyms to English lol! It was literally one of the most ignorant things I’ve ever heard, somebody who is clearly never learned a language. He honestly should’ve just said he felt a stronger connection to Asian cultures lol. Anyway, I’m glad I stuck around because it ended up being a pretty damn good interview, like always!

i'm glad you stuck around and no hard feelings, but to clarify this was not a jab at Spanish by any stretch of the imagination. i was speaking specifically to the "difficulty level" of learning Spanish as an English native, and how i wanted a bigger challenge (new grammar, fewer loan words, etc). similarly Korean speakers have an easier time learning Japanese, and so on (there are 100s of such pairings).
