Fellow Western PA rider here. I think rails-to-trails are super boring to ride. Love those back country roads though. I'm digging the swept back handlebars on your bike. I converted my bike to swept back handlebars last year. I'm never going back to drop handlebars.

I can’t argue with that. This shop has been in business since the 50’s, and the winters typically keep people away from their bicycles… except for a select few.

Hey, I gotta twenty year old Gary Fischer Cobra that I'm trying to repair. I have to bust out the bottom bracket somehow (even getting the cranks off required a lot of propane and hammer blows). J Addams (my normal store) didn't want to touch it. I'm now looking at finding bottom bracket tools and such and I'm curious if you know much about it or a good website for reference? There are a lot of tool outlets and it is hard to know if the tools will even work with an older bottom bracket like this (thing is full metal, as far as I can tell). Hope you are doing well in the new year!!

Hi pal. Maybe a trip over to the bike coop on east 26th is in your future? They have a compliment of tools and know how that may serve you.
What front fender setup is that? They look perfect.
@EriebyCycle11 күн бұрын
That is an SKS Shockboard. It worked well for what it was but I eventually installed the full coverage fender that matched the rear and added a mud flap. I got tired of soaking the drivetrain and my shins.
@michaels992611 күн бұрын
@@EriebyCycle Okay. Thank you.

@ very welcome. The thing about the shockboard is it mounts it the hole in the forks… so you can mount it easily where you don’t have provision for a full length fender.

In thick semi soft snow, width and knobs are a great choice. Studs are only needed when you ride on ice.
@EriebyCycleАй бұрын
Here in Erie it is not uncommon to get a good heavy snow, and then it melts over a three day period- making the side streets an ice rink.
@FinnPropАй бұрын
@@EriebyCycle In southern Finland it has become similar. We just got 40cm of snow three weeks ago. Now it’s just wet ice outside. Schwalbe Marathon Winter 35-622 were pretty good today (first ride in 3 months), but if I had money to burn I would get Suomi Tyres Piikkisika or Ice Spiker set for my EMTB to get the 2.4” width.

"The idea that just a front studded tire with a belt drive and internal gear hub is enough is ridiculous around here" I feel like I was personally called out on this one haha I will admit that fat bikes have their strengths, but if you had space for only one bike, a fat bike tire is a bit too 'specialized' don't you think?
@EriebyCycleАй бұрын
I was thinking of SHIFTER when I said that. A fat bike is absolutely too specialized and teeters on the edge of useless really… but they appeal to my inner five year old… and they’re awfully stable on ice city streets.

Happy Christmas. Gone, but not forgotten. I had a two year pharmacy technician course. Had to make peace with it basically being a tickbox exercise. Mostly about passing exams. I tried to learn extra, to have proper understanding. Towards the end, I did give in and just memorize and regurgitate stuff in exams. A lot of it wasn't too relevant to the actual job. It's like you said, you learn most through experience on the job. Bit like passing your driving test.
