Is the front derailleur clamp removable? (Assume it’s not a band on style, but perhaps the clamp fixture can be removed with bolts?)

First off thanks for watching and commenting 🐵 I believe the clamp is removable and it is not a band style you are correct. I would check out your LBS or the Merida website for a more accurate and in depth answer 🙌 Feel free to check out my other videos and subscribe if you like 👍

I would only recommend gorilla tape if you are doing a mullet conversion of a non-tubeless ready rim. Reason being that that tape is very thick and it can prevent the tire from being able to move up onto the edge of the rim where it needs to be seated. People really seem to like the 3M 8896/8898 strapping tape as an alternative to the name-brand tubeless tapes. I would also recommend that you only try converting your other bikes using tubeless ready tires. It is possible to use a tubeless tire on a standard rim and make it work, but it's almost impossible to get a non-tubeless tire to seal on any rim - the bead just isn't designed for it.

Kudos for doing that climb on the gravel bike. It's tough. Have you tried it from the coast side? I find it even more of a challenge.
@ThatCyclingChimp6 күн бұрын
I did many years ago go from the coast side, the hill just after the house halfway up is extremely difficult! I use the gravel bike more now as there is not much difference in my speed to the road bike, more comfortable and the gearing ratio is not as punishing 🙊 Thanks for watching, appreciate the support and time you took to comment! I’ll need to try some of your routes out 🙌

Another great vid. Familiar roads, I’m up Mauchline way and often hit the coast down via Tarbolton and Monkton before looping up Irvine way or back through Doonfoot and up toward Drongan and Cumnock. How you find the bone conducting headphones? Big fan of the Sleaford Mods and Prodigy (saw latter in Glasgow Green in ‘97 after Fat of the Land was released!). Happy cycling!

I've been meaning to ask what pedals and shoes did you end up using on the 400?
@ThatCyclingChimp2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! For shoes I am using Fizik Terra Climba x2 SPD. So far these are the most comfortable shoes i have owned. The recessed cleat on the sole just works perfectly for cycling and walking off the bike. They are also “weatherproof”. For pedals on The Green Hornet I installed the Shimano PD-500s one side is clipless the other side is flat. I opted for these for flexibility but these were my first pedals that were on Shadowfax originally to teach me how to ride clipless.
@JasonInMelbourne2 ай бұрын
@@ThatCyclingChimp Yeah, I definitely prefer the SPD cleat so I can walk off the bike. I've got XT pedals on both the Silex and Synapse and even put a set of PD-M540 on my TT bike.

@@ThatCyclingChimp Not a bait mate when I was a kid pupils at junior school had to do a training course and then pass the " Cycling Proficiency Test " , I was a Bus Driver for 43 years before retirement and witnessed some horrendous riding standards by cyclists who totally ignored the Highway Code and the Rules of the Road . This only started to occur 15 - 20 years ago and on average I used to see at least half a dozen Cyclists going straight through Red Traffic Lights daily , and don't even start me on some of the crazily dangerous manouvers some of them used to do .....

Why Thank you for the compliment 🙊 I would slightly disagree with the “large amount of cyclists” just like drivers(myself included), which there are a high % of courteous it’s the minority that spoil it for all camps, it’s the same in the cycling community. My dad was a big cycle tourer in the late 50s early 60s. He and his pals used to ride all over Scotland, in all weathers, on steel 10 speed bikes, staying in in hostels and camping out (can you imagine the midgies?). They had great lingo. Dad always said "miles build stamina, but hills create character." Making tea was "drumming up." And running out of energy (bonking) was "getting the knock." I've got a few photos of dad and the blokes in their very early 20s, and you can tell how much they loved the cycling life. The technology has changed, but cycling is still brilliant.

Hello, what panniers work for this? Would be interested
@ThatCyclingChimp2 ай бұрын
For panniers you would be looking at the Aeroe Pannier system which is the same but the difference is the attachment that goes onto the rack. Then you can probably use any pannier with that. Word of caution tho… you can buy the pannier bracket separately but it is quite expensive therefore cheaper to buy the system if you have not already got it.
