Hi would anyone know if the 550 version would have the two bolts underneath the cams as well as the 750?

Do you need to remove the engine from the frame to get to the starter clutch?

Nice! I have a 1979 KZ650D (bad shape), a 1981 KZ650 with only 13,000 miles but no Title; and a 1982 KZ750H in great shape but while riding on the highway in Arizona, United States the tensioner bolt came lose and the engine started spitting oil. I was perplexed and didn’t stopped immediately but continued for about 90 seconds as I watched the engine lose power and then it shut off. But the wheel did not lock up so I was able to push it about a mile to the next exit. Thanks to your videos I’m going to open up the top of the engine and see if it can be fixed without costing me an arm and a leg

Another idea is to use the Frame from the 1979 KZ650D and swap everything from the 1981 KZ650

I own this same motorcycle. I ran in trouble while on the open road when a bolt from the top of the engine fell out and oil started to spit out on the right side. It was my first time out on the Freeway in Southern Arizona and I did NOT stop immediately; I just kept going while trying to guess what that oil was. Keep in mind I didn’t want to stop in the middle of nowhere. So perhaps 90 seconds later the engine stopped firing but the tire didn’t cease or locked. I pushed the bike for one mile till I reached the exit ramp. Then I parked the bike outside an Elementary School. It was a small rural community. I came back a week later and loaded the bike on the back of a small Nissan Pick Up. The motorcycle has been sitting outside in the backyard since then. But I’m ready to start working on that engine. I’m the meantime I’m gonna swap the engine + carburetor from a 1981 KZ650

I am about to start this process. . Looking into a tank that has been coated before*..and sat empty after that for 6-10 yrs and yep..muchu visual rust visable in the bottom with decayed red gas that smells like turpentine.. .So I am thinking this may take some viniguar as well as some fish gravel and shake,shake, shake..for a couple of days..and then shake the fish and gravel out.. maybe a few times more..then mix the baking soda to neutralize the viniguar. .and the distilled to pull out any other stuff as a rinse until clean. .then maybe coat the tank with gas mixed with two stroke oil..or gas stabilizer. .and see how it lasts rust free..without other coatings..

I mix a small amount of baking powder in with the vinegar, it causes a fiz, and it helps blast the rust off. My tank was really bad. it's a 60 year old bike, that has not been on the road since 1990. it's working wonders. i am onto my second application. I think it will take 3 application total to clean it.

Did you have any flash rust issues after it was all said and done?
@ManiVortex3965
@ManiVortex3965 Жыл бұрын
Other people have gotten it, easiest solution is use a heat gun or blow dryer at a low setting (so it doesn't hurt the paint) to dry the inside before any rust can set in

If you put a small amount of WD-40 on the inside of each boot it will make sliding the carbs in a whole lot easier.

That is much better than the CB750 1974 that I worked on, there was no way to get that valve cover off without taking the engine off the bike.

Baking soda will neutralize vinegar, not baking powder. Soda reacts to acid and neutralizes it. Powder contains acid and alkaline together in the same mix in the form of baking soda and cream of tartar. Not sure what the neutralizing ability of baking powder would be. I do a lot of baking and am familiar with the differences between the 2.

After reading some comments: Consider, 'sealing' the tank inside, with an epoxy sealer. CASWELL brand, is best. Red Kote, cannot handle modern 'ethanol' gasoline. Follow instructions carefully, and use long rubber gloves, and a face shield.

Using de-natured alcohol (gas line antifreeze, methyl hydrate) AFTER the vinegar rinses, will remove/absorb/suck all/any moisture out of the tank. Put a litre in, shake the he** out of it, drain and let dry in hot sun, with ALL HOLES OPEN ! (i am doing a generator tank, from a 1983 Yamaha EF2800 generator- makes power, starts right up, after carb cleaned, and float set.

Commentator goes back and forth saying baking soda and baking powder. Graphics say baking powder while he is saying baking soda. Very confusing because baking soda is not baking powder. I believe baking soda is the correct substance for cleaning a tank.
