Hey Robbie, how did you finally find this video? KZbin changed the way they recommend videos in June shortly before I posted this and my views for it are only a small fraction of what I used to get. The views for all my other videos went down 50% from normal as well. I haven't posted a video since. I'm glad to hear from you!!

I use blender quite a bit & having been following tutorials on and off for years! and yet, this is by far the most comprehensive basics tutorial I've ever followed. Changing the dimensions to be mm & downsizing the grid is a game changer for 3d printing & something I didn't really know I could do! This video is full of little nuggets of wisdom like that (and I'm writing this as I'm only halfway through!). 10/10 would recommend to anyone learning blender! Thank you so much!

This is perfect for me, as someone who knows Blender reasonably well but is new to designing for 3D printing. I would use different actual keystrokes to get the same result, but the overview of the thought process was incredibly valuable to me. I just finished making my own box, let's see how it prints! (Well, my printer is pretty loud, so the printing will have to wait until tomorrow)

I used Illustrator for the my design to create, however I sent the PNG to the computer that connects to the WeCreat but I did just about everything that was shown in the video but unfortunately the names came out super blurry. Im just not to sure where I went wrong? If you have any advice it would be much appreciated!
@GreylightMay2 ай бұрын
Beta, you are happy with your png, it's crisp, right? What colors are in the png, is it all black? If this is for rotary on tumblers, it should be all black. Is it all pure black or shades of gray? You want all pure black. Then you select the black, call it fill engraving, which is what a png always is, and start with the default settings for your material, and test. Sometimes I adjust the power after I see the results. Is this what you are doing? It is hard to help much without seeing your design and your settings. It shouldn't be focus is an issue because autofocus is required. Are other things you're engraving turning out well? You will have to clean the tumbler well to see what results you are getting.

Hi Dawn. KZbin made some (unknown) changes to their algorithm around June that had a huge negative impact on all my daily stats, for every video, overnight. The first video, which was posted right after these changes, got such low numbers I haven't posted anything since. I question the wisdom of making content for a platform which can do anything they want, on a whim, with no explanation or warning. Honestly, I haven't decided yet what I will do other than continuing to answer questions here. So no, the next video I promised will not be coming soon, I'm sorry. Truly.

Ah, yes, I see your point. Somehow the swatches were compromised, perhaps while shooting footage, and I didn't even notice!! The top is 18px, the middle is 36 and the bottom is 54. I have a qustion for you , maybe you've come across this problem as well, I recently tried to print some minis for a D&D campaign Im apart of, I have a Creality LD002H resin printer, I was able to fit about 6 minis on the build plate at one time, they didnt overlap or go off the edge according to the program I use. When the print finished I noticed that none of the minis had been printed just the supports I had them on, this is before I replaced the FEP which need replacing anyways. Do you have any idea what could have caused it to fail? Since that print I have had no problems nor did I have problems before that but I went ahead and changed the film anyways because I noticed some cured resin was getting stuck to the film after each print I did which i wasnt sure why. Thank you!
@GreylightMay4 ай бұрын
Very mysterious! After you changed the FEP, did you do the same 6 minis you had tried earlier, and did they print successfully? Based on what you describe, I can't imagine why they failed, especially if the exact same print worked later.

Thank you for the instructions, I do have one question. When you measure the tumbler, where do you measure? The tumbler is somewhat conical, so do you measure the middle or thickest/thinnest part?
@GreylightMay5 ай бұрын
Excellent question, one I had myself and couldn't find a definitive answer to. What I did, and it seemed to work, is measure near the middle of where the design was going, and did my best to use the adjustable foot to make the surface level. The Vision then does it's own measurement before engraving and this gives it enough information to do a nice clean job.

My goal is to teach you everything you need to recreate my projects or to design your own unique version. I had very little 3d design experience when I made these, it's really mostly about drawing the 2d designs for the front and the dials, and I have dozens of videos about how to do that. Start with something easier, like a 3d token, and work your way up to the tracker. I promise you'll get incredible satisfaction from making something you designed yourself!

I jist ordered the WeCreat and i am super nervous afrer reading the lack of support if something goes wrong. This is a costly machine for no support.
@GreylightMay6 ай бұрын
I agree, so far support is the only negative I've found. It exists, but it's all online and it comes from China, so there is a built in time lag. I'm hoping this will improve soon, but I have no inside contacts, so I don't know what the company's plans are. The good news is it's a well made product, so the need for support should be less. There is also a sizable community of owners already, and there are a lot of talented and helpful people in the group, so short of needing to replace hardware, which only WeCreat can do, you can get advice and information from the user community. But your point remains a good one: for the price you've paid, you have a right to expect support!

You will have so much fun! The Vision is the easiest laser cutter I've ever used, and you will really enjoy it. To head off the only potential issue I've had, watch this video of mine kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6G1c2yljtmKm9Ufeature=shared at about 8:50 in. It is possible the air assist hose is rubbing back and forth along a sharp metal edge when the machine is in use. The video shows my simple solution, which is to wrap the edge with a piece of adhesive backed felt strip. This has worked well for me, and protects the hose from getting cut. Hopefully, WeCreat has addressed this, but just in case!!

Any reason to use LightBurn software rather than WeCreat software?
@GreylightMay6 ай бұрын
The current version of the software is so improved, I haven't used Lightburn, even though they improved its integration. I think 3d engraving was the only thing I wanted they still didn't have - and bidirectional, as I said in the other response.

Don't know what it is but I find it a real treat when someone actually pronounces speed in millimeters per second and power in percentage. Also, this machine is actually doing bidirectional raster engraving? Sure appears in several KZbin videos the beam is only on in one direction.
@GreylightMay6 ай бұрын
No, Lance, it is currently only one direction. I may have been misleading with my back and forth hand motion because I'm so used to using Lightburn bidirectional. I'm hoping WeCreat steps up to bidirectional, they are making lots of improvements, fast, and that is quite important for efficiency.

Finding it interesting how similar their software UI is to Cricut Design Space as if the same folks developed both. Also, wondering how well this can engrave and cut 1/16" leather for baseball cap embellishments?
@GreylightMay6 ай бұрын
I haven't done leather yet, Lance, but my experience so far would lead me to believe that this is a great leather machine. It should easily cut that thickness, and more cleanly than I get on my OmTech. I will have to put leather on my project list! The ventilation on my 80watt CO2 laser is so powerful it is difficult to keep the leather in place. I made special magnetic clamps for that, but they don't work on the knife bed in the Vision, so I'll have to come up with a different clamping strategy. I've found that anything that fits in the WeCreat bed, I prefer to do there. So much of what I do is small, the OmTech is getting lonely!
@edd777776 ай бұрын
One thing the manufacturer (and KZbin reviewers) do not mention is that this machine's auto-focus feature will not work properly on a curved surface. Your lased item must be flat, unless you're in the rotary setup.
@GreylightMay6 ай бұрын
edd, I haven't had this particular issue but I have provided my own feedback that they need to add a manual option. There have been a couple of situations where I really needed the ability to position the place where the focus laser hits. I can also think of instances in the past where I've adjusted the height based on the type and thickness of material. A curved surface is another good example. An advanced user needs more flexibility.
