Hi there, just found your channel. Enjoying this video. May I ask where you purchased the rubber matting and silicone matts you have on the table?

Great Video 👌. You guys thought about running a fridge and 12v set up?
@wkndcrew
@wkndcrew 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delayed response! Thank you and yes I have thought about it A LOT. Here's a summary on why we don't have one... I'm a big fan of the basic Enerdrive 4WD Canopy system OR Bluetti / iTechworld / Nomad PDU portable power stations BUT once you factor in the cost of these units at around $2000+ AND then a 50L fridge at around $1800 you're looking at no change from almost $4000. Then add in solar panels, fridge slide so let's say $5000+. Which is fine if you can justify the cost because you use it for work or go camping regularly. BUT then I also consider the extra weight of a full fridge, so I must permanently install a fridge slide in the trailer, which also adds weight and takes up unnecessary room. Plus then prevents me from packing the trailer a certain way, due to the slide taking up valuable space. We're sitting at around 650kg unbraked (fully loaded) so we'd be close to the upper unbraked limit too if I included this set-up. AND then because these systems alone will only run a fridge for around 3 days (4 if you're lucky) you must add solar if you're off-grid for longer. And what if it's cloudy or raining most of that time?! THEN I also need to mount or stow solar panels somewhere, plus I need to maintain/store (temp sensitive) and 'prepare' this system before I go by charging it, along with all my other rechargeable items! NOW my last issue with this set-up is this > How much food can you actually fit in a 40 - 50L fridge for a family? 3-4 days worth? So how off-grid can you really go if you need to restock at day 4? If you do set up your solar panels remotely for more than a week, you might want to buy a larger 60L+ sized fridge (more $$$) OR use a vacuum sealer to increase room (more $$$) and supplement with canned, dry or freeze-dried food OR fish/hunt. This all makes sense cost-wise if that's how you intend to use it. But we're family campers and because of this research, as much as I love a 12 Volt camping fridge (and we've had one), I went back to the ease of a cooler. But not just any cooler - the Otterbox Venture 45, which boasts ice retention for 14 days!! BUT let's assume that's wildly optimistic, I'm confident that I'm going to at least get 7 days retention in warm weather. I can grab a spare bag of ice from even the most remote servo, it's easy to carry full, no maintenance, no extra weight to use more fuel, no fridge slide / solar panels / or sunshine required and even has an upper tray inside so don't have to fish through wet ice with bare hands. I can be off-grid for a week or more, in any conditions by supplementing my fresh food and it costs all of $400. On a side note lithium will greatly improve over the next couple of years, portable units will get smaller and offer power for longer. I will reconsider a fridge in the next year or so. Just sayin' ;)

That table that has 3 heights looks great, not too big and not too small. Can you remember where you bought it?

Thanks 🙏 for making your videos. I’m closely looking at a podtrailer to tow behind my Suzuki Jimny. As you may know it’s not a powerful car. You haven’t spoken about your experience actually towing the trailer. What car do you use? How does the trailer behave on road etc?
@wkndcrew
@wkndcrew 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Thanks for subscribing. You definitely can tow it with a Jimny and there are many who do. Our trailer comes in fully loaded at around 650kg! A trailer doesn’t even have to be braked until it reaches 750kg. We tow with a stock Nissan Navara STX so can’t even feel it. Our fuel consumption goes up just 2L per 100 on the Highway. I will be producing a lot more video content soon like a 2 year review, my thoughts on how the Pod stacks up against Cubs and Patriots and a ton more. Join the STOCKMAN POD TRAILER COMMUNITY Facebook page to see more and check out other Jimny owners’ set-ups too. Stay tuned :)

Hello - thank you for making these videos! I am a fellow All Roada/iKamper but have a question. I just have mine mounted on the lid bars but am considering getting the trailer chassis mounted system for my iKaamper and a 270 degree awning. Just a question, I have to park in an apartment car park with a max entry height of 2.1m - would your setup go under 2.1m? Thank you, Dion

Hi Katt, this just popped up on my YT feed and I thought of you. Hope renovating is going well? You may not see this but …. If you get back to camping, would you mount a RTT on the frame again, or down lower, on the bars? What other changes would you make if starting again? I’m still saving for a RTT and looking at best options.
@wkndcrew
@wkndcrew Жыл бұрын
Hey mate sorry for the delayed reply! I’d mount the RTT directly on the Stockman bars next time around. Don’t forget the lid upgrade to accommodate this. The main reason would be cost, weight and drag of the overhead chassis rack. And I think aesthetically it would look better not having it. But also height - climbing AND deploying the ladder is a bit of a pain in the arse. The morning dew makes the ladder slippery and getting bedding in and out is a bit annoying. Ok other changes; the awning. Absolutely love the Howling Moon but I prefer supporting Aussie and really impressed with Supapeg’s freestanding awning. Had a chat to their design engineer and knows his stuff. Maybe I’d get Cruisemaster or airbag suspension just because why not?! But I’d also get a smaller hard-shell RTT (2p) and a separate small ground tent. Reason? I missed being able to get changed standing up, a play space for Macsen AND somewhere to store the bags. And we have added a dog so that further complicates using an RTT. We used the back of the ute for gear/clothing bags and all slept up in the iKamper which sounds perfect in theory but the reality is not that easy. You’re constantly outside and if windy/raining or needing a quick change of clothes it’s annoying. Especially with a child. I’d add a Thule bike rack in front of the toolbox because it’s easier to get everything done at the same time in the factory in Melbourne. I’d also definitely get a Cruisemaster DO35 coupling for safer off-road manoeuvring. Other than that, I’d keep the kitchen, extra tap points, long draw bar, gas cylinder and jerry holders. I would definitely NOT get the water tank. Unless showering or off-roading remote, completely unnecessary $$$. We don’t even use a 20L jerry for 3 night’s washing up. A fridge slide and Engel would also be very nice next to the kitchen. I worked out that one of Stockman’s new ‘ute slides’ would actually fit perfectly length-wise in the pod. Again it’s easier to install all at once in the factory rather than retrofit. Hope that helps! 👍
