While I do think you were a bit unfairly harsh on Joseph in some moments of the video, I do think this video does a great job at showing and expressing the main problems with Joseph Anderson's approach at reviewing and understanding video games and the problems with how he analyzes and assesses what happened to him or what's going on in the game and why. Nowhere near as bad as someone like UndertheMayo but still a tad problematic.

He won’t use any of the tools in the game to buff up his (I presume) strength build, AND he plays passive, so no wonder he got frustrated playing the game. He wanted to circle around a boss and R1 them to death… Elden Ring the way he wanted it would have been boooooring as fuck. It’s not Dark Souls anymore, I don’t want Dark Souls limitations in a new From game when I can have what Elden Ring brought. Wanting Dark Souls combat in 2022-23 is going backwards, it’s such a stupid idea.

The shinobi hunter clip is very interesting because I have also never seen that attack, but can immediately tell it only happens if you spam jump excessively, and even then despite complaining that it is unreactable he deflects it in the clip???

I really dislike the Great Rune system. I will run around without a Great Rune before I debase myself by hunting people down for Rune Arcs with invasions. It is not fun to contribute to the cancer called "the meta" for an item that i have to use over and over in a game where im explicitly expected to die countless times until i overcome a challenge.

A real conversation i had with a friend, who we platniumed every souls game before elden ring together, was this: Them: " man this is too hard. The enemies are too fast, too long of combos, and i can't seem to stagger anyone" Me: " well are you being agressive? The stance system means they regen their posture now if you dont keep hitting them. Are you using the cool ash of war attacks? Idk how you could be bored with some of those. What about using jumping attacks or rolling attacks to do damage during their combos so you can dodge & deal damage?" Them: " that isnt how the souls game played & fromsoft shouldnt have changed it. I won't use the new things because i didnt need them before" Me:" so you are playing a game, that isn't a souls game, but forcing yourself to play it as if it was a souls game?" Them:" i guess, yeah that is what i wanted." Me:" then go play a f-ing souls game idiot"

@themuffinprincesa21 its honestly how i first played too and its an easy trap to find yourself in without really asking yourself why do I play this way every single time. Took many playthroughs and thinking about the game to realize i was being rigid
@themuffinprincesa2111 күн бұрын
@loopine 100% agree it isn't easy to self reflect & notice the implicit bias. Especially given it's the same dev studio & people still call things by other games terms, such as runes being souls, grace being bonfire, estus, etc. The community around also likes to treat them similarly, a bit too similarly IMO. Which adds to the difficulty of having that mental adjustment

"Bosses don't have clear and consistent punish windows" Joseph Anderson is the TEXTBOOK definition of the word scrub. He can't adapt and beat the game so he just starts lying.
@EliteCPR14 күн бұрын
It's an objective fact though, unless you're deliberately misinterpreting his argument. He's specifically talking about how several bosses have attack patterns that can end at a certain point with a punish window, or continue going, and there's no way to know which is going to happen, so you just have to gamble. For one example off the top of my head, Crucible Knight, with its stomp-overhead-swing-swing pattern which can just end there or go right into two tail swipes.
@themuffinprincesa2113 күн бұрын
Except, you can. Also, you can parry everything that is a sword swing on the crucible knights as well. Meaning you create your own openings by knowing the game. For your example though, you jump the stomps to get in the extra hit. The tail swipe you roll into him & get a free rolling attack. Hat half hp or lower it is always a double tail swipe so dodge twice & punish. They also only tail swipe if you're dodging backwards or towards their non sword side. It's their ranged attack & AoE swipe. You can also always bait out the stab combo by running out & pausing. At half hp they will do the dive attack instead of this, which you can jump over or roll through, then get the punish when they land. There is also a ton of guides on their entire moveset & what combos pead from what attacks + positioning on the players end. Nothing is actually "random". Its about learning how your positioning opens up their AI combos & to learn it.

Look, I hate Malenia, I hate her second phase with passion, that being said, she's an amazing boss, and like, the game gives you tons of tools to beat her, summons, bombs, change stats, she can be learned with some patience, I've beaten her alone as a faith build and I'm not very good at the game so anyone can do it. Some of his complains are valid like Malekith's punish windows being tricky and unfair and Rikard's skull thing, not everyone is a professional no hit run, us normal people struggle with the bullshit attacks but they're not game breaking overall, he's just being dramatic
@themuffinprincesa2112 күн бұрын
Having something feeling tricky is fine, but to say unfair windows is just outright incorrect. People can & have consistently, beaten these games with only walking without being hit in a boss fight. You honestly think that's random? You think someone like GinoMachino getting the god run of beating demonsouls- elden ring back to back without being hit a single time was random? When talking about maliketh, the only way I can see someone think he has unfair windows is if you're only dodging backwards instead of through him to land on his side or behind him. He has enough of a windows that collosal weapons can get of a fully charged heavy attack. The slowest attacks available in the game.
