Hi Steven, thanks for the video. Just to be sure , what are the cleaners to be used: dishwasher tablets and HCL diluted in water? Thanks
@StevenBTuner
@StevenBTuner 15 сағат бұрын
Hi, a strong industrial degreaser (mixed with water) can be used for the first stage, or dishwasher tabs (mixed with water) or sodium hydroxide and dishwashing liquid (mixed with water). For the 2nd stage aim for a HCl solution of around 7% if your DPF has an integrated cat, or a bit stronger if your DPF section can be cleaned seperately.

3 months ago I replaced all 5 seals with BMW original seals because of a big leak from the right intercooler hose, back side towards the turbo. Leaked on the steering rack. Left intercooler hose was leaking also on the skid plate. One week ago found out the left skid plate leak was still present. Bought a new OE BMW seal. Still leaking. Bought a new Topran seal. Still leaking. Did the PTFE tefron tale trick 2 days ago. Still leaking. I saw the scoring marks in the inside of the original intercooler. I’m thinking of buying a aftermarket new Valeo intercooler because i’m sick and tired of removing the hard intercooler pipe for the 6-7th time and still learning. I’ve done 4 turns of PTFE tape, the hard hose fitted tight to the intercooler but still leaking. 😑

Hi, I have a video specifically about how glow plug failures clog the DPF, which might be worth a watch. A lot of vehicles use the glow plugs to fine tune the exhaust gas temperature, so they can get a bit unhappy when a couple of glow plugs don't work or when the glow plug controller/relay fails.

@StevenBTuner
@StevenBTuner 8 күн бұрын
Hi, the BMW intercooler hoses are a 'work of art' and I don't think that any of the cheap replacement brands are going to be as good, but one of the more expensive brands might be a better choice. If it is the metal at each end that has corroded then there is no choice but to replace them. If it is a leak where a metal pipe connects to a flexible pipe then you can add an external clamp around the outside of the black flexible pipe to make sure it doesn't leak. If is a leak where it meets the intercooler then this video has the answer.

Hi, I haven't done that, but there is someone in the comments that did it that way, and they said that it cleared the error code. Be very sure that it is not possible to pour any liquid back into the engine, or that you pour in so much at a time that it stops all of the exhaust gases from flowing through. You can also use something like the Liqui-Moly product specifically designed for this purpose. Whatever you decide, I hope you'll report back about how it went!

Thanks for the effort in this mate. I waged chemical warfare on my cars DPF and it really didn't do anything. At one point the light went off fir half a day. The only way to clean a dpf is to remove it from the car and jet wash the inside clean. You don't need to be a mechanic to do it (depending on its placement) and you will need to do a forced regen afterwards for good measure but the problem will be done and you will save yourself a lit of money. Garages don't want to do it as its easier to replace it as it's not worth their time financially.

Good morning. I discovered this channel because an Italian guy made a video showing how to clean the fap yourself. I found it very interesting. My wife has a 2012 smart diesel with 130,000 km, and unfortunately it has always been used for short trips. Now the fap is completely clogged and the car does not go above 70km/h. We have already tried to have it washed by a specialized company, but without success. The mechanic advised me to change it, but it costs over 800 euros and first I would like to try another method. The smart has a small fap located inside the muffler, it is not separate. To do any treatment therefore you have to act on the entire muffler, which is larger than a single fap and is very "twisted" inside it. What treatment do you recommend I try? Thanks.
@StevenBTuner
@StevenBTuner 22 күн бұрын
Hi, there usually isn't much ash clogging at 130,000 kilometers, so the issue is probably soot clogging instead. With soot clogging you have to find the cause or it will keep happening again and again even after cleaning. The normal reasons for soot clogging are: a faulty EGR valve, a faulty turbocharger, faulty glow plugs or a broken glow-plug relay. If all of these systems work well then you will have to regularly add DPF cleaner to your fuel tank in order to help the soot burn off at a lower temperature - this is necessary if you only ever do short trips. All the best getting to the bottom of the issue.

The car does not work, the engine light is always on and the engine does not exceed 3,000 rpm. We have already done a washing treatment in a specialized company, but without results. Could doing a treatment at home be a solution? If so, which one do you recommend? P.S: The smart has a small Fap placed inside the muffler, it is not separate. To do any treatment you must act on the entire muffler, which is small and flattened. Thanks.

@@StevenBTuner Thanks for the comment. I realized I must have duplicated the post, I apologize. No, I don't think it's the turbo, because sometimes, when the car is off for a long time or when I reset the engine light, the car starts working properly again and the turbo works well. Unfortunately, however, this doesn't last long and after a few km the engine light comes back on and the car goes back into protection.

Hi, I haven't done it - but others in the comments have tried dissolved dishwasher tablets, and they have reported that it worked well enough to clear the error code. There is also a commercially available product made by Liqui Moly to do it that way. My feeling is that the in-place cleaning is good for 2 years or so, whereas the full removal cleaning is good for 10 years - so you have to decide which is right for you.

Im bound to do a cleaning on the missus' car DPF next weekend, and a 5 litre of brake cleaner will only set me back £20 and some change. One less acidic mix to handle was my thought. Now, we can also buy 32% acetic acid in the grocery store here in Norway, wouldn't that be an option as well? Since you had a slow but positive effects of vinegar/acetic acid.. Hi, mapping out the EGR will keep it closed, which is the position for regeneration anyway, so that shouldn't be a factor. If the physical EGR is still installed then you should visually check that it is in fact fully closed and that it is reporting that it is fully closed to a diagnostic unit.
