Jimmy Scott's phrasing is incredible. The long pauses really swing. And the band's swinging. Great piano player, Mike Kanan!

I dearly love this performance and keep returning to it. Jimmy Scott's voice requires no apologies as per his age whatsoever, and the orchestra accompanies him with can only be described as the very definition of swing! We're so lucky to have this video recording for all time!

Beautiful, Hill. I know how much Jimmy meant to you and how sad you must be. How lovely that as his music director you were there during his great come back and shared in making beautiful music in concerts and performances all over the world. I'm sure you meant a lot to him also.

I understand you perfectly. I had a similar experience playing drums for Lou Bennet at Jamboree, Barcelona, one blessed evening when his drummer did not appear. I love the moment when, near the end of Mike Kanan’s solo, the band steps in and Jimmy opens his arms in ecstasy, honoring the band and its arranger and conductor. By the way, next Thursday (March 15th, 2018) I’ll have the pleasure to listen to Mike Kanan live at Sunset Jazz Club in Girona, Catalunya. Bless the Music and the Musicians! Long life, Jimmy Scott!

Jimmy was Billie Holiday's favorite singer. He sure knows how to pull some taffy.I met him in Boston. He's very down to earth. We share the same birthday but he has a few years on me. Best male jazz vocal artist of all time.

ilovebigband, thank You, I love bigband swing and Jimmy Scott. This tune as with others of Mrs Scott, is just a lovely piece of America music. Jimmy Scott among the best singers and swing singers to have lived. Sho you right, to understand Mr Scott is to know self.

I just love Jimmy Scott. Man overflows with soul. Such a good show man. If you can check out his version of motherless child you will see a soul singer extraordinaire.

He was, and is, timeless! His phrasing, sense of swing and story-telling ability convince you that he lived the song, and he's singing it just for you. He always makes me smile (and sometimes cry at the same time)!

Must agree that greatest artists appear to recount their verymost personal self thru another’s lyrics. Scott had that quality and more. But his songs often DID reflect much turmoil. His Bravo Channel documentary fleshes out the details. As magnetic performer that ever warbled or took stage. Rare indeed.

wonderful to see the 'other' side of Jimmy Scott's fantastic sense of timing and rhythm. Famous for his powerful interpretations of ballads, here we can watch him Swing and how! And, well, if you can stand tall next to a big band sound wall, you truly are NO little man at all :-)

Forgive my ignorance. I, as well never heard of him, which is sad, because I thought I knew of all the Jazz greats. What a tragedy that he was snubbed by The Grammys'. But, that's what the Grammys' are known for; To eliminate the TRUE GREATS, and make no mention of their True contribution to the Music Industry. Very sad. , But all in the same breath, I thank them as well, for opening my eyes, to this Great Man & his Music.

Hampton band (w/Jimmy fronting the unit) only half-joking among themselves wondered if Scott wouldn't emote so heavily that the number he was singing at that moment woudn't be his last. Great, transformative privilege to have witnessed first-hand Jimmy in person (in intimate performance) and after opener not a dry eye remained in the club. This man is a singer's singer and without peer. His reissue album Lost and Found is a revelation.
