The thing about fat bikes, that I love the most, is they are just fun bikes, in any terrain. The second thing I like, is that you don't have to spend a ton of money to get something good, that does the job. My first fat bike, was a Framed Minnesota, about 4 years ago, and I still ride the heck out of that thing. I've bought 2 others since then, but I still ride the Minnesota. After seeing mine, my buddy bought a Mongoose Sport something or another, and he too prefers to ride it over his other bikes. If I feel like a workout, I grab my gravel bike and hammer down. Any other task, it's one of my fat bikes. Great video man! Thanks for sharing!

I hear you. This bike always brings a smile to my face when I ride it... and I hope to ride it a lot in 2024. Thanks so much for the kind words! Much appreciated.

Super glad to come across this video I've been trying to decide between a fat tire and a cheap mountain bike for winter and this convinced me. looks like a ton of fun

Thanks. It is a ton of fun, no doubt. Id say this fat bike can take the place of, and do just about anything a cheap mtb can do. One could easily argue the same in reverse of course. Here on Lake Erie Fat Bikes are starting to pop up on the used market... maybe you could score a used one on the cheap!

My thoughts exactly. Ridiculous, yet delightful at the same time.

A fat bike with 4.8" tires, and a Burley Coho XC bike trailer with the 3" wheel set, and you have a serious "get-the-h*ll-outta-here" machine if the shit hits the fan. You're out of your city/town in no time, while everyone else are stuck in traffic in their cars. Or a lot of camping and fishing gear for a long bike packing adventure.

That looks like to much fun right there! Now I want one. Lol! Snow riding is just fun no matter what, but on that bad boy it's gotta be the best! According to all the weather predictions for this winter, you're going to get all the powder you want and don't want! Lol great investment man!!

That's an AWESOME bike, I'll have to look at one next time I'm at the Shop. I think I need to save up for one with the snow amounts we get here in McKean. I had an cheap Mongoose Dolomite a bit back, but it was very heavy and was only a 7 speed. Definitely not geared low enough for deeper snow. It was fun on the frozen sand though. Keep up the great work on these terrific videos 👍❤🚲

Thanks so much my friend! I saw a Dolomite in person somewhat recently, and wondered why it seemed to be geared like a road bike. Thanks again for the kind words. Hope to see you soon.

Sweet bike and nice setup for winter commuting. I had a couple cheap fat bikes many years ago when they were first becoming a thing. They we're really fun and a novel thing at the time. With the winters we have here and the type of riding I do I couldn't justify keeping one and got rid of them.

Great vid! Love the action shot of the bottom bracket while you're rollin' along, Josh. Living vicariously through Erie's pre-Christmas snowfall. You've sold me. If I can ever get back to Erie, a fat bike's on the shopping list.

Thanks so much! I remember saying at the beginning of the pandemic that I hope to see all the fat bikes that were bought up for sale on the cheap. But this bike just fell into my lap. Maybe I could make a video based on things you’d like to see?

Thought about getting a Mongoose fat bike for work commuting but still can't convince myself to buy one. I have two old steel commuter bikes I use during the Winter months with 700X35 studded tires installed. They do an adequate job getting me to work and back on my 14-mile each way trip. I have mostly flat surface with some hills and that's where the challenge lies especially if the streets aren't plowed. Also, both bikes have twist shifters and I am beginning to detest them but since I only ride them 2-3 months out of the year, I keep them around for this reason. Here we are in December now and I've yet to make up my mind about my Winter bike. I just may change out the groupset on my mountain bike from Tourney to something better and leave it at that but who knows at this point.

My friend Heather had a mongoose that she said was very heavy, and not really geared properly for the snow. So keep that in mind. I understand your hatred of the grip shift. Not a lot of people like those. Why not leave the tourney stuff on the bike, and run it until it gives up, then replace it?

Great looking bike. May I ask, what are the width of the tires?
@EriebyCycle

Thank you, friend. Tires are 26"x 4.6. They come in a tan wall with a lower thread count, as well as the 120 tpi black walls I have here.

I've started fat bike commuting last year, here in interior BC. What I am am missing are fenders. I wonder what are your fenders and where have you got them from?
@EriebyCycle
@EriebyCycle 10 ай бұрын
I’m using Planet Bike “Big Buck” fenders. So far they seem to work pretty well. Like I mentioned, I modified the rear to work with the rack, and provide a little extra coverage. I got them at a mom and pop bike shop where I work as an intern on Saturdays… but you should be able to get them anywhere that carries Planet Bike products.

I think that would solve alot of the speed and (more) dificult pedaling issues, I threw a rear drive on one of my fat bikes and a front hub on another, defenetly think the mid drive is the best.
