@BobbyTucker I would love to know when this truck will run. Due to the nature of both residing 20+ hours from the truck and unforseen things coming up when I do work on it, timelines are not always predictable. It is close though, I anticipate it will be running in September

That bed is much older than the truck the emblem that is missing is a twin i-beam emblem as well as You're 250 which goes up on the up on the cowling well, maybe not. The 4x4s may have been different than the two-wheel drives. My son has his 65 f250 two-wheel drive sitting in my garage with the engine out of it. He loves his 65 though he wanted one when he was 14. We bought it for him when he was 16 and it's still here and he is 33 years old now My son and his family leaving an apartment building and have no place to work on vehicles. That's why his truck is here at least for a couple more months
@reeseholler924 ай бұрын
@christinawiseman-gc9jh the best is most likely about 3 years older than the truck. This truck being a 4 wheel doesn't have the twin I beam suspension and instead says 250.

My md won’t run on diesel. It dies instantly when switched over. Runs fine on gas and the gauge on the diesel pump reads good pressure. Also when running on gas I can move the throttle any way I want and no white smoke at all. Thanks for and help. Seems to be not getting and diesel fuel

Can you perform work in gas mode? My gradnpa had one but i was too small to even think about it back then, now is something I've been wondering
@reeseholler925 ай бұрын
You cannot. There's enough power to drive it in a low gear if necessary but there's no throttle or really enough power to do any actual work. That and the gas tank is only a gallon and lasts about 15 minutes so it certainly isn't practical

Sweet truck! I have had my 59 for over 40 years. Still drive it every week and it will still throw mud. I'm not sure about the bed I've never heard that explanation before but could be. FYI on emergency brake, when you set it, don't just yank out on the lever you'll break the plastic T handle. Mash the pedal down as hard as you can and then pull the lever out to set it. Neat old truck I couldn't live without mine. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I managed to get a set of new old stock, pistons and sleeves for my 450 10 years ago. Is somebody making a new 450 pistons and sleeves? And you mentioned the priority, Valve I know exactly what you’re talking about Is there a reproductions of those are people rebuilding those usually bore gets scored up and the piston gets scored really bad. So what’s your source of parts?
@reeseholler928 ай бұрын
There are a few outfits making new sleeves and pistons. Takes a little searching but they're out there. Steel wheel ranch used to offer a rebuild service on the priority valves, I'm not sure if they still have their machine shop do them or not. That is the only place I know of that rebuilds them to new specs

It's closer to being a runner. New injectors and pump, but needs a couple new valve springs to replace broken ones and the top end is really nasty. Plan is this summer to pull heads and finish the top end and it should be a runner
@farmalmta9 ай бұрын
That exhaust leak is properly corrected by planing the exhaust manifold and head mating surfaces. Then apply a graphite grease to both surfaces and then assemble the manifold onto the head, torque to specs, run for 10 hours, then retorque to specs. Most engine rebuilders put gaskets on FE exhaust manifolds, which is incorrect and will cause them to quickly start to leak. Do it the way FoMoCo recommends in the shop manual and the leaks will be eliminated/prevented.
@reeseholler929 ай бұрын
I concur, and I ended up fixing the leak, but with a remflex gasket. I may only get a week max at home so it was a cheap short term fix that will hold up for awhile

Not sure why you are restoring a IH V8, generally worth more in scrap than as a engine. Worked on a lot of the things back in the day, extremely heavy and underpowered truck engine even if you lucked out and had a 392, not a 345, 304, or a 290. Valve float at about 3500 to 4000 RPM, not so good when the best you had was a 5 speed in a farm truck.
@reeseholler9210 ай бұрын
Short answer is because I can. 304 in a pickup is just fine for someone that wants some torque and doesn't care about having a high rev line
@jeffhill368110 ай бұрын
@@reeseholler92 if you have a good restoration project, fine, you want an original engine but driveability is low. Just realize that you will have to watch pulling out in traffic and top speed may be under highway speeds depending on gear ratio. Torque is OK but not enough RPM range for reasonable acceleration. Most of my experience was with 1900 and 2300 (?) series trucks but l Had a 71 1500 (392 4speed) pickup daily driver for a few years, from Colorado and it was a terminal rust bucket in the early 80's. Put the engine in a field truck for a neighbor, Drove the same in a big truck (5spd & 3 spd aux) as it did in the pickup, no difference, just plodding a long, same as every other international truck I worked on. Previously did a 293 Chevy 6cyl transplant in a Travelall for a customer, made a much better driver out of it.

@reeseholler9210 ай бұрын
Does the Pump have an A or an IH on the side? The A pumps have a scavenging valve which may stick and cause fuel to enter the reservoir. Otherwise the seals in the primary pump will need to be replaced. It is very common on these. If you cannot get the air out of the injectors after loosing the bleeding screw your plungers are stuck in the distribution block. Doesn't surprise me if its sat for awhile.
