I just pulled home one of these trailers from the junkyard I paid $120 for it. Its a 8ft bed from a 1973-1979 ford f250. I just replaced the rims and tires and I'll be swapping a less rusted bed into it soon. I'm in Iowa so its pretty rusted out as it is currently. I'm hoping to get at least 10 years out of it once I replace the bed and get it all done. In total as of now I've got $300 into it so that's not bad for a utility trailer.
@RollingWithRuss4 күн бұрын
That’s a great deal indeed! I love those old trucks and it sounds like a fairly solid rig (minus a little rust). I am just about $500 into mine and am happy with what I’be got into it.
@iowafox22064 күн бұрын
@RollingWithRuss I'll be swapping the bed here soon and it will be alot more solid. I almost wish I found one as small as you've got. But I'm a Ford guy so this box kinda fits perfectly 😆

Yah my 24 has the same issues with carplay and so does my moms bronco. the lastest update for the truck seems to have made it better but it will still cut out audio and sometimes just crash. the only other problems I have had is my instrument cluster has just shut it self off going down the road twice. Making me restart the truck to fix it. The other thing is when you put the truck in gear and on the little screen is shows the 1-10 for a couple seconds that got stuck on the screen and it always showed I was in 1rst. The rest of the screen worked but that was stuck on it and it wouldn't go away with a quick restart of the truck. It needed to sit for like 5 minutes after shutting it down and then restarting to get it to be fixed. And the other nit picking thing I have is with the auto climate control with the remote start. I have the supplemental cabin heater and if the windows are fogged up I can start up the truck, turn on the defrost and before I leave my neighborhood the windows will be defrosted. For some reason the auto climate control with remote start turns the fan on the lowest setting and I don't think it even turns on the supplemental heater because I can leave it running for 15 minutes and the fog on the windows will not even be touched.
@RollingWithRuss8 күн бұрын
Those are frustrating issues. My dash lights have cut out on me once while I was driving a trailer down a canyon and that was a little disarming for sure… as for the cabin heater, that’s just plain frustrating that it does not seem to work well.
@blakew10268 күн бұрын
@ well the heater works but for some reason it doesn’t seem to turn itself on when I use the remote start. And yesterday for some reason my radiator fan was on high for the whole ride home when it was 40 out and coolant temps were 130. Thing hasn’t even kicked on high before when I was towing in 100 degree heat. I will see if it continues. Seems to either be a bad fan clutch or a ac sensor can go out and make the computer think that the ac system is super hot making the fan run at full speed since the clutch is fully electronically controlled. And the sensor thing I remember at least the 23 model year people complaining their ac when out and it was a sensor fault. It will be covered under warranty but I don’t want to deal with the service department.

Does the CP4 high pressure fuel pump failure potential concern you? If not please explain. Thank you.
@RollingWithRuss10 күн бұрын
It does but I will probably trade the truck for a gasser before the warranty is out.
@21psd9 күн бұрын
I think the CP4 failures are actually not as common as the internet will make us believe. The diesel techs at my local dealerships don't see this come in very often. But when they fail, it's a major repair at a cost of ~$10-12K. The biggest contributors are fuel contamination, prolonged filter changes, and by allowing air to enter the CP4 by not completely purging air from the fuel system after filter changes or draining of the fuel-water separator. I refuel only at reputable diesel stations and use a diesel additive (HotShots EDT) at each fill-up, change fuel filters every 10K miles (every other oil change), and perform a minimum of 8-10 ignition key cycles anytime air has entered the fuel system.
@chrisphillips57208 күн бұрын
@jimm2442 also look into getting S&S fuel disaster prevention kit . It adds a return filter in the system. So if the cp4 does goes it only takes out the pump.

I know it can. I have seen them hauling 8k pounds at the dump but it will be ear out faster than a bigger truck. It can definitely do it, maybe not legally though. I get 14-15mpg on the computer on my 24 f250. It is a crew cab long bed with 3.31 gears and stock highway tires. I can get 25-26mpg on highways and only 22-24mpg on the interstate granted that was with going through a lot of construction zones of speeding up and slowing down. (also got stuck behind a car going 50-55 for like 10 miles so that didn't help) Towing I can get 14-18mpg depending on hills granted that is only like 8k ish. Also, I got that archoil stuff and for sure on the towing, I lost 2mpg with it so I would be curious to see what you get.

@original72canuckАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing! With my unladen 2020 F350 with 3.55 gears and stock 20” wheels I get nearly identical mileage at 22-23mpg driving 70-75mph on the interstate fuel stop to fuel stop. It drops to 20-21mpg on shorter trips and including 10-15% in town driving. That will then degrade to 18.5 to 19.5mpg over the course of one fuel tank or about 600miles including one DPF regeneration.
@RollingWithRussАй бұрын
Yea these 10 speeds really help with efficiency. Time will tell if they hold up but I think if you don’t floor it everywhere and take care of them they will last.
