I have been flying RC helis for a long time wondering if this was normally viable? I just watched your video and got excited, absolutely great video. I have the gen 4 Puma as well as a DX8 and would like to try following your method, but do you have another video of the Gen 4 conversion you mentioned regarding swapping sides of the collective to reverse throw? Take into consideration, I am not a true electronics wizard, but given the specifics, I can accomplish the task. Thank you😁
@lwright2922 күн бұрын
@@richardgibson2055 Sorry, no video of the original conversion. I did have to physically switch the rotation of the collective potentiometer to make it work. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the factory counterbalance spring to work in that configuration. I ended up using an extension for the collective and a physical weight along with calibrated friction to make the collective work properly.

My uncle flew these in Vietnam as a Medevac Pilot. The stories he could tell... It's definitely one of his favorite subjects to talk about and clearly meant a lot to him, so I'm sure he'd be absolutely tickled to fly something like this! I had the good fortune to fly with him in one myself before he retired from the air for good. He clearly still had the skill and memories of those days.

@lwright292 but how does It comunicate with the dji o3 for the arm command? I know you can disable the low Power mode in the menu but It's know that It doesn't unlock the full power
@lwright292Ай бұрын
In this application the two are completely separate systems. This is the original air unit and is set to high output at power up using an independent 4s lipo. In the case of the O3 air unit I power it the same way but have to switch it just before takeoff to prevent overheating.

That is just WILD!! LOL, I'm only now discovering that you guys have figured out a way to do this! An RC pilot who posted a video where he flew his RC jet was good enough to give me this link when I mentioned that the FPV rig in a helicopter would be cool to see. He mentioned that you also fly the full-size, real-world choppers and by the way you handled this helicopter, I have no problem believing it! I'd like to ask an experienced RC helicopter pilot who has never flown a real helicopter, if they found it easier to fly the RC from inside the cockpit. I'm a long-time flight-sim hobbyist and I was an RC builder/flyer from about 1980 to 1990. I don't have a pilot's license but my dad did and he'd occasionally let me fly his Moonie, (when I was much younger and after T/O only). Based on that and the RC experience I've had, I found it easier to fly from inside the plane. Therefore, I sense that an RC helicopter pilot that doesn't have any real-world flight time, would probably find it easier to fly the chopper from inside as well. It's hard to say if it would be a fair question to ask of an experienced helicopter pilot like yourself because you're obviously proficient at flying both so you likely don't find either way any more difficult than the other, (if that makes sense). Anyway, I'm sure that it won't be long before you FPV pilots manage to get some working instruments to display in the system, which would help with testing yourself in flight-instrument related conditions, (at night or in weather, etc.). Great video! I bet the time won't be long before someone applies this FPV RC technique to land on an RC aircraft carrier!! I think they'll probably need to have some instruments displayed in order to make it happen, though. Thanks again for the great Demo! Rich PS I've always had a preference for helicopters and tended to acclimate to the controls and general feel easily in a flight-sim. Then, on a visit near Lake Powell, a private helicopter pilot let me take the controls in a flight from Page, AZ to Bullfrog Marina in Utah, (again, only after Take Off)
