That is not hand breeding. That is tying up your Mare and having a stallion nearly get caught on a gate so he can make with her. I would consider that somewhat cruel and you guys need a lesson in handling.

I refer to Indian gentling. Just after that foal bonds with the mare all hands must be placed on that colt/filly. Touching and rubbing as often as necessary to aclimate the colt with humans. The halter should be place early on to avoid later difficulties. Breaking a horse is counterproductive, partnering up and becoming friends with a young colt is the objective. Sadly, we placed a mare in a stall too small for foaling and after birth the mare could not tend to the colt and we lost a beautiful filly. I will never forget the devasted look on that mares face thinking she failed.
@LazyKMOverBarHorsemanshipАй бұрын
@@owenparkerjr.6588 Consistent handling is time consuming, but so worth it in the end. I agree that it is the way to go for trusting, confident horses. I’m sorry to hear for your and your mare’s loss. That is a hard situation to have handed to you. Breeding and raising horses is just as heartbreaking as it is rewarding.
@owenparkerjr.6588Ай бұрын
@@LazyKMOverBarHorsemanship I buried that filly. We should have just left the mare in the paddock. That mistake was never repeated. Your videos are productive. I am puzzled why there was no attempt to gain trust first. The method used here might give quicker results, but not necessarily good ones. Highly stressful, especially with her foal calling for her. Not good lesson for the foal to learn, either.
@loredelore7286Ай бұрын
@@RebelStarbird exactly, what she will get is a horse that will have never ending issues with people. Anyone can put a horse in a round pen and chase it until it gives up, it doesn't take any talent, just bullying. The fact that the mare has a dependent foal just makes it more abhorrent. The insensitivity and ignorance is real here.

As I watch your leg cues, I see that the leg opposite of the cue leg is brought away from the horse. (I hope that I worded that correctly). I do the same thing when training a horse. For me, doing that helps the horse understand what you are asking. Bringing one leg away from the horse tells the horse that it's alright to move away the pressures. Using your legs to cue the back is my preferred method. Thanks for sharing your videos.
@LazyKMOverBarHorsemanshipАй бұрын
@@thomasosburn833 Yes, I bring the leg I’m cueing with to the horses side and move the opposite leg away slightly. It sure seems to clear up what I’m asking on a colt! Using your legs to be able to ask a horse to back is so handy; I use it all the time. Thanks again for the comment!
