@@SailingPauHana It was gusting in the upper 20’s to low 30’s that day, and has been blowing fairly steady since. But no, nowhere near as strong winds as we had last winter on a few occasions. Just don’t know how well I trust the mooring compared to my own ground tackle. Yes, I had a survey done in June and immediately switched from Geico BoatUS to State Farm, with a policy that covers most of the Bahamas without requiring an additional rider.

So how do you pick up a mooring line as a solo sailor in an extremely crowded mooring field?
@svmagnolia
@svmagnolia 10 ай бұрын

How do you raise anchor when solo?
@svmagnolia
@svmagnolia 10 ай бұрын
Very carefully. If the wind is blowing I set the autopilot and engage engine in sloooow forward while bringing in chain from the bow, flaking it with a boat hook into the chain locker to keep it from backing up into the windlass. If calm, I leave the boat in neutral and allow the windlass to slowly pull the boat toward the anchor.

Hi Ryan. My radar setup consists of a new Simrad Halo20+ radar dome feeding into an older B&G Zeus 2 MFD. That MFD does not have built-in WIFI capability so I found a Navionics GoFree Wifi Adaptor on eBay and added that to the mix. Hi Michael, and thanks for watching! While I am not planning to go to Marathon this trip, I can tell you how I managed grocery runs to Publix or Winn Dixie while I was there. I have a folding Schwinn bike I locked up in one of the marina racks, and I ordered three folding baskets for it from Amazon- one in front and one on either side of the rear tire. That worked great for grocery runs! Gasoline for the outboard and generator involved loading the empty gas cans in the dinghy and running down to Burdine's to get them filled. Right now I am anchored off of the Marriott Resort in Stuart, FL. Today I dinghied in to the dinghy dock/boat ramp at Causeway Park, walked down to the Mobil station with one empty gas can, filled it and walked back to the dinghy. Then I walked the mile or so down to Publix and stocked up on lots of goodies there, then called an Uber for the trip back to the dinghy. It was less than $6 for the Uber, but I tipped the great driver $20, well worth it to me to get a dinghy load of groceries back without having to lug them all the way!

Rob, I think it's a judgement call. If the mooring is maintained by a reputable marina or municipality, you're probably safer on one during a big blow than at anchor.
