My dads first tractor on the farm was a 450 IH diesel. Plowed with 4 -16 and pulled it nicely. We went through couple of cracked heads, but it was a solid tractor. Thanks for sharing brought back memories.

I always thought they were a bit cumbersome but very good machines in their own right. Just got to love it.

Thanks for caring about these gas start diesels. After the way stuff looked on that #2 MD I think you have more faith in getting it running than I would. That #2 looked like it was falling apart until you lifted the valve cover. These transmissions may be the rough spot to jump over.

Sounds good. I have a 450D in the shop, it needs new sleeves and head work. I always really liked running that tractor, it’s waiting it’s turn to be the next money pit. Lol!

Midwest Cylinder Head in Nevada Iowa has done all my head work. They've done 3 cracked heads for me so far, and have been the only ones I've found that know what they're doing with these and are a pleasure to do business with. Another shop said it was "crack free", but putting it in their furnace showed cracks.

I always liked the farmall gas start diesels but, I’m kind of afraid of them. Maybe I’ll find a MD someday. Your going to need a big shed soon for all of the tractors.

Once I learned how they operated and what to look for, I really like them. Good reliable work horses that are easy on the fuel

Another great video Does the tachometer hook to the generator Do you have a pulley and mount you would sale
@reeseholler929 ай бұрын
The tachometer runs off of an outlet located right below the distributor. I'm sure I have an extra pulley and bracket for the generator. I've converted most of mine to alternators as the armatures are usually toasted

@@reeseholler92 mine looks like it has a plate in that area where you say the tachometer cable goes So do you have a gearbox and a flat belt pulley for sale

I wish you'd have shown the fill starting procedure. The one video that does show it is so quiet you can't hear it.

I can do that when I get home from my deployment in 2 months. Theres been some informational videos I'd like to get made when I get to travel home, but my time always ends up running short.

@@reeseholler92 Looking forward to it. I borrowed a 450 diesel from the neighbor. That's a pretty sweet tractor. I may have to look for one myself. I don't know where you're deployed too but Godspeed. I was with the NDARNG for 22 years.

I managed to get a set of new old stock, pistons and sleeves for my 450 10 years ago. Is somebody making a new 450 pistons and sleeves? And you mentioned the priority, Valve I know exactly what you’re talking about Is there a reproductions of those are people rebuilding those usually bore gets scored up and the piston gets scored really bad. So what’s your source of parts?
@reeseholler927 ай бұрын
There are a few outfits making new sleeves and pistons. Takes a little searching but they're out there. Steel wheel ranch used to offer a rebuild service on the priority valves, I'm not sure if they still have their machine shop do them or not. That is the only place I know of that rebuilds them to new specs

I am restoring my dad's MD. Where can have the injecters and pump checked
@reeseholler924 жыл бұрын
Central fuel injection in Iowa seems to be the predominant outfit to work on these diesels. Any local diesel rebuild shop should be able to test the injectors. There really isn't a whole lot to go wrong in the pump besides the seals letting diesel into the sump or diesel into the crankcase. Outside of that, sometimes the plungers stick in the top end of the pump, but you can fix that yourself pretty easy

Sir, Get that foam out of the air cleaner...either replace air cleaner or find the screen!
@reeseholler923 жыл бұрын
I did, the foam was junk and I had no idea why it was in there. The screen was intact so I'm not sure what bright idea someone had to put there in the first place
