Bro I’m in Sacramento and we usually get like 110 in the summer… my boot sole glue literally un glued because the asphalt was so hot one summer. I was working as a security guard so I had to be on my feet and in the sun most f the shift.

Get a batteryless 3kw growatt offgrid inverter, add 6 second-hand 250W solar panels all in series, and a small portable 800W air conditioner that is maybe $200 will run for free all day during sunlight. If you think about it, nobody really needs the AC when the sun is not out, so use that to your advantage in the desert. Maybe consider putting a single 48V small battery onto the inverter for those intermittent cloudy days, if you don't want the AC starting and stopping whenever a cloud rolls by, and will also protect the AC compressor to last longer. Solar panels you can usually get for free, so your only main expense is the inverter (maybe $1000). Definitely worth it.

Desert life is great for growing hot garden crops like watermelons and cucumbers and corn and pumpkin. Everywhere else you only get 1 or 2 crop seasons each year. But you can do it all year round! Make sure you get some big water storage tanks for your drip irrigation though.

I open the windows at night and put a fan in each one. They are durectly across from each other. One pulling cold night air in the other drawing warm house air out. It drops the temperature in here by 10 to 15 degrees by morning. This gives me a head start with a cooler house so I don't have to use the ac until later if at all. I also went to dollar tree and bought the white styrofoam panels and silver reflective table clothes and made reflective window blocks. This has been a huge help on the west and south facing windows. I leave them loose so I can remove them to put the fans in when the temperatures drop then up go the windows. Its a bit of a pain placing them all in and out but so far I am using 1 window ac on medium the hottest part of the day and cooling just under a thousand square feet. Also I ceiling fans and box fans used to stir the air around.

Check out the Ecoflow alternator charger, looks promising.

Love the channel! This is what works for me in my semi truck that’s approximately 80 square ft. I have an EcoFlow delta 2 max with the wave2 ac with expansion battery and I use an inverter to recharge as I drive. When the wave 2 is plugged into the EcoFlow generator it’s more efficient and runs at 250 watts and EcoFlow just came out with an alternator charger that charges at 800 watts when driving but the cool thing is it will trickle charge your car battery or if you have a dead battery as long as you have power left in your generator it will charge battery so you can restart the car. I know you were saving room for solar on the room but I would’ve put a max fan over the bed on the roof. Great project

I'm the exact same with music, it often will take me back to certain periods of my life and the memories come flooding back in. Super cool build though! I've always theorized a camper with enough solar to run A/C continuously throughout the day and enough energy storage to run it at night. My minivan has a 100ah LFP battery and for $200 i'm legitimately impressed. What would really be exciting is if the small camping or mini A/C units became more affordable as I'd absolutely mess with that

I'd take the tail gate off because I'd be paranoid that some jerk would come along and close the tailgate while I'm in the camper and then I'd be stuck. 🤣

A tip I use in Oklahoma summers of triple digit temps is a type of bubble wrap I put in the windows. The bubble wrap is coated with a thin coat of aluminum and it not only reflects the heat, but it cooled my tiny apartment down by 10 degrees. I found it on amazon. I would put the window insulators in around 1pm or so to help with the heat of the day. **If you do have a swamp cooler or get some version of that technology, you can place a fan on the ground to move the cool air from one room to the other. I never knew it had to be a floor fan. A regular fan actually causes heat exhaustion faster if the temp is above 80 degrees I read.

Thanks for sharing this much, it's important to know you don't owe us anything, I was hoping you guys were still together, and it's been great watching you grow and learn all these years since the original Element. Totally respect that you guys have your own lives and come together when you can. Why not?

Awnings over windows are great for keeping cool ... especially old windows. You can basically keep them out of direct sunlight entirely.

Some interesting building designs would be to create a lowered floor, raised ceilings that focus to the center of the house and top opening windows. All these things would allow the cold air to sink and hot air to rise. If you do this to an extreme you might even create a large cold sink you and manage to freeze water but that's something that would require a large effort to create.

You had talked about student loans and job dissatisfaction was the reasons you went into element life. How much student loan debt did you come out of Tulane with and what do you still owe on those student loans? Just watching so many videos on these stupid student loans and now my kids are in the position of choosing whether to go to college or not because of the high cost. I would appreciate you sharing that info.

Going underground in the summer is an option. A 200 sq ft shack on top and a 200 sq ft water tight concrete basement underground. Older people can't take the heat however I would rather have dry heat than the sticky summers that they have in the south east. Nice little house bro !
