Hydrogen is essentially just another battery. You have to use energy to separate H from O2. This energy is still largely generated by burning gob coal. Pretty much the equivalent of an EV. The only advantage is that it moves the smokestack from the back of cars to a remote area away from densely populated cities, so places like LA can be less smoggy and people suffer fewer respiratory illnesses. The reason to create EVs or hydrogen cars is to prepare for a future of truly clean energy - like fusion. Sadly, no politicians have picked up on this so it isn't getting any press.

Agree, Space Shuttle not withstanding, there is no real hope for hydrogen alone to substitute for fossil fuel energy. EV's are counter intuitive also. They run on electricity generated largely by fossil fuel and use that energy in an inefficient way. Wind and Solar energy can ONLY augment Fossil Fuel Powered energy generation. It will NEVER be even primary generation, it is undependable. CNG is the near future. Toyota can take their hydrogen ICE back.

Andrew Forest has already converted mining trucks, a train, and a ship to run on Hydrogen created by green energy. Hydrogen converted to Ammonia is the solution to storing solar and wind energy without batteries...

Hmmmm.... Hydrogen is what was in the Hindenburg zepplin when it caught fire and exploded. Look it up if you don't know about the Hindenburg disaster. Hydrogen is the most dangerous gas from the point of view of explosiveness. It is far more dangerous than propane and gasoline. Imagine having hydrogen powered vehicles on the road. Now imagine what could happen in an accident that caused a hydrogen leak.

Huh, didn’t know hydrogen isn’t a natural source. And as far as renewable and sustainable sources, is there really such a thing other than trees and crops, things that actually grow? Everything we make comes from the earth, like oil, iron ore, rock, gold, copper, coal and so on. And while all was created or came into existence when the earth formed. And not an expert, but I don’t think any of these replenish themselves, at least not in a time frame to be called sustainable. Diamonds are formed by coal or carbon under intense pressure for, idk a million years. Certainly not fast enough to have a constant supply. Even wind and solar aren’t renewable and sustainable. The wind may keep blowing and the sun will keep shining, but windmills and solar panels wear out and eventually there won’t be anymore materials to make new ones, or EV car batteries. Nuclear is the way to go, and when they get the fusion, I think it is, process figured out it will be revolutionary and pay in time pay for itself.

Coal has Hydrogen? Maybe in the generator casing to cool the rotor... Hydrogen could be a viable energy source, once we get fusion working, but that's still 30 years away... And always will be...

We used to classify hydrogen as an energy carrier, no different from an electricity cable, just a way to get energy from one place to another!

Our neighborhood was a victim of this nonsense. Because of wildfires the regulatory geniuses said all of our overhead electric distribution lines had to be replaced with insulated wires. The new insulted wires weighed 2-3 times what the old wires weighed. Of course they had to replace all of the power poles because the old couldn't handle the additional weight. The new poles can barely handle the additional weight. The new setup with the new poles and wires is an absolute mess. None of the poles are straight and the sag from the wires is massive. So in the regulator's quest to make the place safer from fires they made it more vulnerable while spending a billion Dollars to do it.

Same thing as these huge wind turbines. They use mega amounts of chemicals to produce, and then become a major pollutant to dispose of. Like a major pollutant!!!!!!

There is NO economic argument for this tech because the is NO adequate natural source of hydrogen. Complete waste of investment.
