Nobody NEEDS more power. Nobody NEEDS a big cruiser motorcycle. But do we WANT it? Yes. Yes, we do.

I do like the gauge on the Sportster S and think it would look nice in a Road King. Personally Harley needs a 1000 c.c. engine making over 150 H.P. And put the Pan Am on a diet to make it a sport touring bike. Those Pan Am street bikes look like something I would buy.

Hot Rod enthusiasts want more power which is enjoyable. But do get the driveline worked out ahead of adding more power.

EXACTLY! My friends spend tons of money on their bikes. More , more. But , for me, I like cruising, not driving like a nut at 100. My. Stage 4, 80 goes 100 plus, but that is not fun. My Goldwing easily does that and feels like 60. But what if ANYTHING happens? My friends want to be like Hells Angels going 100 always. Good luck. Thank you

Around 120 hp is perfect for me. Im on a 21 RGL and I'm rarely riding solo. The 114 is enough stock, that's a true statement. Exhaust' air cleaner' cam and my thundermax has brought my bike up to my happy. A friend with a 135 can't get away from me. I'm not blowing past it but for half the investment I'm right there and in the corners I eat that street glide up. I'm not afraid of corners. Blasting thru a 25 mph corner at 50 mph on a 900 pound bike scares people. No amount of engine or suspension will give you the experience or confidence. In fact a bone stock machine is always faster in the corners in skilled hands. Im not saying I'm the best but I've noticed a trend. It seems like the most powerful bikes around me have the least skilled riders. Back to my 120hp reasoning. She pulls almost neck and neck with a big displacement engine accelerating out of the corners, as i hold a higher speed thru the next corner and accelerate out and so on I'm pulling away......... I live in an area where every road is twisties and anything faster than 100 mph is suicidal. 120hp is my zone.

I have added some modifications to my Road King Classic that has not only increased my torque and horsepower, but has immensely increased my enjoyment when riding. Speed and performance made all the difference for me and given me a new and fresh appreciation for my bike. I understand what you mean and what you're explaining in your video. Not all riders need increased torque and horsepower. Especially if they're new to motorcycling or they just don't need it. In my case I needed it.

One of the biggest reasons the c v o st is having a hard time selling is dealer markup. Every dealer around me has eight thousand the ten thousand dollar markup on that s t. That's crazy money.

I’m a new Harley rider and the more horsepower dick measuring is just insecurity to me. These bikes are already the fastest vehicle in most traffic. More power is wasted money to showboat and provides minimal real world enjoyment increase and I’m fine with my stock 96

I must say this video hurt my feelings because I was hellbent on putting a 131 on my bike but the more that I think about it and have thought about it You said something that really stuck out and that was I normally wouldn't go over 90 mph anyway and I don't keep my RPMs up past 2500 all the time and on top of that even getting it done by Harley they don't do the bottom half they don't do the cams up under the engine they only work on the top of the engine so you still would need to get the bottom done and the adjustable push rods and all that other extra stuff versus just keeping your bike well taken care of and running at the number that they have you set at I say if anything not going past the stage 2 with the fine tune will be pretty good So you talk me out of going into a stage four especially because I won't be racing I'll just be able to go fast on the highway on a straight away

I think HD is in a pickle. They can make twice as many bikes than demand calls for. They're doing that...too many bikes and too few buyers. Yea, the used market value is taking a hit. The dealers are still trying to get rid of '23 model year bikes. Heaven forbid owning one of those(like I do with a FXLRS) and look at the current resale value. Dammit, HDs are not holding their value anymore. I am interested in a recent Dyna just for fun...those are holding value. Anything Glide is cheap on the used market. There are just too many bikes out there plain and simple.

People have been chasing power for decades. The old school bikers all souped there bikes up. I built mine to 120hp and now I'm in the process of a near 150hp 124" build to upgrade power again. I left it stock/stage1 for 2 years and until I I was used to that and wanted more power

Every thing was on point. At one point I had a 114 and every weekend I was finding new ways to push myself and the power on the bike. Then I traded it in for a road glide with the 107. Even thou it’s a smaller cubic inch but I’m still finding new ways to get power without doing hard engine builds. Now I’m getting to the point on how I want to build it and slowly adding parts to push it further and efficient with each upgrade

If you can't put the power to the ground then it's worthless. With the 114 and a good cam, that's plenty of power. Suspension/breaks/tires are the only other things to worry about.

My Harley softail with a 117 is slower than a turd stuck in the mud instead of wasting money on adding power. It’s cheaper to just buy a real bike. That’s actually fast from the factory.

Thank you for sharing your thoughtful insight regarding the horsepower, torque quest that has reached a point of questionable necessity. Yes, there will always be a person or persons that pursue the ultimate suicide murder cycle and that is cool for those that choose these ultimate customization. You are correct to say that most bikes are providing enough engine and thrill factor to make most pucker! I also admire that you suggested mastery of skills recommending slow speed maneuvers / practice. Personally, I own a screaming Eagle 110 and this provides enough excitement for the twisties and highways that we travel. Thank you with all our hearts for your thoughtful message, your energy and efforts to provide wonderful content to entertain and educate us all!!

You’re 100% correct. Suspension is a better investment. My 117 is more than enough power. The people pushing power add ons make money selling upgrades. Proof many riders are followers not leaders.

I’ve been saying this for years. If anything, with a Harley engine I’m looking for torque over outright HP. Roll-on midrange is where it’s at for me, but it doesn’t help if you can’t get it to the ground or corner, brake or handle bumps. Great video, more guts need to see this.

I know this really does not apply, but i bought a new sportster sport 1200s in 1998. Prior, i had all dirt bikes, but i got married and the wife insisted. When the kids got older, I bought the HD to check it out and because I think it looks awesome. The bottom end blew me away, but the power dropping off so quickly and so low, to me, in the rev range got me started on the horsepower search. new pipes, K&N, Yost tube, searched for SE higher redline computer module, on the verge of getting cams when i realized two things: seeking the high end meant losing most of the bottom end punch and never really getting enough to make it worth it cost-wise, and two, the bike was extremely uncomfortable to ride. Should have left it stock. Still have it. Still less than 10k miles.

Evos and Twin Engines might need more power. M8tes and Revolution Engines not so much. People that think they need more Power on the newest Harley's listen to Sports Bike Riders that call Harley's slow. The new Harley's are plenty fast for moving lots of heavy steel. Harley's will never be an R1 or 600 Super Sport. Live with it. You are not bent over on your wrists, feet behind you, and uncomfortable!

so I'm torn. I totally agree that you can absolutely have too much power and I have a Low Rider ST and could absolutely have been happy power wise with it totally stock, but I put a cam in it because I wanted it to sound better and I love what it did to the performance. I'm working on putting in the miles on it to get to the point that I can fully utilize what it's got now but I'm itching to do a top end on it. I'm weird though, I'm not looking to do a 131 or a 143 or something crazy like that because I'm trying to chase numbers, I wanna do a low compression 128. Don't get me wrong it'll still bring it upwards of 145-155 hp, but I really just want the experience of doing it and getting it all dialed in and everything. I know what numbers to expect out of it but I'm not chasing the numbers and part of me acknowledges that I need to give myself a few more years on the bike to really get comfortable with it or like you said I'm not going to enjoy it with that much power.
