I am late to the party but I'll comment anyway. The quality bikes your group rides indicate you have money. In fact more money than brains. Traveling those speeds on 2 lanes roads open to the general public shows wonton disregard for other drivers and their passengers including their children. The public is not aware of what a closure rate of a vehicle doing 100+ MPH looks like. This could include pulling onto the roadway from a driveway or side road, passing another vehicle, etc. You and your riding buddies are arrogant a$$holes taking risks with innocent peoples lives. Whatever happens to you in the future, I hope there is enough left of you to be prosecuted and someone takes pictures of the ego, arrogance and lack of decision making abilities as it's ground out of your flesh as it slides down the road. This is the opinion of a decades-long motorcycle rider.

Both brakes always. If the rear is not sufficient means you are riding fast. The front must complement the rear when you need an extra stopping power

I use my rear brake on my C650 scooter and F800 Sport Tourer, preparing for the many quick sharp turn in the Southern California canyons, in combination with the fronts; much more balanced behavior of both bikes as I lean into those corners.

Great long term review,and there are not too many around ! Can you please tell me if once you set the ride mode ie SPORT or change the settings within one of the 3 modes will it stay as set if you turn the bike off multiple times or would it return to a default setting at any point ? Looking forward to Monster delivery on Tuesday here in the UK. Just need some California sunshine !!! 🌞😅 Many thanks.

Once you set the bike in a given mode, it will stay there until you change it.

Just a point to add ; Many aggressively riding sport bike riders are in a way using quite a bit of rear brake however, it comes in the form of heavy engine braking forces.

I dunno, i agree using the rear on some bikes isnt always great due too brake setup. But the idea locking the rear is bad rather than the front? I never understand this logic. I can think of numerous situations the front can have you in trouble not using it correctly, i can only think of one with the rear. When the rear locks most of the time it follows the front. Locking the front you go down. Yes some pros dont use the rear, but the vast majority do. What it really comes down to is which wheel you fear locking up, and locking the front makes no sense ever in a corner. Locking the rear usually just results in a wobble. The end of the video sums it up well. Once we leave the security of pavement grip our friend is the rear. The rear is always your friend, and its a more forgiving friend when you mess up a bit 🤷‍♂️

This video only discusses using the rear brake, not the front. This isn’t a situation of choosing between locking up on tire or the other. You don’t ever want to lock up the front. That usually leads to disastrous results.

Can’t approve of crossing on a double yellow line. Especially on windy mountain roads. It’s unnecessary and dangerous. Too much showboating.

Very articulate and grown up review - I appreciated it a lot. I'm almost decided on buying the SP later this year or early next year when dealers drop the prices and when it's the peak of summer here in Australia. I'm watching all Monster/SP videos and yours ranks very high on my personal list. Well done!

my bike is configured to have lesser brake force in the rear primarily to prevent lockup... it's just right that it will slow down the bike a bit but not lock it up even if it's fully engaged... i generally engage the rear first before engaging the front for more stopping power if needed... not sure this is right, but that's how i learned to ride my bike...

Dude, What an excellent review of your Monster 937. I’m an old guy (69yo this month) and a lifelong motorcyclist. I’ve been a “twins” rider virtually the entire time. As one ages your needs in a motorcycle change. I’m not as strong as I once was, and I’m shrinking! I have been 5’-8” tall my whole life; last time I was measured I had lost 2”! WTF?!? For a short guy this is a harsh reality let me tell you. As a general rule older guys want/need lighter and lower motorcycles, ask any old guy that rides a “bagger” of any brand. Anyway, I’m searching for a new motorcycle, a bike lighter and lower than the bike I have now (a 2004 1st generation Ducati Multistrada 1000 DS that I bought new and have loved for 20 yrs.). Your evaluation of the 937 Monster confirms what I have surmised from careful review of the bike’s specs, various test rides, and my own speculation after 43 years riding Ducatis. The 937 Monster is a light, fast, torguey twin with excellent handling and fabulous brakes, just like you say. This is what I liked in my motorcycles throughout my 56 years riding; however now I need the “light and low” if I am going to continue riding. Thanks for the great review! My next motorcycle is going to be a Monster 937.

What about Forged Aluminum Wheels like OZ or Titax? They have wheel sets that fit the Monster Plus. I am considering buying. They are lighter than the factory cast wheels that come with the Monster.

What about sticking to the fuel tank? As a begginer it felt really good as far of wind gusts.
@renzocoppola4664

Also going faster since front drag and gyroscopic stability helps. Sticking to the tank would lower sidewind leverage and also make the motorcycle more stable. I noticed that wobbling is drastically reduced by sticking to the tank.

Thank you for the video. I had the misfortune of hitting a moose at around 80kmh (around 50mph). I flew over the handlebars in a very similar fashion as your friend, but just like him my gear saved me. Please use a full face helmet and wear good quality gear with knee, elbow, shoulder and back protectors. I need some time to get my bike fixed, but I will also get an airbag vest once I get back on the road. The gear we have these days is amazing and feeling hot is a small price to pay for walking away from a crash.

Awesome video. On my second ride on the roads at all (I had quite a lot of parking lot practice, but very little road experience), the weather channel said there would be storms the following day, but on the road this day, the wind patterns were already kicking up. What I was getting on the main 55 mph road were probably 40 to 55 mph gusts as crosswinds which I was too new to deal with, so I decided to reroute onto back roads. This had two effects, one the back roads cut in an around hills which cut some of them wind away, but also the back roads sometimes ran north to south and sometimes east to west on almost an entirely twisty set of roads. This meant that most of the time the prevailing winds were not acting as crosswinds, but either as headwinds or tailwinds which are much easier to deal with, though I will say the first time you get hit with a sudden major tailwind, it is very disconcerting. It's a little bit like being on a magic carpet ride.

If my riding companion kept pulling away from me, I wouldn't blame my bike, or myself... I would blame him for being an asshole & knowingly trying to push me beyond my ability! In fact, I may stop and wait for him to wonder what happened to me, and come back looking for me, and when He gets back, I'll tell him he's an asshole and I'm going Home!

Everyone is responsible for riding their own ride. When we ride casually with friends, we will ride sections at our own speed and then wait up from time to time so we all meet together. It’s ultimately every rider’s own responsibility to ride a safe ride. For our organized group rides, we do separate out faster riders from those who just want to have a chill day on a bike.

Regarding all upgrades cost (except exhaust ones), i feel like a monster sp isn’t that overpriced for your use? Right? I mean olhins setup, steering damper (sure its stock one and not the 500$ one but could be enought to correct the slight need). Sure it come with termi muffler that are useless on decat, but it could be sold to pay for decat and new muffler + flash. So it leaves only a tailtidy. Mirors. And grips. Thats fair.

The SP wasn’t available when I bought my Monster but yes if you’re an advanced rider who plans on pushing the bike in the twisties and on the track, the SP is worth the money. If you’re just out for to cruise, the SP won’t make a difference other than looks.

The new IMU ABS systems spparently mix the F/B brakes for you. At some point a motorcycle will have only one brake input like a car.
@tularosamoto
@tularosamoto 3 ай бұрын
Depends on the bike. I think we’ll see that more and more on touring bikes. Sport bikes will always have them separate because you want to be able to apply the brakes at different times. You might apply back brake only before the front brake or hit the front brake while getting on the throttle. Same with ADV bikes. Once you leave the pavement, you don’t want any front brake. Bikes are more specialized than cars so I don’t think linking the two will ever be universal.
