Hey, just found your video and the EOS R is still my go to camera and i would love to get a Eos R II... Dont like the R5 or R6, they are to big for me and the EOS R8 still lacks some functions. I am missing a mid prised 30Mp Camera and I would love to see IBIS... Lets see what the retro Camera will look like.... Since then, I will continue to use my EOS R.

Thanks Matt for posting. Just wondering, and not sure if you mentioned it, and didn’t see it on the camera, are you using a filter? Great to see the switch between the video and camera setting, seamless. Nice looking bike…

I enjoyed watching this and seeing the photos from this camera. It's been tough finding good videos on the D-Lux 8 in English, and this is definitely at the top for me! Thanks!!! Oh and the DJI Pocket 3 did a bang up job as well! Cannot wait to see more of your content on the D-Lux 8!

Really good advice. I'm a long time pro and I agree with everything you said. Especially about having a backup camera. I'd also recommend a backup flash if you shoot weddings or events, that require a run and gun style of shooting.

I was able to get mine about a week ago from my local Leica store that had just gotten them in the night before and they would have been gone the next day. I have the Leica Q2M and just wanted a fun Leica to shoot family and to have with me as I go out and about. You mentioned the wrist strap. It really is OK, but I replaced it with a Peak Design Wrist Strap that is much more secure and comfortable to me. I wanted to keep the straps minimal and not go for the neck strap. But this little jewel does take amazing images and using it gives you joy.

Love the photos and the video and I'm looking into buying the D-Lux 8. You may want to mirror-flip your video as everything is reversed for the viewer. Ex- Leica is spelled backwards and the dials are on the left in the video. Great shots, either way!

Malibu coast runs east to West take a look at the map it doesn't go north south so you can actually see only in the winter, sunrise and sunset

How can you have sunrise photos in Malibu (if I heard right) looking towards the ocean? Malibu is on the west coast & the sun rises in the east. The only “sunrise over the ocean” photos possible in North America would have to be on the East Coast.

Loved the video Matt, nice to see you back! I would love to see you talk about lens choice when it comes to studio photography. Do you use your Leica at all on smaller jobs at all or go out of your usual focal lenghts often (wide as 14mm for example)? I saw an EOS R5 (I think) on the table, so I imagine you just stick to Canon on studio shoots for convenience and higher volume shoots. Haven't kept up with photography in years now due to an unexpected career change but I'm glad you have! Keep up the good work!

--- I'm considering purchasing the 70-200 f/4 lens. I shoot at events, sometimes in conference rooms where it is darker. Do you think it will perform well in such conditions? I can boost the ISO and use a flash. This would be my second lens, the first being the 24-70 f/2.8. I work with the Canon R6 II.

Does the Canon R keep the separate configurations that we have established for video and photography ? So we don`t need to reset the settings each time we switch bettween the 2 shooting modes. This involves basically the settings for ISO, aperture and shutter speed.

Interested in picking this camera up. Currently use a 5DM4 and I love it, but wouldn’t mind something additional. I also shot a wedding with my 5D and an R5 and just really got a chance to see the difference in the DSLR v Mirrorless. It’s a totally different experience so I got me thinking about this camera since I don’t want to spend that much to get an R5

Not interested at all… was my first hands-on impression when the SL came out. Coming from decades of M-series it was just too large and heavy. Things change, and I bought a like-new used SL a few years ago at less than ½ the price of a used M10, and yes, still larger/heavier, but really great EVF for critical focus, a ‘modern’ camera in features, and design is beautiful and functional. It’s a great camera still. No reason for me to up-grade, it does everything I bought it for. The custom made sensor for the SL is still great. Works very well with my M-series and other vintage smaller (match well with the larger camera body) manual focus lenses. Maybe the best used digital Leica deal out there.

Hey Matt - will the Eos R work well with radio triggers for studio flash? I shoot with 5D3 & really like the look of this R in 2023 - most of my shooting is with Elinchrom Strobes & radio triggers.

I have two EOS R cameras, which I've had for several years. I love both of them. I shoot professionally; studio and location and shoot mostly models, gr. seniors, portraits, head shots, etc. And like you I don't shoot video. The eye focus is great, the colors are the best and the ergonomics make it easy to work with the camera. I shoot a lot with the EF 28-200 f/2.8, with the adapter, but I'm considering getting an RF 70-200 f/4.0 like you have. I think it would perform well for what I do. Great video, and I like your photos, nice model and lighting. Looks like natural light shots?

Man your images are stunning here. Makes me feel way better about buying mine earlier today. Obviously its the photographer not the lens...but none of the reviews I've watched have had these kind of top notch photos. I have the EF 2.8 IS II and debated getting this. My old 70-200 2.8 has some issues. I mainly use it for Landscapes and for Wedding Receptions. So I was worried the candid headshots I get would suffer...you've clearly shown me this can do Portraits amazingly. Thanks!

Wait until you try the Tamron G2 f/2.8 lenses! I love the prices when used, that the lenses can be calibrated with my PC and having the firmware updates with the docking station. I don't own prime lenses because of their wide view glass and I think the advantages of prime lenes have been diminished with these new lenes. Opps... I forgot to also mention the amazing image stabilization!!!

Yeah i came from a 5DMKIV. Loved that beast of a camera. But i wanted mirrorless. This is my first one as well! I’m still getting used to it but i LOVE being able to see what my image will look like before i take the shot! Huge advantage! Also i got my EOS body for just under $1000. A sigma 35 art for under $500.
